What could this mean?

I wouldn't tell my sister or daughter to take his picture and put it on the web, that's for sure. There's a word you should add to your vocabulary, and it's "overreacting." Yeah, it sucks, and yeah, it's a fact of big city life for at least hundreds of years. But there's a difference between someone who is annoying and someone who is going to rape you. Being alert when you're around a guy like that is one thing - treating him the way you would treat a rapist who got off on a technicality is something completely different.
-
A guy is harassing you in public view and it's somehow wrong to take his picture while he's doing it? It's being done in public, open for publc review. Let's be clear, following someone for a block is not a "pick up," it's harassment. You're not being overly sensitive to call it that.
Devin, don't stress about women with camera phones. Women aren't going to be posting up pictures of you unless you're an overly aggressive asshole who they want to warn other women about.
BTW, I've lived in Brooklyn all my life. I think I'm singularly suited to living here. -
I'm not saying that it's not annoying or awful or that it possibly rises to the level of "harrassment" (although I strongly doubt that it legally does). I think that taking pictures of people who bug you and posting them on the web is stupid, first of all. I don't even know what you're hoping to accomplish with that. Second, I find the urge to "publically shame" people highly suspect. It's a gross mob mentality.
-
If you just feel it's stupid, then fine, don't get your knickers in a twist about people doing stupid things, you'll surely be uncomfortable most of the time.
As for harrassment and legal definitions, I don't know. I thought the legal definition only applied in the workplace. I was using it in the colloquial sense.
As for the photo posting, I've never done it, but suspect it's not motivated by an urge to publicaly shame but an urge to inform and, thus, protect others. -

Do you know him Devin? Is he a friend of yours? How would you know? Were you there? After what happened to the young John Jay College student I hope no woman takes any chances including the ones that you love.
This is ridiculous. Every man that approaches you on the street is a potential sex murderer? How can you possibly live life in such fear? I have seen you people get up in arms about some silly stuff, but a dude who hits on women?? You're taking the cake here. I'm amazed some of you have the ability to walk out of your houses, considering how you see the world.
Devincf, it sounds to me like you are the one overreacting. Neither poster said they were fearful for their lives, but there was enough "off" about this guy to set off that internal instinct most women hopefully have that says, "Get away from this person quickly." It doesn't sound to me like he's just some poor schmuk who can't get a date. There's a difference in being smart and aware of your surroundings so you can enjoy your life (and having info on neighborhood wackos is one way to do that) and living in fear. -

I think the idea of taking a pictureof somebody sexually harrassing you makes sense. I doubt that I'd actually do it though. I'd be worried that taking a picture of the offender would only encourage him and make him imagine that I wanted to have sex with him.

jeebus, devin, listen to these women!
following people around is fucked up.
the city-living, self-defense 101 lesson:
creeps make a thousand advances if necessary
testing for a point of weakness, vulnerability
or even naive open-ness
there's a million little games people play
starting with asking for the time, just to check someone out
I have friends that teach self-defense at CAE, if any women on the board want to brush up on their skills. I think it's a 6 wk, once a week course. (My girlfriend teaches martial arts to teen girls there.)
as the first spring day brings alot of happy women wearing tank tops getting their day harshed by assholes
don't even start with me about fear or staying home or whatever
I talk to people all the time on the street, always have, always will -

Whose life story? The story of the subway jerker-offer? -

It looks like a major Hollywood studio has already beaten you to it. This upcoming movie is surely not-so-loosely based on my life story.
 I wonder who'll play the role of the Indian dude on Flatbush.
The angry Egyptian cabbie is being played by Ben Kingsley of course.

Devin,
If some guy harassed my wife for even half a block, he'd probably be holding his teeth in his hands. Men have no right to hassle women at all, they know they are not welcome, so they are violating their personal space/ rights. You really like to antagonize on this board, that's cool, but pick your battles a little wiser.
I have to add, I absolutely love your signature. That was the funniest thing I have ever read on the CH board. -

Shut up!! Why don't just take a picture of the screen with your cellphone and post it on the web?
Howdy, Stranger!
