Oh my gawd, how perfect! I believe this to be Carnivore's point. The attitude espoused here is much more indicative of the attitude received in the area. For better or for worse. As opposed to the understanding apologetic attitude shown by new2hood.

You sound like a cry baby. Did some 3 year old hurt your feelings by walking too slowly on the sidewalk? Maybe no one apologized to you because they had nothing to apologize for. Its funny that people who criticize parents for thinking they own the sidewalks have the same exact views ehmselves. I have news for you - we ALL have to share the sidewalks. Get over it and move on. -

And who doesn't like to get pushed around in a shopping cart? Why just last winter...

As a parent who walks around the 'hood with a couple of kids, one in a stroller, one recently graduated from the stroller, I am very self conscious of how slow I have to go and how serpentine my older boy walks. To him, the fastest way between two points is a zig zag. I try to keep to one side and keep the older boy focused. I'll apologize if my stroller (I) accidentally clips someone or if my boy (all 25 pounds of him) knocks into someone’s legs.
I am amused however, how rude and impatient people can be when they try to pass me but can't because the sidewalk is crowded with people, wheelchairs, tables of scarves, gloves and socks, or other strollers. My son has been nearly knocked down a number of times. He’s just a kid for goodness sake. No one group owns the sidewalks and people need to cool down or leave the house 3 minutes earlier so they are not so rushed. I also am amused how much blame is placed on strollers and kids. Walk around this weekend and look to see how many couples or groups of friends are walking around with no particular agenda just taking up space and impossible to pass. You will be surprised. Even we walk faster than them! -

No shit. I call a fuckhead hate fest. Fuckhead Hate Fest 2008! No, you do NOT get to meander six abreast at half speed, assholes!
Not that I'm bitter.
I blame the drugs for such comments. -
Since this thread is already worthless (at least as far as the bogus original topic is concerned) here's some mindless destruction to keep you entertained:

Warning: If you love shopping carts, do not look. -

Sheesh. It totally doesn't count without a passenger in the cart.

These kids today know nothing. -
Drano wrote: The obvious solution to this problem is for people to start pushing their kids around in shopping carts like I used to do. Now I can just hear someone saying, "But Drano, your excellency, however shall I procure such a thing?" Well, I'll tell you what to do: Keep a sharp eye out! Within a day or two, you will probably notice a shopping cart in some odd place around the neighborhood. More often than not, the cart will be loaded with an assortment of items - cans and the like are popular, but random junk such as blankets and clothing are occasionally seen. Anyway, dump all that crap out all over the street, you won't need it. What the hell, set it on fire if you have the time. Assuming all has gone well, after a quick hose down you now have a free, durable, all terrain non-stroller on your hands. No need to thank me, your anticipated happiness is what keeps me going.
Plus, you can fit your dog, cat, and a couple trolls in there. And they can all poop freely through the bottom.

This is when the fight breaks out. On the protesters' side of the police line, three young women with babies in strollers salute the Nazis. Immediately, they are surrounded by screaming protesters. One young Nazi mother cradles a baby in one hand and uses the other to punch a young man repeatedly in the face until he is bloody. A young Nazi man who is with her stands back and lets her be the warrior. The strategy works: The man who has been beaten will not hit a woman. The crowd allows them to leave.

Is this the Tea Lounge on Union St or 10th? -
Groups of people hogging the sidewalk suck, but not as much people riding bikes on sidewalks or speeding vehicles zipping through red lights.
A group of over two people walking with their elbows touching, instead of single file, on a crowded sidewalk should be fined $5000 per person.
Extra stroller usage be should be eliminated. Using strollers for babies who cannot walk is legitimate, but why do adults transport 7 and 8 year olds (who can walk) in strollers? -
So I am a Gramma and have been wheeling around a kid in a stroller for 8 years... not the same kid... blessed with 3 grandkids. the oldest is eight. I think I have some authority because I raised these Grandkids" parents in Park Slope before the Stroller generation. Shoot... my kids got out of those strollers and walked as soon as they could.!! My job was to run down the street after them. It was good exercise for all of us.
I could care less about how many strollers there are in PS. I am careful when I Stroll and try not to attacK anyone with the vehicle.. no matter how expensive it is.. and I am the gramma so I have PAID for all those strollers cause... First they want the McClaren and then they want the jogging stroller and then they want the OTHER McClaren (that weighs less than the new born infant)... blah blah..
My favorite stroller is a Graco that I bought 7 1/2 years ago in ToysR Us. It cost $49 at the time.. It was light weight but sturdy, it has a tray for snacks, it was blue and basic. It is still on the road. It also has magic. Put any kid in this stroller and in 5 minutes of walking they fall asleep. I am not kidding! The other day my 2 year old grandson was over for the day. I had his fancy McClaren stroller so I put him in it. O>K> I admit I am embarrased by the $49 stroller as I move through the Slope. The kid does get in it cooperatively and then announces.. "I want Gramma's stroller!" and begins to weep. I told you it was magic. So, I got him outta there and planted him in the cheapo stroller and we went out for a walk. He fell asleep in 10 minutes.. I wheeled him home and he stayed asleep for near 2 hours of peace and quiet for me..
Point of Story? None!! But if I made you smile even a little that is my point..
I wish people in PS would just get over this stroller thing!! Pay atention. If you are a mom don't aim for the single people in PS. If you are just a walk around person in PS... stop day dreaming and pay attention so you don't get clonked by that thousand buck stroller!!! -
The City can solve these problems simply by implementing an alternate side of the street stroller program and on 4th ave an alternate side of the street dog pooping law.
-
Watch out Hamilton, you're starting some turf wars there :rambo: Will the alternate side pooping be on the Gowanus side or the PS side of 4th ave :P

Ahh the blue cap was a nice touch. Good Job!

I don't want to have a problem with either side, so as an alternative I recommend the canine anal cork, just insert and when the dog fills up throw it away.
It worked in Sunset Park. -

I had my first stroller encounter today since moving to PS in December.
I was in Union Square, and it was a young African-American couple with two kids in a double-wide stroller ramming into my ankles as I tried to board an L train to go to a restaurant in Williamsburg. I turned and asked the mother, who was pushing the stroller, to please watch what she was doing. She ignored me and started yelling at the people behind her. -
and you mention their race because....

To assure everyone that stroller offenders come from all locations, in all colors, shapes and sizes.
Reading this board, I thought that as soon as the weather turned I wouldn't be able to take my weekend jog through the hood without being mowed down by a Panzer division of bugaboos. It hasn't happened. Not saying that it hasn't happened to others. But it's either way overblown or I just happen to miss it even though I probably walk five miles through the neighborhood on a regular weekend.
The most interesting thing I've seen in PS stroller-wise was a couple pushing a stroller that had only a basketball in it. I didn't see a kid on any shoulders or trailing behind them. So that was a little weird. Maybe they were expecting and practicing? -
Or way too lazy to carry a basketball.

Are you sure it wasn't a yuppie pod -
So that's where "pod people" come from? I always thought it had something to do with body snatchers...

The body snatchers came from another planet, Yuppie pods came from another borough. -

horray, lets turn this into a race argument thread!

Better yet, let's allow Yoda to continue proving his/her ideological purity...

Well maybe YOU dont need this reassurance, thats cool.
and we need reassurance because????
but some folks do seem to need reminding that its not only rich white park slope mommies that behave this way.
of course these same folks also seem to need reminding that not all rich white park slope mommies are oblivious offenders.
