Caribbeans. Also the correct term is West Indians.
Sorry, and OK, thx. -
Daver, Putnam... with all due respect I think you're doing the online equivalent of bashing your heads into a wall repeatedly. The other guest is just baiting you and has yet to offer up any statistics or information that back up his many claims. Here's my analogy:
Guest: Hey everybody look! The sky is plaid today!
Putnam, Daver: Uh, no. It's blue.
Guest: Don't believe the political and media machine trying to paint a picture that the sky is actually blue. Take it from me, because I know my plaid, in fact, I'M PLAID, that the sky is actually plaid. Plaid, I say!!
Putnam, Daver: Uh, can you back that up? A pic? Some articles, something?
Guest: NO IT'S PLAID YOU IGNORANT BUFFOONS! I SAID IT'S PLAID!! IT'S PLAID BECAUSE I SAY IT'S PLAID.
Really, entertainment aside this is just futile. -
Well, I learned the correct term for the people of the Caribbean: West Indians. So it isn't a total loss.

BKlynForLife wrote: Not to be too gentrific, but why would Whites move into a nabe that's 95% ethnic? The prices in Brooklyn Heights/Carroll Gardens/DUMBO too astronomic? How would you feel living in a section of city that most people outside of it wouldn't want to be caught speeding in, let alone live there? And now it's become 'fashionable' to buy out the best brownstones and brick faces while the people who've lived there for generations are forced to relocate because the Yuppie/Gen X pop culture need to stretch their horizons? ...So here we are...people born and raised in The Stuy forced to move so that the mighty Whitey with money honey can live comfortably and commute easily to his/her comfy job on Park Ave, Mad Ave or Wall St...where People Of Color are few and far in between.
I highlighted to show that you've answered your own question.
Hey, come on down to Brownsville or out to ENY where for a few dollars less you can live in even less gentrification.
Peace
People tend to live in the nicest area/home they can afford.
Or do you believe that "Whitey" now living in Bed-Stuy, CH etc. can easily afford to pay twice as much to live in a "Whitey" neighborhood - but choose to live here just to screw over poor Black folk and whoever else you deem to be the true residents of these neighborhhods?
And if you do believe that "Whitey" can afford to pay more to live elsewhere but doesn't because he's out to screw poor folk - tell me - is that decision reached individually or are there "Whitey" group meetings where the Head Whitey lays out his plans for world domination?
Also all those Black landlords and owners who are selling their brownstones for a million plus or charging exhorbitant rents - do they have any responsibility for any of this gentrification - or are they all dupes and pawns of "Whitey"? -

Just to throw fuel on the fire, I'd like to point out that _my_ landlord is Jewish and an immigrant from Israel.
