  • I can no longer afford my weekly Botox treatments.
  • I've been forced to cut down on manis and pedis for the kitties. They'll just have to start learning how to paint their own claws.
  • After reading all the talk about d'vine taste closing , I went over and asked Nellie the owner if the business is closing .She was shocked and said "who is saying these things and no she is not closing" . She asked me to post to dispell the rumor . After chitchatting with the owner she did say all the businesses in the hood was suffering so please shop local. :salut:

Who knew that getting off-line and interacting with people in reality illuminates truth? Smart!

My hat goes off to you, lurker 67. Thank you for your non-idiotic method of handling this matter and putting our worries to rest.

    Signs of intelligent life !
  • shocker...caseopele was the one who started the rumor about d'vine taste.

i was at back to the land last night and asked the same question...they said business is a little off, but they are doing fine.

Knock off the shit or I won't invite you to my Checkers Invitational.
  • I want a burrito now.
  • the last thing we need are false rumors saying that specific businesses are in trouble when they aren't!!

that might keep people away if they think the place is closing anyway...

oh, I can't stay mad. Red or black?
  • Dude, chill. It's not going to keep anyone away. If anything regular customers will frequent more to give the place business. People who never go there wont give a shit either way. And it's just a message board, Don't Believe Everything You Read.
  • i don't agree mamacita.

if i know la taq is going out of business either way, i'd personally rather spend my money at another place and hope they survive.

unless i were really craving that burrito one last time...
  • Mrs Why and I have already gone to La Taq based on this thread.
  • Glad to hear they are both ok-I would have been truly shocked if either of those at least 20 year old businesses were closing down!

But, yes, rumors of stores/businesses closing do sometimes make business worse for them Mama. People hear a place is going out of business, so, they start looking for a replacement store right away, start shopping at that replacement store and then the original store/business really does go under because they now have lost business. Never, ever a good idea to say things like "such and such is going to close" unless you are 100% positive they are.

That's so funny, I always thought you were a woman yourself.

    Me too. :D
  • Ah, belzjm. You just can't help yourself, can you?

As for getting offline and interacting with people, I didn't hear anything about this stuff online. It came from an owner of another business that isn't doing well. My purpose of posting was to let people know that some local stores ARE in trouble. If people want to keep them around then they should support them.

I'll take it as a compliment, and move on.

Anyway, we went this week, but didn't ask the staff when and if they were going out of business because:

    1. We didn't want to tell a staff member who might not know the place was for lease.
    2. We didn't see a manager type to ask.
    3. We were too busy eating.

Well what can I say there's a lot of idiots in the world. I'll personally am going to suck every last burrito down :chef:

    (no dirty jokes please)

im sure you realize i would prefer not to agree with beljzm.

    but lemme ask you this,
if i posted how i heard from another business owner that a certain liquor store was actually a drug front or a mob front or was going to be out of business soon and that they also sold to bluehatted babies ,
wouldnt it concern you a little bit ?
wouldnt you wonder why no one bothered to simply ask ?
wouldnt you be a little annoyed someone is spreading lies about your business ?
  • Okay, now all we need to do is find that owner of LA Taq and ask HIM what the plans are. Presumably the real estate listing is real, but LA Taqueria is another of our long-term solidly successful and seemingly recession-proof businesses.
    (fingers crossed)
  • This thread is making me want a pork burrito so badly! Not because of the content of the thread, as that's getting old and boring, more like the words "La Taqueria" has a Pavlovian effect on me and I instantly begin to droll. It's very unseemly, as I am at work you know.
  • I'm going to miss them!!!!

your sig line is having a similar effect on me; I dislike those dog food meatballs but am now keen to go to IKEA.
    :D:o

I'm going on Saturday! Wanna ride? I have plenty of room since Mama has to walk. :D
  • It would be crushing to lose La Taqueria. That is absolutely the best take-out option for anyone living on the north end of the Slope.

Not too much hate for Santa Fe Grill. It's far from the best restaurant on earth, but it certainly does a serviceable job. It's practically a Rick Bayless joint compared to Lobo. Before the Flatbush boom, it was the closest place to eat to my apartment and our go-to place on really cold nights when we wanted to eat out. The spinach and cheese enchiladas and burrazos are pretty good.

I haven't gotten any update emails on this thread so I'm responding a little late. I'm pretty sure that posting about a business possibly being in trouble is a hell of a lot different from posting that a business is a drug or mob front. As for spreading lies? Maybe I should go yell at the business owner who told us about the other businesses not doing so well. What I wanted to do was get people to put their money where their mouths are. So many people in PS and on this board claim to be for small businesses, if that's true then go spend your money there if you want them to stick around. Unless people prefer empty storefronts, cell phone stores, and realty offices.

It's been a little over 3 years since I moved out of PS, and even though I still work there, I understand some of the people that live there less and less. Neighborhoods like PS are a bit like bubbles, I am beginning to see why people in the "less desirable" neighborhoods have such a hard time understanding life there. I have a theory that the more comfortable people's lives get, the less they see of the world around them. The more concerned they become about small, and sometimes petty, issues. I love my job, I love most of my customers, and I love the sense of community we have. But recently, when push has come to shove, I've noticed that the people who take the most advantage of the services and benefits of small business are the very same people who refuse to support us.
  • D'Vine Taste is renovating - new orange mouldings, etc. I don't think they're closing.
  • I dont see how publicly posting anything that is either supposed to be confidential or is completely wrong can possibly benefit the business in question.

if someone wrote a false diatribe about you or your store
and insisted it was true hey they heard it from another owner,

wouldnt you be a little pissed ?

wouldnt you be telling that person they have no right whatsoever talking about your private life or to be making shit up ?

Moreover, you'll note how this board more or less attacks anyone who pops up out of nowhere to support a business as shill, omg what horrible people right ?

someone spreads lies , makes up stories as mentioned (tey are going out of business when it aint true, drug front mob front hey a rapist works here, hey theres cockroaches in my crackers, hey that liquor store sells to minors)

    they are hailed a hero!

 no one stops to consider they might be a vindictive asshole who just lost their job, or whose cab was 2 minutes late or who wasnt allowed to bring their fucking st bernard in to a restaurant, or who lost their res when they coundnt be bothered to call and say theyd be late, or someone who simply hates their neighbor etc etc etc

and that is really ass backwards
  • since you seem to like posting anything hear ...

should everyone going in to removed have to be
concerned anything they say will be posted by YOU on the web ?

do you really think thats your function as counter girl ?

Edit by Mod: Not cool to out peoples place of work-M
