  • Did you happen to drink anything right before hearing them?

did they look for the % of homes on a given block that had both organic food and a stroller?

    :drunken:
  • I didn't hear anything last night, but I did hear something strange once a few months ago. Like a weird oscillating whistle. Almost like something falling, but the wrong pitch, and like I said it was variable too. Woke my girlfriend and I up in the night (read as: loud) and neither of us recognized it or could tell what it was. It lasted maybe 30+ seconds. Never heard it again.

Does it sound like the same sound?
  • Definitely sounds like UFOs.
  • sometimes people race crotch rockets on the expressway late at night, i could see that being interpreted as a ufo

could be the subway workers, using airhorns to communicate with each other (for example, x blasts means "all clear the tracks, train coming" when they work late at night).

i think they use whistles, but i dunno.
  • Hmm, like I said, we couldn't recognize the source of the sound, I don't think it was an air-horn, and I live several blocks from the subway.

That being said, it was a while ago and probably more importantly, it was the middle of the night so we were disoriented from being woken up, so I couldn't really nix anything reliably.

I am curious what the sound Yankee Fan heard was like, and if it was at all similar to the one I described. I had completely forgotten about it until this thread came up, and now I'm really curious!

whistles for the track workers, the horns are the trains themselves
