Heights Coffee

I plan on trying the iced here..
-
Each time I go they get better and better. Fixed the iced coffee thing and staff is upbeat and very responsive to suggestions/complaints. I find the coffee WAY better than Prospect Perk and Lorena's isn't even in the same league in terms of ambience or coffee, IMHO. I like the vibe and I hope they make it.
-
I just wish they stayed open later.
-
I guess I'll give them a few more chances before completely writing them off.
-
Any new business needs "ramp up" time. Like a new OS, you never install the first version.
-
Ok, I had an espresso {excellent} and an apple turnover {dismal} this am here. It's a freaking Starbucks clone! Right down to the decorations, table and chairs, same nasty pastry. I hate Starbucks, so personally, I'll be skipping this place. Good luck to them, they have a great location, etc.
-
Yeah, but it's not an international chain that serves up over-roasted beans to hide the fact that it's really just lame coffee. So... it can look like whatever for all I care, as long as the coffee's good and the money stays local.
As far as the pastries go, whatever, I go there for coffee, not croissants, but I can understand why that might bother some people, but Jesus, they just opened. I doubt they make that stuff on site. If it's really that bad, I'm sure, given time, they'll switch bakers, or perhaps, nicely telling them. Who knows. It's a bitch to walk all the way to Gorilla for a half decent coffee. This place so far has the best in the immediate radius to my end of Prospect Heights. It could look like a Chuck E. Cheese for all I care. -
Dave B, you're so optimistic about something... good going. It sounds like Heights Coffee is trying to satisfy all the coffee and pastry critics out there. Like Dave B said, they'll probably figure out a solution with the pastries and get a new supplier. What's with all the coffee anger?

lol
Beans....God...Damn...BEANS!!! AUUUGH!!! :x -
Been there a few times and am luvin' it. The space cool: good ambiance, groovy tunes, way cute and perky staff.
As for the Heights Krush - yyyyyyyuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmm
My guilt at having two a day has gone down the drain since they told me they can make it with skim anytime (and it tastes just as good)
No problemo for me with the pastries, foccacia and other snacks - keep them comin'!! I'd like to see some bagels and sandwiches (wraps?) though.
Friends, you know where to find me on weekends - kickin' back at HC! -
I'm actually there right now. While the space is nice, the staff is very friendly, the A/C and wi-fi are much-appreciated, and the iced coffee is greatly improved from the last time I tried it, the music is absolutely terrible! I'm coming with my iPod next time!

I tried Heights Coffee several days after it opened and the "barista" seemed extremely perplexed when I ordered an ice coffee. I ended up with hot coffee poured over ice. I was hoping it would be somewhere near as good a Gorilla Coffee, but it wasn't. Gorilla is worth the extra block and a half walk. I would also have to echo the sentiment that it feels kind of like a Starbucks.
Speaking of which, anyone have an estimate on how long it'll be before ProHo has its very hypermegacoffeecorp? -
I think it'll still be a while before Starbucks metastasizes to our nabe. The Gap usually comes first.

there's a starbucks in the atlantic terminal mall.

Who knew? Shows how much this neighborhood patronizes that giant cement turd.   -

I was a Half regular until the weekend-morning guy started playing techno way too loud (nothing against techno, and I actually like his selections, but it's just not the right vibe for Saturday or Sunday am). Plus his espresso drinks starting getting sloppy. As for Prospect Perk, they boil the milk beyond recognition. Hopeless.
Sorry for the anal espresso post but a bad latte can really wreck your morning--and the roof of your mouth, Prospect Perk!
Heights Coffee has been an amazing addition to Prospect Heights.
Qualitatively renovated-professional service-comforting atmosphere!
Something we can all learn from tho; anything to fast--------->won't be as enjoyable, lol...so don't be too hasty after placing your order. It's worth the extra 45seconds for a deliciously prepared beverage allowing extra time to decide which pastry suits your palette! -
Your infomercial makes you sound like you own the place, Simplystephanie. Get a different pastry supplier, currently, while I think the coffee *is* excellent, the pastries blow. How about Blue Sky? It devalues the whole experience, since I like to eat something also, most times. The atmosphere feels very corporate and that's not relaxing to me, obviously that's only my opinion.
Thank you for the great, strong coffee, however, if I'm a-needing some, I'll get it to go.. -

I was thinking the same thing.

Be careful, Steph! If you try that stunt on Chowhound they'll blacklist you and delete any post containing the name of your place! -
I appreciate everyone’s feedback regarding Heights Coffee. I love coffee houses and have spent long hours in a few neighborhood spots. Therefore, I was very surprised and completely delighted to find such a well designed coffee destination in the Heights. It is long over due and I applaud the proprietor for his vision and investment in the community. The location is perfect, the staff members are very warm and the coffee is good as well. Heights Coffee is off to an excellent start.

HA! What a perfect description. I had been calling it the Inside-Out Mall. Regardless, my cat could have designed a better building.
Oh, and I make my own coffee, although the coffee at Le Gamin isn't bad. -

This reads a bit like an advertisement. AE300, do you really feel this way, or are you promoting the business? If you really feel that strongly about Heights Coffee, then I'm glad you posted. However:
Just a quick note to everyone: These message boards are not for secret self-promotion or "stealth promotion" of local businesses. If you are an owner, employee, or a close friend/business associate of the owner, then you MUST MAKE IT KNOWN that you are affiliated with the business.
Don't get me wrong - this board is all about promoting local businesses that we, as customers, like.
If you are a business owner, employee or close friend/business associate of the owner, you are NOT prohibited from posting here - you just have to be upfront about it. OK? -

I went to HC for the first time on Friday and went back on Sunday. The coffee drinks were really reasonably priced and tasted like status quo.
I tried a raspberry apricot muffin and it was good- no fake muffiny Starbucks taste. This will probably be my new hang out. -

My cat did design a better building - we called it the Brooklyn Meowseum. Although it mainly consisted of a couple old cardboard boxes, a scratching post, and a couple grams of quality catnip, at least it had a decent food court. We eventually had to tear it down when the godless NPR-listening yuppies moved in and started jacking up the rent.... -
LOL too funny!

Could SimplyStephanie be the same Stephanie who worked(s) for Slope Heights Realtors, which moved up the street to make room for Heights Coffee (and which is also owned by the Slope Heights people from what I understand)? Her eclectic writing style (which I knew well from reading her apartment listings) sounds the same.

I just think it's a nice spot . It was my comment, I didn't think that was advertising.

And yet you continue to evade the question of whether you work there or have a financial interest in the place.

Whoa, Perry Mason. I think you missed your true calling.

IMHO I think it is so obvious when people post these "reviews" of places with unctuous, nauseatingly glowing, descriptions. A public message board is going to get these posts now and then but you'd have to be a gullible moron to believe the posts are legit. I was very surprised and completely delighted to find such a well designed coffee destination in the Heights… Give me a break  Who actually talks like that?
Howdy, Stranger!
