ProHo
I've lived near the ever shifting line between Prospect Heights and Crown Heights for most of my life. And I can tell you right now, that no self-respecting individual from my community has ever called this area, that we have always called home, by the obnoxious acronym "ProHo".
Instead, I suggest we return to a name that has been bandied about for years here by us (real) residents of the Heights communities.... "Pro-Hi". This of course means that we are from Prospect Heights, and also it means that we are in support of people saying hello to each other.
If you thought it was meant as some kind of sophomoric play on words about drug use... for shame. It has nothing to do with that.
And please, tell me why it is that we have decided to mimic the lazy shortening of words that so thrills the Manhattanites? SoHo, NoHo, NoLita, LowLita, TriBeCa, UWS, UES, LES... etc. etc. etc. (Don't bother to point out to me that "etc." is an abbreviation, I am already aware of the irony.)
Do we want to follow in the footsteps of the debauched and braindead hipsters in DUMBO? Is that where we want this community to go? Where are our values? Where are our aesthetic leaders of good taste? I know I am not alone in these musings.... so please, stop with the Pro-Ho, and from now on when you meet people and they ask you where you live, extend your hand, smile wide, and say proudly, "I'm Pro-Hi."

Actually, ProHo is a running joke we have on this site, for just the reasons (SoHo, NoLiTa, etc.) that you name above. None of us calls it that anywhere other than here, that I'm aware of.
Edit: Here's another thread about it. -
ProHo is JUST A JOKE. Please don't forget to bring your sense of humor when you join our neighborhood.
-
ProHo is at least a bit organic in nature.
Try dealing with the fact that some people think I live in BoCoCa.
Can't wait until Bensonhurst get's to be trendy. Then it will be known as BenHur!!! -

If a nearby neighborhood that is neither Bay Ridge or Bensonhurst needs a nickname, I have dibs on this one...
"Benny Hill"
Now that's a spicy meatball! -

I believe I invented the name ProHo about 15 years ago and I respect myself so there goes your theory. -

Sorry, this post got deleted... I think it was from an anonymous poster. REPOST:

I would just like to point out that I know the originator of this thread quite well. His claim that "I've lived near the ever shifting line between Prospect Heights and Crown Heights for most of my life" is false. He spent the first 25 years of his life in Virginia and was born in New Jersey, also the state where he buys his furniture. I propose that this imposter be banned from the site for life.
Sincerely,
Concerned
