dog friendly establishments?

after having to miss the happy hour last night in order to stay home with my puppy, it occurred to me to ask if people know of dog friendly bars and the like in the hood. i'm thinking of something closer than the gate (at 5th ave and 3rd st) which, though lovely, is sometimes a little farther than i want to walk.

  • i think freddy's use to let pups in...but the damn city has really cracked down. unfortunately it is against health codes to have a dog in a bar/ restaurant. i know there are dozens of places a few years ago that let dogs in. great lakes and buttermilk for two. but there was a dog biting incident and well, no more pups. i suppose if you mix drunk idiots with innocent pups someone's bound to get hurt and usually its the dog who gets the boot. it sucks.
  • i suspected as much. we have had great luck in the past (last summer, the people at biscuit actually let us bring her in while we ate a meal), but people seem to be much more strict about it these days. which is too bad, since there's nothing better than enjoying a few beers in the company of a sleeping pup.
  • Subject: pups in PH

my dog just turned one. I have the same issue with finding places to go with my dog. I used to see dogs in O'connors but when I brought lola in they told me i had to hide her and that they can't allow dogs anymore.

Beast bar (on vanderbilt) has some sidewalk seating...the bartender there told me that dogs would be allowed out there, and that she was even going to bake dog treats in the shape of cat heads!

I wish that places like soda or half would let dogs into the back yard...

any other places people can suggest?
  • hold on on minute. cat heads? i'm calling PETA.
  • an update: i was at buttermilk on saturday night when a huge weimereiner came in with its owner. not prospect heights, and certainly not closer than the gate, but good to know all the same. perhaps they've relaxed their rules?
  • Nothing in Prospect Heights. Dog-friendly bars in Brooklyn can be found at:
