Immigration Question

I have a student whose parents immigrated from Mexico when he was one year old. They came illegally. His mother has been paying taxes, but they have never applied for citizenship. He is lost about how to go about it on his own. He has someone who will sponsor him, but he doesn't know how to start. Does the employer just put him on the payroll? Does anyone have advice? A good immigration lawyer?

Years back I referred someone here (see below) with excellent results.
It is run by the Brooklyn Diocease, but you don't have to be Catholic to use their services. If I remember correctly, there was no charge, just paying the fees for filings etc. Their website appears to be down at this time. They were very nice, competent and efficient.
