As you can read, he admits it's a legal problem that needs to be solved by the Wisconsin legislature. As an officer of the court he is required to uphold the law. nothing more, nothing less.

Maybe armchair needs to paste the whole thing.

That's true, I didn't read this whole one b/c I read a different one earlier in the day that didn't mention the DA's defense that 'he's just trying to give a warning about the law'.

Hmm. I also read this:

"To be frank, I can't follow exactly what he's trying to get at," Geske said. "If a teacher is educating a student pursuant to state law ... I don't see how under any examination (that) could be criminal."

So perhaps it's not as simple as this innocent DA objectively applying the law? I guess it's possible a public office holder could use a legal interpretation to push his/her philosophical agenda, or that of his/her electoral base?

This situation certainly bears watching, and we'll see if it falls in with the many instances across the country where evangelical conservatives try to limit sex education in a misguided attempt to prevent teens from sexual contact.

An article you had read earlier in the day and a letter (no link available) the DA wrote on March 24th that corroborate your point. Need I remind you that you are a stickler for siting sources, in the copyright/plagiarism thread you wanted examples of copyright case law which I obliged.

What is peculiar about this whole thing is the two quotes that seem to contradict armchairs assertion the the DA wants to prosecute teachers.

I think a very strict interpretation of the law could leave some exposure for teachers. A very, very strict interpretation which in likelihood would be thrown out or completely ignored by a more liberal leaning DA, not even liberal probably even right of center!

Having said that I will admit it is likely the DA wants it both ways. A stickler for law and order and also to be popular among the typical voters that might propel him to higher office. An argument I've heard recently about DAs and AGs running for future office is that they should be prevented from doing so for at least 5 years. Something that would keep Cuomo from grandstanding in our state.
