Does that make you a biracial crack addict. -
I clicked on thinking this thread was about THE Race, as in yesterday's, as in people running down Fourth Ave. Silly me.
-
Can't afford Park Slope? Welcome to the UNIVERSAL experience. Its not a black/white thing - its a GREEN thing. I wish I could live over by the promenade - but my broke ass can't afford that.

Oh my Lot 2! How I love thee and I am black.. gulp.
Bakerdrake = armchair warrier?
I had the fish at Lot 2 and it was so buttery I had to eat it slowly. Perfectly cooked. served in a broth. Mmmmm. Why haven't I gone back?
Did you ever have their cheese and honey plate? The best cheeses. They turned me on the Union Square cheese makers Cato's Corner (sp)...
Oh .. but If too many people like me find out about Lot 2 it will become a ghetto joint... bwhahahahah!  -

You seem to be using your powers for good. Carry on. -
if only there were good Wiccan shops in Brooklyn. Oh. Now there is a post/question. I am tired of going to Enchantments all the way from Brooklyn.
-
Its been a while but isn't Enchantments over on 9th Street by 2nd ave? Actually went to a hand fasting in the back which was beautiful (mead wasn't bad either). The other place is over by Christopher St. - as I remember both were a pain to get to. There is a Temple (of Eternal Light) on Ocean Avenue - a possibility. Most of my supplies now are from Long Island.

are you really druid? Do you teach classes, perhaps have a coven?
is this the right place to post this? -
On Halloween, I saw a woman come out of her apartment on 5th Ave around 14th street, and she was dressed as a traditional mormon (a la Big Love, because that's my only exposure) and she looked so damn realistic with her hair in a braid and the bump in the front, and the ill fitting plain cotton dress, and my boyfriend and I could NOT tell if she was a real traditional (of the polygamist, compound dwelling variety) mormon or did her costume just rock really hard and why didn't I think of that?
Am I being racist?
PS What makes someone troll? And enjoy it? -
Wait - I thought I moved into Park Slope to enroll my kid into PS 321?

Oh hey, I lived in the East Village for four years and I love Enchantments, but I moved to the Slope last January and it appears to be magickless. Enchantments was great for oils and candles and such, but their book selection kinda went downhill (meaning they don't have too many books anymore). -

Yes, Park Slope is mostly an upper income white neighborhood. It's kinda like how Bed Stuy is mostly an upper income black neighborhood. But so what? Everywhere you go, someone's gonna be the majority.
park slope is a upper income white neighborhood? Isn't that why you
moved here? Isn't that why you pay these outrageous prices; so you don't have to
live with a bunch of ghetto hood rats? Come on now! We all know that most black
people can't afford to live in Park Slope. That's the point of living in park slope! People just can't live where they want! So yes girlfriend there are hardly any people of color in the slope other than yourself and I. If there were your rent would be cheaper. Don't let White people fool you. They're not as nieve as they want you to think.
Also, in case you didn't know, this country is filled with poor white people who can't afford to live in Park Slope or Bed Stuy. It's not a racial thing. It's a poverty thing. -

i'm like,
a level 20 druid, so that makes me, like
a cleric almost
right? -
I wasn't sure this was "race" as far as "let's run a race" or "let's talk about race." Usually, the former on this forum works out much better than the latter.
There's a ton of underlying ugliness as to race that exists all over Brooklyn and, being a light-skinned "can pass" Latin guy living in the slope and working in BedStuy/ENY/Brownsville/etc. exposes me to a whole lot of different angles on that.
In the end, though, there are few places in this country with the richness of diversity as Park Slope. Walk the streets. You will see more interracial couples and more same-sex couples than you will see in 99.999% of this country. Spending some time in supposed liberal bastions such as Portland and San Francisco this summer reminded me of that. Their relative lack of diversity really struck me.
Pardon the pun, but black-and-white explanations of issues of class and race are so lame. This is always a much more complicated world than it appears. -
