aw, that's not nice
i have had pocket pets, all of them when i reached over the age of 30. well, they weren't actually MY pets, per se. they were my pet dogs' pets, but of course, you know how it is: they beg and beg for a pet but then they don't feed it, don't clean the cage regularly, don't pay enough attention to it... -
your dog has pets?
-
whoa whoa whoa, your pets don't have pets, brooklynpotter?
kilby (to your left) has his own pet dog. his pet dog has a pet hamster, which itself has a pet beta fish named gulpy. the beta fish has pet sea monkeys, whose names i'm always forgetting, and the only pets sea monkeys like are plankton. as we all know, among the many ills our planet is suffering is a dearth of plankton, so they've become extremely expensive and hard to find. but i have to keep kilby happy, and if that means getting plankton for his pet dog's pet hampster's pet beta fish's pet sea monkeys to have as pets, then so be it.
the plankton only want carbon dioxide, fortunately. -
I was thinking abut getting my dog a dog. He really likes dogs.
-
my cat doesn't want a pet, she doesn't like other animals. she also only likes one human: me

I jsut have to say "iloveparkslope" (and whatever other names you have registered under, I am sure the mods could easily find out) all your bs of interjecting into every other thread or post of yours about how much you just love love love Athena has made me never, ever ever want to go there!
You would have been much better off by doing what the guy from Aji did when he opened his restaurant and wanted to do some "advertising" here. He at least was honest about who he was and what he wanted! You coming on here pretending to be a poster who just happens to be crazy mad about Greek food and this new restaurant just annoys the crap out of me (and obviously a lot of other people too).
Congrats! you have given your restaurant lots of advertising, too bad it is poor advertising and has backfired to bite you in the ass! -
lnelson wrote: on a somewhat related topic, holy hell, i love olive vine. now here's the kind of place that keeps you coming back constantly for not-mindblowingly-amazing greek food:
My complaint with Olive Vine is that the day I went there, they had no AC. While it sounds nice now, it was in the middle of the summer...
Anyhow, your positive review makes me want to try again NOT when it's 100 out. -
i always go to the one down there, because it's so close. but the other one, in north slope, has this amazing garden where you can eat.
-
Zaytoons on Vanderbilt is good. (No, I do not have a vested interest).
-
yes, and you can sit outside as well.
eating +outdoors = yay -
oops, my bad. i need to be a better reader
(except it came across bloglines before the article was corrected, so i blame bloglines for my panic inducing post. ) -
noooo! that can't bode well for the south slope olive vine...
when will the closings end?! aren't park slopers supposed to be pushy and obnoxious and demanind? maybe if the FIDO people and stroller people organized a grand coalition, perhaps even inviting the people who got strollers banned from union hall, they could demand an end to...
no. that would never work. and not because you can't affect a recession via protest. but can you imagine all those people peacefully gathering in one place? i can't. -
lnelson, read the clip better. it would seem i jumped the gun (or GL did, then fixed it)
that's little D, not OV -

Little D - bummer. That place is/was delicious, the few times I went.
that's little D, not OV
I'm not on that end of the slope often enough to be a regular... -
never loved it, but it's a really cute space.

it was love at first sight. She's a smart kitty -
this is true. very smart.
-
...the only action is BP and Flexi discussing cats?
-
friday night, two hot chicks with nothing to do. sigh
-
but I'm not sure I can blame it on us being 40ish.

i was just watching spike TV. there's a show on called "manswers." it answers such pressing questions as:
1. is there really a martial arts move that will cause you to die of a cerebral hemorrhage up to three days later? (manswer: yes, but they don't stay how do do it)
2. how big are the world's biggest boobs?
3. "the deadly dump" - can you actually die from trying too hard to, um, how to put this politely...defecate?
i only stuck around for the manswer to question 1, but if anyone's really really really really really really to the infinite power bored, and the flexi/BP kitty convo isn't doing it for you, spike has that show. now you know.
so your visit to this message board was worthwhile. -
thanks, but I'm about to go to bed.

Subject: the new greek place, athena
I agree the prices look a bit high for an old school looking joint. what's with having cornish hen on a greek menu? they should actually try to be more authentic taverna style, less pretension would get them a loyal following in the hood. I would bring people in droves for some good taverna food. that place would be packed- tacky aesthetic or not-no one in park slope needs a cornish game hen when there is brilliantly simple but tasty Greek food to be devoured. And I couldn't agree more with the person who posted how crappy Aunt Suzie's is- that is some whack chow. I really want athena to stick around, and be more astoria less wanna-be-fusion (manhatten) greek food. -
I just went to Athena for dinner and it was so delicious. The prices were comparable to a Greek place in Manhattan that I go to a lot and the food was far tastier. It was nice to be at a down-to-earth, family-operated restaurant. I can't remember the last time a server was so pleased to hear me compliment the food. And the complimentary glass of wine is a nice bonus.

There seem to be a lot of favorable opinions about the place on Chowhound, which I found interesting...
