The F train always has, does now ...
and will forever Suck! Down yesterday due to "heat related" problems - I mean hours to get home. Down this morning because of "switching problems" at Bergen - had to get "M" at 4th and "D" at Atlantic to get to work - both of which, BTW, were clean, air conditioned, uncrowded and ran smoothly.
Only the "F" sucks the weenie all the time!

yeah, that was fun this morning. funny thing was, after transferring to the R, then to the Q at DeKalb, I got to 34th street faster than I normally do on the F.

One of the reasons I started working from home was to avoid that horrible commute every day.
And how about when it floods during heavy rain? Good times, good times. -
This morning was definately not fun. Also, we're still waiting for that service advisory txt messages that was mentioned after the flooding debacle last year.

residents in some neighborhoods woke up this morning without electricity.
Store owners in Boerum Hill, the largest area hit, say the loss of power is costing them business. Residents add that it's not easy facing the heat without fans or air conditioners

I heard that people in Boerum Hill lost power as early as 7 pm yesterday and that both the F G are pretty well messed up.
While it doesnt change the fact that your commute sucked,
clearly, your day could have been worse. -
See update from NYTimes blog - I would like like to add that it's ConEd that really SUCKS!
The F and G subway lines in Brooklyn were still affected by electricity failures this morning. The disruptions began on Sunday afternoon because the subway system depends on low-voltage Con Ed feeder lines for signals and the station lighting.
The Coney Island-bound F trains are now running on the D line between the West 4th Street-Washington Square Station and the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue Station. And G train service has been stopped between the Bedford-Nostrand Avenue Station and the Smith-9th Street Station in both directions.
Paul Fleuranges, a spokesman for New York City Transit, said, “We have third-rail power. That hasn’t been affected. So we can move trains, but without signals, we can’t operate safely, which is why we need to bring in generators.”
The problems began on Sunday (which were solved when the M.T.A. brought in its generators), again this morning at 8:10 a.m., and again at 9:45 a.m. “We have generators out on the scene and we are bringing additional generators out there to provide the additional capacity we need to power our signals,” said Mr. Fleuranges, who added that M.T.A. currently has two generators in operation, and will have a total of five. -

Yeah! What the hell ever happened with that? Sheesh.

Went to dinner last night on Smith St. and several blocks had no electricity. Many of the restaurants were closed or about to close. We went to Savoia --they had power but service was a mess because they had experienced an outage earlier.
I wrote off the F train as a commute option years ago. I'm smack in the middle so I prefer the Q, B, 2, and 3 to go to Manhattan. -
From the MTA web site:
Due to a signal problem at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue Station, there are delays in train service in both directions.
In addition, due to ongoing signal problems at the Beach 44th Street Station, there are delays in train service in both directions.
Also, due to ongoing signal problems at the Bergen Street Station:
Coney Island-bound trains are running with delays.
There is no train service in both directions between the Bedford-Nostrand Avenue Station and the Smith-9th Street Station.
As an alternate, there is a shuttle train running between the Bedford-Nostrand Avenue Station and the Hoyt-Schermerhorn Street Station.
Please expect delays in , , and train service at this time. -
Praise Jebus, the F got me home from Manhattan without incident. It's a miracle!

still beats paying 4bucks and change for a gallon of gas.

Not if you must pay a taxi $28 to get you to your job in Manhattan because the F train is not running.
We know what the "F" stands for. -

But how often do you do that? Average that out to what it would cost you to drive, I'm sure you're still far, far ahead. -
OK - I became a "B" train convert this morning - got a seat at 7th Ave! A/C worked beautifully and mostly uncrowded the whole way to B'way/Lafayette - and super fast. It's a couple of blocks longer walk but simply beats the hell outta the "F."
-
Shhh... don't tell... everyone will join us, and then it won't be so easy to get a seat...

I bike from PS, 10th and 5th to midtown, 7th ave & 31st street in 45min. It wasn't too bad, rather sweat and fry than smell a bunch of strangers' body odor on the train. Just bring a change of clothes because you will be drenched in this heat.

Coming home from work today, got to 14th Street on the F and they made an announcement that "Due to a switching problem at Jay Street, all Brooklyn-bound F trains are being routed over the Manhattan Bridge." Since I live just off the 7th Ave. stop on the F, there's no good alternative except for walking from either 9th St./4th Ave. or 7th Ave./Flatbush.

"Did I say I was going to improve the stations and add service? Mmm, yeah, not gonna happen. In fact, I think I'm gonna have to jack up the fares and maybe cut service. Those dime bags don't pay for themselves, y'know ..."
"Yeah, about that 2nd Avenue subway ... I don't think I'm gonna get around to that anytime soon. A little short this year ..."
"Dude, I totally spaced on those text-message service announcements. Sorry about that." -

Work with me, populuxe, work with me. Can't we just stress the fact that the F train SUCKS? Why point out any gold nuggets in a pile of crap? Let's not make the F train sound any better than it is not. -

Fine, I'll throw in: The F is consistently filthy. Maybe not quite as bad as the A, but bad enough. -

Subway problems suck, but for me it's just a cost of doing business here. Some percentage of the time, you're gonna get screwed. I think it's still pretty good over all, even on the slow-ass F.
That said, I really miss the B/Q. Those trains rock. -
