PH is all about some meat and meat products. It's the vibe.
  • Subject: raw/vegan/organic spot closed?

There *was* a raw/vegan/organic place on vanderbilt. I'm not sure when it closed or why. do others? cat.
  • search "vegan" in this forum. Also there are a few vegan regulars here who should be able to offer some advice.
  • Plus, Isa may be opening one here soon if she can be convinced that it would be better here than on the slope.

maybe the nut milk was no good?
  • Hey Vanilla - I'm vegan too and it's a pain in the ass to eat out here but some things I've found:
2 vegan entrees at the Islands, and both of them rock
    Imhotep on Nostrand Ave
Cheeseless pizza at Amorina or whatever that is called
Grilled veggies and some other things a Beast
New Prospect on Flatbush will make you most of their entrees with tofu instead of meat and they are really friendly about it, just ask. I get jerk tofu all the time.
They say the pierogis at soda are vegan but who knows.
Grilled Veggie plate at Tavern on Dean

The place that closed was a raw place that is why it closed. It was a little nasty and the service was bad. Friendly but bad.
  • isa,

i know SO many vegans in PH, if you open the vegan eats place here... so much business!

    v.

p.s. thanks for the info, now modivated to search out that jerk tofu instead of trekking to park slope.
  • I would love to open a place here, the problem has been realtors asking for ridiculous amounts of money for small spaces that would insure I couldn't make rent. I'm still looking though.

Have you looked at all on Underhill?
  • Subject: the islands?

    what is the islands? thanks.
  • Isa - what about Vanderbilt - there are so many vacant store fronts or is it really expensive there also?

I think Vanderbilt has become hot real estate, although I bet the former Angel's Fish storefront would be worth checking out. What about the spot on Underhill where the tattoo parlor used to be (between Sterling and St. Johns)? That's got to be cheap, and it dfinitely has potential as a location.

The Islands is a tiny but fabulous Carribbean restaurant on Washington Avenue just north of Eastern Parkway (next to Key Food). Check it out!

I've called them a million times with no reply.

Vanderbilt rent is out of control, I would love a place there.

that's why you should come to washington ave! washington needs something new other than one more beauty supply store... or the religious candle "stores".
