I was there this evening LIAM and asked about that- they didn't open till 4pm. Bartender was there- owner got there late.
  • I made a visit over to FP and had a lovely time. The sign isn't very obvious so it's easy to miss. Can't wait to bring hubby over. He loves all kinds of beer and there's something called Pork Slap(?) that even I have to try.
  • We had a great time at FP last night. Good crowd, hopping but not too loud, fantastic bartender (Shaun, great guy). Re: buybacks...the husband got his beer on the house on the second round. Smart.

Between this and (fingers crossed) Abigail, I'm finally able to bar hop within a three-block radius. And it only took 12 years of living in the PH/CH!

Funny you should mention it- I got NOT ONE buyback from Su the other night. Nice girl, but I was a little upset that I paid for all my drinks (I refuse to admit how many on the grounds that I may incriminate myself).
I also have waited for so long for this as well. How psyched are we?!?!?

Yesterday I went to the art gallery on St Johns, met the woman who owns it. She was really cool, and she's planning on having lots of music in the coming months (inlcuding some concert on June 15th), so imagine how cool it will be to go to Abigail's, saunter over to the gallery to hear some music/see some art, and then head to a beer garden to end the evening.
I seriously cannot contain myself. :bounce:
  • Where's the art gallery on St. Johns? (Cross street or address, I mean, before some wiseacre answers "St. Johns'). :)
  • same block and side of the street as franklin park, but closer to classon. just past the garage.
  • Thanks sweet tea! You have yourself a pleasant day.
  • OK - so does anyone else think that side bar ad for "Just Ask the Locals" with P.Diddy's picture is hilarious?

So, do celebrities hang out at Franklin Park? If so, I'm not going. :)

  • Awesome - thanks for the link, naif!
  • Subject: Happy Hour..

I will be at Franklin park for Happy hour 4 to 8 pm, so maybe i will see you inside the bar since its cold and rainy, but that won't stop me from drinking Schneider Weiss all night!!
  • Subject: Its OPEN

The place is OPEN. We went by yesterday and it looks nice. Didnt stop to eat yet - maybe next weekened
  • i don't know much about beers, but I tried the Weiss the other day and it was awesome! Can't wait until they start serving food.
  • I went there with a neighborhood buddy on Sunday evening - it was a little too chilly to sit outside, but the inside is cool as well. Nice atmosphere, although I am willing to bet it's going to get hella crowded come summer.
  • I'll be there tonight at 9 or so.
  • see you there!

    introduce yourself!
  • I will be the one with the big bottle of Captain Lawrence tripple Ale, watch out!!

as long as you don't hit me with it.
  • Interview/article in the Observer.
  • The hip bar – which opened a few weeks ago at the end of the partially unsavory block on St. John's Place between Classon and Franklin

uhhh, how is this block unsavory? that article had a weird tone, it sucked.

  • oh sorry i didn't mean to post that twice. but yeah, icky article.

*shrug* I was personally paced for a mugging on that block, and I know of several other muggings on it. I'm not going to quibble with "partially unsavory."
  • I agree..weird slum tourism angle to the article. yech.
  • well, i'm a woman in my 20s and live on that block and walk up and down alone it daily and have never felt threatened...the parking garage is 24 hours so even around midnight i feel pretty safe. there are a lot of families with kids hanging out outside most of the time!

but yeah i am more annoyed by the general tone and the need to turn a bar review into a weird race/class thing :/ it says more about the author than the neighborhood itself.
  • Popped in Saturday w/ wifey - somehow I missed it was set up like a beer garden - shocked by how lovely the whole steup was - inside and out.

Sat in had some decent wine. Checked for id at door by huge but very friendly bouncer guy - not expecting that at all in this nabe.

    Def will be back.

wow. that article blows. what a riptard. maybe 5% of the article is dedicated to FP, another 5% is dedicated to deliberate confusion of neighborhoods, and the rest is dedicated to making the surroundings sound shitty and lame.

    blech.
  • I finally made it here over the weekend and all I have to say is: wow! I was shocked to see how crowded it was. Clearly, the owners read the area correctly. Bartenders were friendly and professional, drinks were strong, beer selection decent. A nice addiction to the neighborhood.

Interracial dating was out in full force. Saw 5-6 IR couples during the night, but no "I heart West Indies men" t-shirts.
  • does FP have food yet? i smelled some serious delicious bbq smells earlier in the afternoon wafting from their direction. but maybe someone nearby was just having a cook out. (or it could be that smoker outside of "the spice is right"). damn temptation is everywhere!
