Joy Indian restaurant - Go!
I have to say in terms of customer service and food, this place rocks. Not like that restaurant on 7th (is it called Amir? I've tried to block it out-when I first went there the whole place smelled like a wet dog and we waited forever for our food)
Ate at Joy (it's on flatbush near prospect pl) last night, and not only was the service and food good, they gave us an xtra dessert, and I got a rice refill on my to-go plate.
If you like Indian-give them some support. We need to keep them!

Joy kicks butt for this neighborhood.
Keep them? Are they leaving? -
Subject: No Joy is staying, but other Indian places have left
There was kind of a nice one on 7th that closed awhile back, and it was replaced by the wet-dog smelling one. I worry about places on Flatbush (it seems businesses close there a lot) and I just dont want them to go! -

I have had their lunch special and it is not bad. But everytime I went there, I was the only customer in the restaurant. How are they able to meet their overhead? I wonder. -

Same here. Maybe they do a lot of delivery. -
I will continue to support them because it is important to have business stability in Prospect Heights. Too often we have seen businesses having to close because they don't get the support of residents of the area. Case in point: City Lighting, the antique store on Flatbush Avenue, and others that are on the edge such as Chocolate Monkey, Curves, Kombit restaurant, etc.

I went to Joy twice last winter and EACH time I went there was heat, but it was so low it was as if there was NO HEAT (I thought the first time it was probably a fluke or a building problem, so I went back).
Both times, however, I had to wear my coat and scarf and hat during my entire meal (I'd have worn my gloves, but that made handling utensils a little unwieldy, obviously). The best they would do was to give me a space heater next to my table, which barely helped at all. And they really didn't seem to care one iota that I was shivering at my table. I vowed to NEVER go back, which I have not and I probably never will. -
Oh! I LOVE Joy, but we have never been there, only ordered. I think they do a lot of delivery. Mmmm...Dildar Curry....

Me three! LOVE JOY! And only ever had take-out.
-
Me four!!!! Joy is great. I have eaten there once or twice and ordered numerous times. LOVE IT!

How does JOY compare to AMIN?

Definitely try Joy- it's great. I haven't tried Amin yet, though. Where is it?
there we are...thread back on track

Amin is on 7th Ave btwn Union and Berkley. There is also another one further down on 7th. I've only eaten there once, I didn't really care for it. The Nan was more like a grilled tortilla than proper nan. The rest of the food was just okay - on par with the places on E.6th St in the Village.
-
Had takeout from Amin once, soon after they opened. It was not enough to pull me away from JOY. I remember it as vaguely disappointing food.
Also clever picky Indian food eaters of my acquintance have validated this choice by also going to Joy. This guy goes to India, so . . . -
What about that Indian Restuarant on Vanderbilt @ Prospect? It seems like it's always empty, I don;t know how much longer they can stay open. I went there when it first opened and thought that Joy on Flatbush was so much better. I was so excited that there would be a Indian restaurant so closeby but it seems they just don't get it. I'd like to stop in and tell them to perhaps go to Jackson Diner and taste their food, I feel sorry for them but not sorry enough to waste money on mediocre food.

i like joy, but the last time i ordered delivery there it took TWO HOURS (no exaggeration). by the time our food arrived we were emaciated and gaunt (ok, that's an exaggeration).
but seriously, i am a bit gun-shy about getting delivery from then again. -
Joy has great tandoori and the endorsement of Marty Markowitz. What else could you want?
What a Joy to Pose (and Eat) with Marty

I have to pimp this bit of snark:
TRADE SECRETS: "Traditional Indian Salad" at India Place on Vanderbilt Ave.

ana.log, I think/hope that this is just an aberration. My delivery experiences with them have been consistently good.
I totally understand your reluctance to try again, but I think it's worth another shot.ana.log wrote: i like joy, but the last time i ordered delivery there it took TWO HOURS (no exaggeration). by the time our food arrived we were emaciated and gaunt (ok, that's an exaggeration).

same here, that place is one of the biggest disappointments EVER in restaurant history -
I have been to Joy a number of times for lunch and have always left wanting to go back asap. Great food and very friendly staff. VERY kid friendly!
-
i love Joy! they are nice in there too.. because they want you to come back. the free little deserts are always nice. and the food is good and cheap. the other places on 7th, ive never been to because they are a bit more money, and now im glad i havnt bothered since the consensus seems to be that Joy is better! i don't think they deliver to me though, im down too far near empire blvd
