Siegel at the Tea Lounge (posted by a partisan/newbie)

I'm a proud resident of Prospect Heights, though "some of my best friends live in Park Slope." I got heavily involved in DDDb, and woke up 3 weeks ago to find myself the Brooklyn field coordinator in the campaign to elect Norman Siegel Public Advocate.

I've arranged an informal get together with Norman Siegel at the Tea Lounge on Union near 7th Ave., and I'd like to let everyone know. It will take place Friday the 10th from 6:30 to 7:00.

I know everyone is probably sick of meeting all these candidates, but the Public Advocate race is really important and has not been getting very much coverage. The Public Advocate is technically the second most important elected job in New York, and if the mayor dies, the Public Advocate takes over.

We have a vested interested in getting Norman Siegel elected. Besides his decades of tireless work (for real) for civil rights, he is also the lawyer for Develop Don't Destroy in their eminent domain case against Ratnerville. If he wins, we'll have City resources working for us, for once. I could go on and on and on about why I think he's the right person for the job, but we can save that for later.

Not for nothing, but considering that the majority of your posts here are simply to promote Norman Siegel... This doesn't rub anything the right way and doesn't look good for the Siegel campaign.

Okay, I'm not sorry. I care about what goes on in these elections because it has a direct effect on my life and my neighborhood. And I was pretty clear about representing who I am and what I'm about- did you read the title from a "partisan/newbie?" There are a ton of other issues I'm passionate about, so I guess that's the problem you're going to have with a public forum.

But thanks for making me feel welcome.

That's quite condescending to say the least. What's great about this place is that there are dozens of community focused posts. Some large. Some small. All focused around the neighborhood.

I'm not the owner or an admin of the site, but when you arrive on a BBS and only post on one self-serving topic it doesn't look good.

And yes, you wrote that you're a 'partisan/newbie', but I only commented after you announced the cancellation of the Tea Lounge talk. At that point, it just was a bit much.

I'm no political expert, but I don't think insulting other discussions and acting like your panties are in a bunch at a valid critcism is any way to win votes or comrades in political arms.

There are a ton of other issues I'm passionate about, so I guess that's the problem you're going to have with a public forum.

Sorry, but your talk is not matching your walk. Virtually all of the posts you've made are simply transparent campaigning for Norman Siegel and not much else. It doesn't show community concern as much as a focused concern to campaign, campaign, campaign.

If you care about anything beyond campaigning for one candiate, please pipe up. But otherwise, constantly posting about Norman Siegel can backfire and actually make people avoid listening to what your candidate wants to say or do. And I commented only after the cancelled Tea Lounge appearance because at that point, it seemed like quite enough. This is all my humble opinion, but c'mon.

Ya know, I really don't understand this blogger etiquette. I am fiercely fighting in a campaign to save my neighborhood, especially the groups of friends I have on my block and my greatest investment, which is my apartment. The form of this battle at this moment is an electoral campaign.

I'm didn't realize that posting the cancellation of an event was too much. I was trying to be considerate to the people who might want to come. But I did get snooty in response, and I'm sorry for that.

The problem about introducing myself more fully is that it also involves self-promotion. I am a bandleader, composer, cellist and I cofounded a music label called Jumbie Records. My next gig was supposed to be with my Hungarian folk group in New Orleans and in the Hungarian community near there, but obviously that was cancelled. I'm also an active member of Develop Don't Destroy, and I think our country is quickly going down the tube unless we as individuals take back the direction of what's going on.

Jack, raulism PMed both me and DaveB before posting anything to ask if it was okay to post info about his work with Siegel and we both replied with some variation of "as long as you're nice and don't attempt to conceal your connection with him, sure." He has followed that advice to a T, so if you object to his postings, blame me and Dave.
