OMG! My Dry Cleaner Found Dead in WT**Arrest Made!**

I'm freaking out. My sweet, sweet, sweet dry cleaner on 10th Ave and Windsor - Eden Cleaners - was found dead in the bathroom with blood around her according to Channel 7 news just now.

They said her name is Mary, but she told me her name was Linda

OMG, I'm so sad. She was a very nice lady whom I've used as my cleaner for 10+ years and the news is calling it suspicious as her car is missing

  • holy shit! that's terrible!
  • her store used to be on Windsor for many years and she had been robbed there a few times. I used to worry about her being there by herself.....
  • She used to say "hi sweetie" to me all the time, and she put my buttons on for free (as she knew I'm a spaz with sewing). When I lost some weight she told me to stop....said I was getting too skinny (what woman doesn't want to hear that?!)
  • I am sick about this. He gave us starter clippings from the plants she had growing in her store. She was lovely.
  • No new info...

    NY Daily
  • http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=news/local&id=6146911

Witnesses in and about the area before the discovery of the victim have described the following person as also being there. The person of interest is described as 5'8" male between the ages of 20 to 25 year old. He was said to be wearing a baseball cap, white shirt, blue jeans and carrying a black knapsack.
  • This is another reason to support your local stores. It ain't easy running a mom and pop store, and one is alone more than not. It's scary. Let the shopkeepers know you care about them, don't wait for something bad to happen. As the Flaming Lips said,"
Do You Realize - that everyone you know
    Someday will die -
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know"
    that you care.
  • It's terrible. I always worried about the store owner - especially the ladies who work alone a lot.....Sandra at the 24 market on PPW, Jackie from Lavendar Nails, and of course, Linda.

I've been in the nail salon a few times late and offered to stay with Jackie as she closed up.

Linda was a hard worker, a sweet lady and a good neighborhood store keeper. I will miss her.
  • Subject: crime

Last week at 5:15am the Mini Market
on 16th and PPW was held up by two blacks with guns and last night about 8:30 Shop Smart on PPW a black guy grabbed their jar with Lotto receipts and ran out the door.
it was captured on Video but the 72nd didn't take a copy.
  • There were two "incidents" yesterday with 2 black males in Park Slope. The 72nd did not send a detective out to pick up the evidence either....Hmm...I"m more familiar with the 78. Anyone know the community liason for the 72?

  • So I just keep thinking, what now? What do you do when there is all this crime around (I live on Prospect Avenue... and there have been far too many posts the last few days about strange occurrences). I think about the guy who got jumped in the park, and all the above instances, and can't think of how to respond. Do I carry mace? Will that really do anything? I know there is no real answer to this, but just wondering if anyone has any good thoughts.
  • That is so wrong. How terrible that her loved ones must endure a nightmare.
  • Best thing to do is carry a cell phone and be aware. I am a night owl and generally I feel safe. But I did almost get mugged May 3 about 2AM by PS 154. The kid/young adult backed off, there were two others across the street on Windsor. He was nervous, I was too but did not show it, kept walking, called the police, and once they saw that they left in a gray unmarked van. The cops said to be careful around the park (easy getaway) and subway exits.

Just as an aside, because of yesterday, you will hear about more (EDIT: or pay more attention to) incidents than you normally would. Incidents happen you generally don't hear about them.

Carry a gun. Get them before they get you.

only if they allow us citizens to protect ourselves from the criminal elements.
  • NY1.com has a sketch of suspect (or "person of interest"), and info that Linda was strangled to death.

MODS - can this be made a sticky so people can take a look at the sketch?

    thanks
  • this has shock me, usually when people rob places, they take the money and let people go.
  • this is too sad. I feel much too human now.

  • Ballard's pharmacy was also robbed Friday ...by three black (not blick) men (not chess pieces) and the 72nd pct was called by the owner....and they never responded to the call.
  • Funeral services for Linda are tonight at 7:30 in Elmhurst. I didn't have paper and pen to write down the info, but it is posted on the door of her shop.

Anybody plan on going? I might.
  • That's really awful. I agree, whatever happened to robbing the money and leaving. I hope they catch the bastards and hang them. How much ya wanna bet they're repeat offenders.
  • John Davenport a community activist called me this morning and discussed the possibility of organizing a rally on Thursday evening outside the Eden Dry Cleaners to highlight the absence of the 72nd Pct in Windsor Terrace.

He had already spoken to the a LT. at the Borough Commanders Office and advised him there will be a rally or a Community Meeting to discuss the outrage over Mrs. Woo's murder and the recent series of hold ups in the neighborhood.

I'll post an update in the next day or two.
