ooo I'm only going if I get to be marky mark.
  • some browsing indicates that a half day adventure will be about $60. ...Pack you own lunch, don't bring alcohol. These trips seem to leave at 7 AM and 1 PM! ...apparently fish wake up early, or sleep in.

A rod is included for another $10.

I'm flexible on the dates, and it seems you can just show up at the boat and pay. (this avoids the problem of slackers who say they are going to show up, but don't).

So, it hereby request that the mods "Global" this fine thread to see if we can get some more participants. (let's unglobal it after a week).
  • Ok. I'll global. But seeing I'm livin' off the govmnt, even $60 might be too much for me. sadly. so I'm probably out.

However, if after this event (and the bear mountain one) we want to do a fishing in Prospect lake PLUS BBQ thread... that would be awesome. Mahina and I are planning a BBQ soon.
  • You want people to get up and be someplace by 7AM on a weekend?
  • Good idea , Mama. =D>

I say we skip the long trips and do both things combined in Prospect Park. :D/

There also seem to be 1 PM departures. You in?

This boat seems to be in the lead... http://www.seaqueenvii.com/index.htm

$45 includes cruise, rod, bait, etc.
  • I vote for afternoon departure
  • yup, afternoon it is. Half day of vomiting should be plenty, no need for a whole day..

For those of you who are too lazy to read the whole thread, here's a summary:

    We are going fishing.
On a scheduled boat that leaves from Sheepshead Bay.
On a Saturday or Sunday. It leaves at 1 PM.
You might not catch a fish.
    It will cost around $50.
You will become woozy and vomit into the Atlantic.
If you enjoy such things, it will good fun.
We are considering 7/18 or 7/19.

    What say you?
  • Can't we just do a booze cruise?
  • A booze cruise would be far more popular, shorter, more fun, at night and might involve hooking up.

Nope. I'm going fishing with guys who haven't shaved.

C'mon, you know you wanna join me. You can have fun on a boat anytime! ...let's go fishing instead.

P.S. If I get 5 other people to go with me, I'll be psyched.
  • When Carmen mentioned the Perfect Storm it was all over. God, that movie was awful (and the book was so good!). It was the only movie that made me sleep on a plane once, with headphones on, in strong turbulence. At the end of the film right before Marky Mark drowns he calls out to his movie-girlfriend "Christina, can you hear me" and I woke up screaming. Baaaad memories.

    I opt for Booze Cruise.

Perfect Storm sucked. Think Jaws with beer instead.
  • So far its just Meredith, Shake and sjknoll who seem swayed by my attractive "Vomit in the Atlantic" advertising.

...so, yea, if I don't get more interest in a few days, I'll probably rename this thread Booze Cruise and get a fish sandwich on the way there.

I knew that varying from the drinking theme was risky, but I haven't given up yet.

...C'mon Brooklynians! You want to fish!
  • whynot_31 wrote: You can't drink alcohol.
I missed this. That's kind of a deal killer dude. I like Jaws with beer better.

    Booze Cruise.
  • Actually, I just went to this boat's website and it doesn't say anything about alcohol (yea or nay). Some other boat said people couldn't, so let's assume on this boat we can drink.

...if not, we'll find a boat where we can.

I could actually call, but I'm lazy. I'll edit.

    Jaws with Beer.
  • if this can really cost more like $50 and less like $80, i am SO IN.
  • The two times I went whale watching I was told by the bartender that if you sit towards the back of the boat you're less inclined to get seasick (although admittedly you see fewer whales). Those were both catamarans, so the physics may be different for a fishing yacht. You might want to bring the dramamine anyway.
  • If the waves are so bad that you get seasick are these actually good conditions for fishing? I thought the water and the people on it had to be quiet. Then again, I'm basing my knowledge on a Walter Matthau/Jack Lemon movie.
  • Vomiting is part of the fun!

    Yes, sweet tea, around $50.

I sent the boat people an email asking them if we could have beer. (if they don't respond I'll actually call them).
  • whynot_31 wrote: Shake, how much did the adventure cost?
It cost $60 to fish bait & tackle included and the pool is $5 so $65. But you have to remember that there are a few boats out there and their prices vary. Capt. Dave is a good boat.
  • Just so you know, if you get sick they will NOT turn around.
  • know anything about the Sea Queen VII?

for example, do we want to know what happened to Sea Queens I thru VI?
  • The SQ7 is a pretty good boat, I believe they do half day trips. Actually SQ7 will take you fishing at the wrecks of SQ1-6.
  • Q: Can beer be brought on board? I'm thinking of a group of us going some
    saturday afternoon.

    WWHHEEEEE!!!!
  • I am interested as long as it doesn't interfere with Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Mrs. Rainbowthespian and I have fishing gear. Not that we're skilled- it was something we wanted to learn...
  • Excellent. We now begin the discussion of what date works best for us.

I continue to be in favor of 7/17 or 7/18, because Mrs. whynot will be away ...I need non-destructive activities.
  • the 17th is a friday? do you mean July 18th or 19th? I vote for the 18th.
