    Hey all-

I wanted to say thank you for keeping everybody abreast of the situation. All the highs and lows. I think this situation pretty much blows. We called the office today and Mikalea was not taking any calls. Funny!!! We have a move in date of the Oct 2nd as well, and it's not looking good. I hope the wait will be worth it, because this is a freaking mess!
  • Just incurred my first re-delivery charge... address PMed.
  • > :( My move in date was suppose to be this Friday!!! I know we're on the same boat just needed to vent. I don't think anyone in this world knows how we all feel right now...

I don't think we're going to be able to move in until they clear all the requirements and objections. (duh, i know but...) I read in the DOB site somewhere on our building that they are "waiting for a request" from bkgold to have the building inspected. -- I think that means BK GOLD is delaying this inspection..because they didn't finish fixing all the "objections" and "requirements" are.

:( but this is only my assumption....

  • Subject: Why wouldn't we be able to get our money back?

I am just wondering if there is a way for us to get our money back for the period we were not able to move in, or just resign the lease with the actual move-in date as the starting date of lease after we move in. Is this impossible with the current law? Since there are so many people affected by the delayed move in time, we could definitely work something out.
  • I asked Michaela that question two weeks ago. She said when we move in, all of us will have to sign a new lease (or a rider. i don't remember) that states the actual Move In date.

I think everyone has got it wrong. We should be thanking the staff for using the best of their abilities to ensure that a safe living environment will be provided at an appropriate time. I read my lease you should of all read yours. I am fully prepared for 90 days of homelessness and I look forward to seeing you all in the building around Chritmas time. Should the building not be ready by then, have a Happy New Year!
  • Who else suspects that IliveInStorageUnit, a first-time poster, might be Brooklyn Gold management?

  • ILIVEINSTORAGE, your post stinks of leasing agent speak. I will address you as such. If you are prepared to live in storage than you are an idiot. A bigger ding dong than I am for signing this lease and believing that the delay would be short term. Just stop posting. It is obvious you don't belong here and are not one of us. If you were so ok with waiting 90 days you would not even be on this board. If we are stuck on the outside with a ruined holiday, ruined friendships and an empty bank account from storage, eating out and paying for transit than thanks for nothing but distress. Have a nice christmas or whatever unholy ritual you celebrate and take comfort you have participated in ruining the peace of mind of us lease holders. Yeah we read our leases and if bklln gold would ever send the executed lease I would read it again. My mistake was trusting a new York management company while dangled an awesome apartment in front of me like a bully with my text books. You should be ashamed.
If you are not a mole than sorry friend you are an idiot. If you are a mole you should learn how to "seed" a message board better and stop insulting our intelligence with patronizing form emails. Provide a real informed update or cowboy up withe the DOB and get something done.
So Merry Christmas/screw the tenant day Bucky.
I hope your present under the tree is cancer of the lease.
Don't bother replying to this as this is the only acknowledgement you will get.
  • I think ILiveinstorage was being sarcastic...
  • yeah, STAY in your storage unit!

When it happens, can you imagine what it will be like getting everyone moved in? Based upon earliest signers first, that could take weeks!
  • The day I find out they get their TCO, I am going to try to get my keys, Ill bring my things in whenever time allows. If they are going delay me weeks after their TCO date I am going to be furious. I have no problems sleeping on inflatable mattress on my floor till I can get my things in, I just need this 4-5 hours of commuting a day to stop.

In the last email I received from Michaela, she was very hopeful that I would make my lease start date, Oct 2nd. Though it looks to me thats not happening. I hope I receive some feedback from her soon. I'm sure I'll get the generic form email about delaying that date before the end of the week.

Doib, Honestly I think we should keep this public, if there are any other perspective tenants out there, they need to know. Not to mention that certain media outlets are now reading this thread as a number of the ones I spoke to plan on writing articles about this situation. (Though please cc me on the email list, my email is my username on this forum @gmail.com) Michaela and the Bkln Gold staff read this regularly and I hope they realize the inconvenience they are causing people. Yes it isn't their fault directly, but some honesty in the situation would be greatly appreciated. I don't appreciate being told "we are close" or "the TCO is imminent", I would much rather have them tell me, "We don't have a TCO yet, and it is indefinite as to when we will receive it." To be honest if this goes the 3 months necessary to back out, I am gone and I am sure others will be too.

Also, has anyone visited the building during the work day? I haven't had a chance to myself, and personally, have never seen anyone actually working on the building. What make me nervous is that no work was completed or progress shown from from the day I checked out the apartment, till the day I signed my lease, about 2 weeks. Has anyone seen work being done? I will try to pay a surprise visit at lunch one day this week and see if work is actually being done.
  • I definitely think we should keep this board going, for the reasons you stated. But I think people feel uncomfortable about sharing some information in a public forum like this. So doing both is the best option, I think.
  • Agreed, I think we've laid the ground work for forming a tenants association for the building. I nominate you the president/ambassador.
  • Subject: for what it's worth, thanks

I just want to say that - for whatever it's worth - you have done a service to the community (or at least, to prospective Brooklyn Gold renters) by airing your grievances on here. I was considering moving there (still looking for a place), but googled the building and this was one of the top results. I've read every post over the past few days, and now there is no way I would rent from that building or management company, ever. I've also told several friends about the building's screw-ups, as well.

I know it doesn't help you all very much with your housing situations, but sharing your experiences is allowing others to avoid this building. So if you do decide to go an email chain, please post at your convenience to let other prospective renters know about the situation and any possible resolution(s).

Thanks to you all, and godspeed - if I could, I'll send some serious, high-alcohol beers your way.

(Also, have any of you reached out to some of the more popular Brooklyn or real estate blogs out there, like Curbed or Brownstoner?)
  • it says after 90 days we can cancel the lease...but it also says we have to let them know 30 days in advance...does that mean ...120 days then I can get out of this lease?
  • Bad news, M Said owner has an appointment with DOB to "finalize" the application Oct 4th. And "suggest" me to delay my lease for another week(it was this Monday).

Suggest? Aye, as like I have other option.
  • What happened to today's supposed appointment?
  • Apparently it was an appointment to set up another appointment to confirm.
  • The very best kind of appointment.
  • I am in the same boat. My lease was supposed to start on Sept 15th. On the 14th I received an email from Michaela telling me that we wouldn't be able to move in yet, but that she hoped to get the final approval from the DoB any day. That's all I've gotten from her. Every time I email she tells me that she doesn't have any new information and that she hopes to get the approval any day now. What other steps have people taken? Is there something else that we should all do?
  • Ooo, I just got an email to make a reservation for the elevator use the week of Oct 15.th

did any one get the same email?
  • No did not get such an email. Please explain further. Oh and WTF?
  • The email says up to Oct. 15. I'm pretty sure that's the latest day you can reserve at this point.
  • yeah ure right. "Up to oct 15th."
  • Hi guys, I've been a silent follower for some time, now stepping out of the shadows at this pre-dawn hour. First, big thanks to those who have aggressively followed up with the boro president's office, housing dept, etc to try to apply pressure to expedite this and hold somebody accountable. I've been inconvenienced by the delay and feel your pain, although some of you are really suffering. Hopefully the "final meeting" will really be final and "occupancy approvals should be forthcoming early next week" will really be next week and not next month (November).

I will also say that I think place is going to be great once we're allowed inside. I really had my doubts before I visited, but to those who summarily dumped it because of the strange location or faults of management I wish you luck finding a better deal with better amenities one or two stops away from Manhattan and from a rainbow of subway lines.

I know it's NY and we're not supposed to know our neighbors, but I took the liberty of creating a FB group because I couldn't find one and in this day and age, well, it just had to be done. 277 Gold has one and now 257 Gold has one, too.

Let's keep all this pre and perhaps post move anonymous angst over here and once we're moved in discuss tenant stuff over there. Being a (freelance) event planner I'll organize something in a few weeks and use that gift card to start a tab at the nearest bar (j/k).
