    I would say that the most rude people are in that subset of "people with babies" who simply cannot imagine that other people may not think their out-of-control kid(s) is(are) the most charming, clever and adorable baby(ies) on the planet.

    Laptoppers and considerate people with babies are generally quiet and mind their own business. I have no problem with either of those two groups. In fact, I will even engage in conversation or babytalk with a cute baby or nice little kid ... :shock:

    I'm going with the people with babies. Get a baby sitter already! Not everyone wants to hear a wailing baby while their eating no matter how cute it is. It's one thing if it's at diner but bringing a baby to a dinner restaurant is not right. If you can afford to lay out $30+ for a meal you can afford a baby sitter. And if you can't, well then there are some sacrifices you should make.

    Ok. So basically it isn't the coputers or the babies we dislike, but the rude poeple that bring them to places. Rude people, in general, tend to cramp my style. But I won't them get me down.

    That said, I don't even have a laptop. OR a baby.

    a woman had a screaming, squirming, furious toddler 0n her lap. to appease the toddler, she pulled out a WHISTLE. she blew the WHISTLE. and gave it to the toddler, who took the WHISTLE AND BEGAN ALTERNATELY SCREAMING AND BLOWING ON THE FUCKING WHISTLE. oh sweet jesus. we jumped off the tube at the next stop. and for the next hour ranted endlessly about what kind of moron gives any kid/a screaming kid a whistle as a toy.

    I'd be pissed off if someone glowered at me and hogged a whole table whether they had a laptop or not. As for how much time they spend there, if it doesn't bother the management, I don't see why it should bother you.
    Good point. I guess it all boils down to basic etiquette and politeness.

    Ga! Judgement overload. :oops: Let's hear some counterpoint to all this finger pointing. Anyone with babies or kids out there? Pro-laptop coffee hounds?

    Enjoyed that story about the coffee place shutting down wifi on the weekends. Anybody seen other places do something similar? I know Starbucks used to furnish a lot of their spots with purple armchairs and couches - but, as of two years ago (or so), the company began pulling them out. I think they've removed them all at this point, but I don't visit more than one or two Starbucks in NY, so I wouldn't know.

    Judging by how many coffee shops we have in Brooklyn, laptops and babies aren't cutting into their profit margins much.

    Well, the problem is the spontaneity of computer/Internet use makes for people forgoing basic etiquette for easy reflexes. Thus the fact that the term 'zombie' is always connected to excessive iPod/cell-phone/laptop use.
