  • i am not outraged by spitzer's engagement with a sex worker. i am more disappointed that he was incapable of achieving his reform goals before the taint of vice derailed his governorship. he was a failed governor to this point. his political style didn't help. perhaps paterson will be better.
  • Totally disagree prostitution is victimless in most cases. Someone most always gets hurt, in this case Spitzers wife and 3 girls. This "Kristen" is a troubled young woman as well.
spitzers wife and three girls would be hurt if he slept with anyone other than his wife. that has nothing to do with prostitution. do you know kristen?

true. but prostitution is victimless in most cases. and the war on drugs and the war on vice are both dumb because they will both be around forever, no matter what.

And what about all those poor saps who worked for Shitzer? They worked for him believing he was Mr. Morals putting prostitution organizers behind bars. Now all the people who worked for Spitz are screwed, cleaning up their desks. I'd love to ask the former Governor if it was worth it. How long does an orgasm last anyways? Spitzer himself is more likely to relive the memory of getting busted than getting off.

actually, aren't they all working for patterson now? I heard on the news this AM that he was going to hang on to the spitzer staff. (lol - totally unintentional)
  • Having had some experience in Albany, I'd hazard a guess that 95% of the current executive chamber staff is safe from any immediate job loss. The exception are the 3-4 folks who serve as the closest advisors to the governor (chief of staff, counsel, head of state authorities and press). Those folks will probably see at least some turnover in the next 90 days.

As long as the folks at the commissioner level haven't done anything to piss off Patterson they'll probably remain. After all they are loyal dems who have gotten their jobs as a result or they are the folks determined to be among the best and the brightest in their fields. The governor needs them to make him look good and to educate him on those areas he may have been excluded from as Lt. Gov.

For everyone else, Monday is just another workday. Nothing changes on day one.

  • Subject: We Owe Spitzer

Us New Yorkers should all thank Spitzer for keeping us awake during the daylight savings transition; those of us who had to wake an hour earlier last Monday should be grateful for such eye-opening gossip.
  • so the call girl is totally going to profit off this whole thing... I've heard that she's up for record contracts... magazines and now a Vodka bottle?

Vodka Brand Wants Call Girl to Be Latest 'Butt Girl'
Georgi Offers 'Six Figures' to Fallen Governor's Paramour Be Drink's Pinup

CHICAGO (AdAge.com) -- The owner of Georgi vodka said he is in talks to put the derriere of former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer's call girl on the backside of every bus in New York.

Star Industries CEO Martin Silver, who owns U.S. rights to the brand, told Ad Age his firm is making headway in talks to pay Ashley Dupre a low six-figure amount to be this year's Georgi "butt girl," the annual pinup the brand posts on the backs of city buses and the tops of taxicabs.

    'Like Paris Hilton or something'
"The girls' butt we have on there now is pretty good, but if you can get [Dupre] to do it, and to make some personal appearances, it's like Paris Hilton or something," said Mr. Silver. "We are trying to work out a contract," he added.

He said one possibility was to create a new brand called No. 9, which was Mr. Spitzer's designation by the call-girl service, but said nothing had yet been decided.

Mr. Silver said his company sprung quickly because he felt the word-of-mouth buzz Ms. Dupre generates would boost his vodka's profile and sales. He said he expects many other brands to, um, come calling.

"This girl's gonna get inundated [with offers]," he said. "She's worth a lot of money."

Ms. Dupre's attorney, Don Buchwald, partner at Kelley Drye & Warren, said only that he was "not aware of any endorsement or any deals."
  • By now everyone knows that she shot herself in the foot, taking pennies (subpennies!) on the dollar. This is of course in regard to her girls gone wild stuff. Funny, there were multiple $1M offers on the table...until somebody got wise and checked their archives, haha.
    NY Post story

Anyhow. Regarding Patterson. Mark my words, Diane Dixon. This one is big. Or it should be. Him fooling around on his wife is one thing. Him coming clean preemptively about it is one thing. Him BS'ing while doing her _this year_ and then employing her at a six figure position is a totally different thing that is going to bite him in the ass. Big time.
  • The whole thing, as explained by a 3-year-old between sips of Strawberry Quick:
