  • Hi Anthony, I could easily have mixed up the songs but it was definetly Burl Ives.

Jeanette. The trees on 5th Ave you mentioned reminded me of this. I grew up at the end of the depression. A lot of people just had enough for food and maybe a few toys for the kids. Some of them would go down to 5th Ave around midnite on Christmas eve and get trees from the vendors for next to nothing or they could just take one if they waited lomg enough. The vendors did not want to lug them away and after all what could they do with Christmas trees after Christmas???????

    :santa:
  • Hi Guys, Keep getting an error message today....

    Well quick hello to everyone...

Anna - Good Luck to your daughter with her procedure.

Suzie - Hope everything is ok with your mom.

Hi to everyone...had a busy weekend.

Have to just say my BEST memory of Christmas was on Christmas Eve....me, my mom and my sisters always went to Cono the Fisherman on 86th st and 4th or 5th ave....the place was always decorated so nice for the holidays and the food was incredible....then we would eat and then walk along 86th st....there were so many people doing their last minute shopping......boy that was the best time... I was the first one to get engaged so Bobby came with us for a few years....but then the babies came and that was the end of that....but I will never forget spending Christmas eve in Brooklyn........

    Hope everyone is doing good.

    Warren - Love your stories!!!!

LOL LOL Jeanette, I was just thinking the same thing......but Christmas time always has so many wonderful memories growing up in Brooklyn....

Patsy - lucky you and the others, I don't know about the stores in ny but in nj they just don't feel like Christmas.,..they aren't even decorated that nice.

Well lets not rush the holidays too much......have to save up to start shopping...lol lol
  • hi all, hope u all had a great weekend, joe i live right by battleground and wrenrock orchards, looks like u had a great time in n.j. went to peking pavillon saturday nite, anyone know that chinese restaurant, it is really good, it is in mamanapan. if u are ever out here try it. warren your stories are great, and yes those were the days when christmas was so simple. when u got nuts, tangerines and figs in your stocking and one or two toys each and u were thrilled. and the dinners were a feast with so much food and company. it still is a feast and a lot of company but somehow it has a different feel to it. but like most of us we try and keep the traditions we grew up with for our kids sake and do all the holidays and they will hopefully have lasting memories like we have..i remember germains for our christmas, a&s for shopping and all the decorations and 5th ave. with all the lights, those were the days. my father would decorate the house that the cars would stop and come every year to see our little house....imagine people thought those were a lot of lights and decorations. now a days they would pass it right up...anyway we do have a few months to go before xmas thank god but it is nice to talk about. let's get thru thanksgiving first. my daughter-in-law was talking about making the articholds already.....lol....have a great nite all....
