I hope it's not true - Gowanus Lounge was looking up the SuperSaver closing real estate back story and found a space that for rent that looks like La Taqueria.

    i'm shocked by the news actually, and this would be a really big loss for the neighborhood.

    WHAT kind of landlord would put a longtime institution out of business to then list the place for rent with no new tenant in place in this economy?

    it's not like i don't believe in free market capitalism, but in the times we're in now, they really wouldn't rather try to negotiate with la taqueria instead of having ANOTHER storefront sit empty??

    maybe there's something else going on with the restaurant itself though. i suppose perhaps they might just be over it.

    I feel like Rachels and La Taqueria have been in trouble for a while.
    First the prices rose and then rose again, and over the last year or 2 the quality has been declining a lot. We ordered Rachels last night & I don't know if I'll be ordering it again - it was on par with some of the most bland food I have ever eaten. The guacamole was literally just mashed avocado with a chunk of tomato thrown in. I was sadly disappointed - I used to LOVE Rachels.

    La Taq did seem to have some identity confusion: Do we offer sit down? Are we a restaurant or a bar? Do we love strollers or shun them? Do we post our prices or make people guess?

    ...but I can say "Baja, black beans, chicken, corn, no sour cream" in my sleep.

    La Taq was the first meal I had in Park Slope in 2006. Lets hope it doesnt leave.

    la taq just underwent a makeover lately with a remodeled interior and new awning, new bar, etc.

    that's sometimes a sign things are rocky and need to be "shaken up" but makes this news even more disappointing if it's indeed true...

    i hope to jesus the rumors about back to the land and d'vine taste are not true. that would be utterly devastating to me.

    same with Garfield Farm. I shop at all 3 places a ton.

    All of these landlords are idiots. I can't imagine many small businesses opening up with PS Rent prices in this economy. I hope this doesn't become the land of chains.

    Time to pack up and move!

    As if the fire a few years ago that killed the grocery store and the loss of Andrew the GOOD fruit man on 7th Avenue weren't bad enough.

    I relied on Super Savers for over the counter drugs. I can't stand NeerGaard, which is better than any Riteaid, because NeerGaard's staff spends more time eyeing me and following me around the store like I'm a shoplifter than they do helping customers. Yet, I'll shop at NeerGaard before Riteaid.

    Now threats that Taqueria might close?

    Did you know it costs more money to buy Mexican inspired food products at the Key Food on 7th Avenue than it does to order from Taqueria? Yesterday, Key Food was selling 16 oz. jars of Desert Pepper brand salsa for $6.49! (Most other markets sell the same stuff for around $4.00.)

    What's the point of living in Park Slope if 7th Avenue becomes a burnt out ghost town?

    Rachels food has gone downhill- I live really close to there and used to order all the time- i've noticed a sharp decline in the delivery quality just since this past summer. The last time my boyfriend and I ordered it was actually inedible and we ended up making mac n cheese. Slimy veggies, sloppy presentation (I mean yeah its just a burrito but both of ours were so poorly wrapped that as soon as you peeled back the foil they exploded on the plate) and both of our orders were wrong. Damnit, rachels, you used to be a fave.

    I never found Rachel's to be as good as LA Taqueria.
    Same menu, but worse execution from the beginning.
    LA Taq on the other hand has been pretty consistent, although I haven't been there either much in the last few months.

    What? Back To The Land and D'vine Taste? They might close? I was under the impression that both of these places owned their buildings, of course I could be very wrong.

    Maybe that's why La Taq is always chintzy on the salsa...two burritos and you only give us two tiny, half-filled cups of salsa? As Gob would say, "C'mon!"

    La Taq is way better than Rachel's - I completely agree. Funny how the same recipe can taste so much better with better presentation, consistency, freshness, and seasoning. But I think last time I added chips and salsa to my delivery order at La Taq it was $7 or $8 and I almost had a heart attack. The delivery guy said he gets that a lot.

    Raw, I stopped shopping at NeerGaard for the same reason. I've never been to the 7th Ave one but at the one of 5th Ave the employees literally stand at the end of every aisle I am shopping on and stare at me until I've made my purchase.

    right next to cousin john's bakery, which you can also see in the picture.

    i don't know. went once and never again. it was truly horrible.

    i like the new la taq too. and even if it hasn't seemed super crowded lately, i would have thought they did a pretty healthy take out business. that side always seems mobbed.

    the new area is about as close to a bar as this part of 7th has, so i was into it. i wouldn't mind a real bar in this stretch though...

    Businesses are being killed by TAXES here in NYC and NYS, not just rent. Higher taxes, higher minimum wage equals a recipe for disaster. Fortunately, the ridiculous 3k credit Barry was to implement was just dropped, as if that would have helped.
