As for no annual membership fee when they first came to NY- that was probably a promotion. Short term. They've had their annual fees for years now.
Possible it was a promotion, but we didn't pay a membership fee for the first two years. We were one of the first to join, in fact we joined before you could even rent cars.
Well, as you've been a member for years, then certainly you know how much things have changed lately what with all the tens of thousands of members who've joined since. Cars have gotten dirtier, members have been less than respectful with the cars and each other. I heard countless stories about the good 'ole days - yes, things have changed and the members have changed. There is no longer that easy-going nature that used to exist from the company outward. Nowadays - its cut-throat, follow the rules, 3 strikes your out. Warning letters, followed by penalties, followed by termination....blah blah. -

Yeah, I guess I just miss those days. -

"an extra hour"
This isn't Baltimore.
I suggest that people return zipity zip cars on time, with gas. -
www.fuckedinparkslope.com stole this thread (AND the passive-aggressive notes one below). Guess they can't think of anything original for their blog. Waving to FIPS.

Oh yea, cause we all know that NO ONE on the internet does that. Who cares.

^well, since they are too "scurred" to post here (Their words), I think it's pretty lame

The person who has the car before you shows up 5-10 minutes late and the tank is less than 1/4. Just going to find a gas station could totally blow your time frame. For really short trips, if the tank is as full as its supposed to be, you wouldn't have planned a gas trip.
Getting the car late plus having to get gas will take up a considerable amount of your reservation. Would you call it in?
I agree with late returns being inconveniences (although 2 minutes is pushing it, I don't really think that's a big deal).
Barring that, however, wouldn't the next renter have been equally as inconvenienced if there were exactly 1/4 of the tank remaining? Along the lines of planning for delays or traffic, shouldn't one also plan for the possibility of refueling (even if it's a short trip)? What's to guarantee you don't get 1/4th tank when you pick the car up?
Attitudes aside, I don't think I would have done anything other than be slightly annoyed if I were in the family's position. -
My wife mentioned to me that we joined zip car so we can rent the car for as little as one or two hours. If we get a late start and have to fill the tank, well, why even bother renting the car for one or two hours? So basically, by entitled people acting in an entitled way and not following the rules, the next user has to plan an extra hour? No way Jose.
I want to call and complain about you too now! -

Yea, see you're missing the point of car-SHARING. Everyone takes responsibility. YOU'RE one of the entitled ones you speak of.
YOU are acting in an entitled way by saying, "shit, I only want the car for 1 or 2 hours and I don't want to have to do shit like fill up a gas tank for the next person."
Nice. You won't last long as a member. -
Whatchuwant,
You wrote, "YOU are acting in an entitled way by saying, "shit, I only want the car for 1 or 2 hours and I don't want to have to do shit like fill up a gas tank for the next person."
Well, I didn't say this or imply this.
I simply don't want to have to pick up toys after someone else who didn't pick up their own toys. Why should I have to stop at the gas station first, after already being forced to start late, because someone else acts in an entitled way?
So, you really think that is right that I have to rent the car an extra hour in anticipation of other people acting in entitled ways? Heck no. I would have called and made the complaint in front of the entitled person.
And for the record, I am the guy at the gym who cleans the equipment off after I am done using it. I don't believe in making other people have to soak in crap. -
pokersloper wrote:
Eh- you kinda did. You definitely implied it.

Because it's car SHARING- God, does no one read?!?!?pokersloper wrote: So, you really think that is right that I have to rent the car an extra hour in anticipation of other people acting in entitled ways? Heck no. I would have called and made the complaint in front of the entitled person.
I think with car-SHARING, you have to expect the unexpected- you want to rent and not have to deal with the person before or after you? Go to Enterprise.
Oh yea, on a complete tangent- you should experiment with the "quote" button. A lot less typing. 8) -
I think we have our first zip car scheduled over the weekend. I put the customer service phone number in my cell. I hope someone tries to pull the "I didn't know there was traffic in NYC" crap with me. I will rat them out so fast your head will spin. It would be fun to actually call and make a complaint in front of someone who can only say something like, "If you had kids, I would call them ugly because I don't plan my time well."
-
So, are you saying that Zip car users should ignore the terms of service and adhere to your personal ideals? Interesting.
My wife signed us up, but I am going to bet that she agreed to basic rules such as returning the car on time, keeping it clean and returning it with a certain amount of gas. Our goal is to adhere to the terms of agreement, not your personal principals.
I hope we aren't left standing outside waiting for some entitled Park Sloper to figure out that NYC has something called traffic. -

Ha! You don't read. I WORKED for them. These are SO not my personal ideals, they are the ideals of the company. When did I ever say to ignore the terms of service??? (God, I enforced them like a Nazi when I worked there, as per my job)
I hope we aren't left standing outside waiting for some entitled Park Sloper to figure out that NYC has something called traffic.
You need to read the fine print of your contract, young man- "terms of service" is the tip of the iceberg with Zipcar (one word, not two). Have fun this weekend- you won't be a member long with your attitude. -
as someone who understands that traffic exists in NYC and that agreements are agreed upon for a reason, I will do just fine.
I will enjoy zipping in my new zipper car. -
pokersloper wrote:
Yea, after you fill it up with gas.

Yea, the previous zipper will zip it full of gas or get ratted out.
-
pokersloper wrote: Yea, the previous zipper will zip it full of gas or get ratted out.
Umm, still filling it up! Oh, I can't wait to see what the person after you will say! Let us know what warning letter you receive. -
Zip zip zip, car, I can't wait to rat out the people who think there is no traffic in NYC.
-
pokersloper wrote: Zip zip zip, car, I can't wait to rat out the people who think there is no traffic in NYC.
Ah, so naive the newbies are. Just so ya know- NOT uncommon for the garage guys to go joyriding in Zipcars. Even better- they hand them off to their friends! Happens all the time- they have cards that work 24/7 and don't register on the mainframe program. So, uh, yea, rat out whoever, but know that if its dirty, has low gas or whatever, it may actually not have been the person before you. Remember- what goes around comes around- especially in Zipcarland. It's a guarantee. -
I had someone give me the zipcar 5 minutes late with a half empty tank
I didn't report him because he apologized profusely -
I am a zip car warrior and will zip with warrior strength.

THANK YOU! -
Pokersloper, just moments away from reporting those who feel entitled to be unaware that traffic exists in NYC.
-
You seem desperate, no?
-
pokersloper making the zip car call.
-
So this is what geezers do when they're too old to use facebook?
-
Sometimes we go for walks after zipping in zip car.
Howdy, Stranger!
