anyone experiencing low WATER pressure?

My building has been for the last 2 weeks. On and off. I called the landlord after the chick across the hall said she had called but they would not do anything since she was the only one with a reported problem (typical of a large company). So they must have looked into it, cause I got a very cold and corporate feeling letter saying that the city was doing work and to direct all calls to the city and not the landlord in the future (they could have simply said, "we're really sorry, we tried to solve the problem but the city is responsible, please keep us posted.")
Anyway, last night there was NO water at all. We asked the neighbors, and they too had gone from a drizzle, to dry taps. Bathrooms, kitchen sinks, showers, nothing, not a drop.
My g/f called 311 when we went out to Tutta Pasta for dinner (had no water to cook with, not that we really cook though). She was on the phone with them for half an hour. When we got back, all was better. At least for now.

Also, we did not see any open fire hydrants or anything else that would account for it. 311 said we'd be top priority. That made me laugh, but the problem did get sovled within an hour.
Is that weird?

Tutta Pasta is yummy, by the way.

  • Hey, we've had low pressure as well....although, we've still had water.

    I'm pc.
  • Yeah, this morning our pressure dipped. Between that and the termite incident yesterday, I'm ready to get out!

I found out from my plumber that the city is changing water mains all along Prospect Park West.
This could be the cause of the low water pressure. I have friends on 9th street and 12th who are having the same problems.
Maybe your landlord is just as helpless as you are, since it's the city's work that is causing the problem.
He also told me that owners all along the park are installing booster pumps, which are very expensive, while the city is doing it's work in order to supply water to tenants.

Figures that the city causes the problem and the owners get blamed for something that is not in their control.

Most of the owners here are local, and very responsive to tenants needs.
To say that your owner is corporate and impersonal could be taken as a very disparaging remark.

Have you taken the time to get to know your landlord? Instead of relying on heresay, and propaganda, you should find out about them before you make assumptions. They could surprise you, and make you realize that they are human too with problems not of their making.

Also, didn't you say some disparaging things about him on the Slope site?

    HA!

Landlords have the time to write a length rant on an internet forum but they still can't change that damned lightbulb in the hall. Or, ahem...should I say Management Company Representative.

    Missy,

I am a tenant just like you. But I also know how things really are. You on the other hand, believe your own B.S.

Oh Sally, the unregistered but oft-posting guest, lay down your truth on me

The owner of my building told me point blank that I would never see him again after the ink dried and he didn't want to be bothered with any problems. As of right now he "can't be bothered" to fix a window that will not close and makes our apartment easily accessible if someone wanted to break in. The one before that sexually harrassed my roommate and bought her lingerie, and the one before that beat his kids and his wife. Great guys, really. Gotta love 'em.
  • I hate to say it, but you got stuck with a vampire, unless you're paying a below market rent and taking advantage of the rent control, rent stabilization laws.

If that's the case, then no sympathy honey. You get what you pay for.
    Welcome to life.
