  • BTW, does anyone have a move in time yet. Also in reply to the the cable set up- I know we can set up Verizon.
  • I called Con-Ed and again they said I can't set up new account because theres no meters.
did anyboday else have called them?
and why will it take 2 weeks for time Warner to have service in the building ?!?!?!?
  • If you can, make sure you use a professional insured moving company as most new buildings require it.

Also to bring up another urban fear. I had friends that used cut rate, 3 guys in a van type of movers.

As a result, they got unwanted vermin in their stuff when they moved into their new house. No guarantees that will prevent anything but it cannot hurt the chances.

I will let you fill in the blanks on that one.

Really? In all the times i have moved and all of the 3 man with a van groups I have hired, this comes as a surprise. I have had nothing but fantastic service.

It sounds like it was a problem with one company and not with small guy companies. It sounds like people just need to research before hiring--one review from your friend is enough to make me look for someone else.
  • I moved in yesterday.

To set up con ed we will have to wait. BKGOLD will email us for the meter# .

For those that set up Verizon Fios...Did you give them your SS#?
  • So how was I able to setup ConEd? Maybe the guy I talked to didn't realize there was a problem? He never asked me for a meter number. You do have electricity, right?

I signed up for FIOS--can't remember if I gave SS#. FIOS is supposed to be a lot better than TWC and the packages seem cheaper--I think my cable + Internet is $69.99/month for the first six months.
  • Just curious... do you have any idea what the combined cost will be after the first 6 months?
  • But I heard Verizon Internet service is bad. is that true?
  • Kapara wrote: But I heard Verizon Internet service is bad. is that true?
I only used their dsl, 1mbps. Not stable, very slow at night.

Wondering anyone use Internet only like me. I don't watch tv for years.
  • Kapara wrote: But I heard Verizon Internet service is bad. is that true?
FIOS is just about the fastest Internet connection you can get. It's a huge perk to live in a building wired for Verizon FIOS (it's fiber optic, so even in NYC lots of buildings can't get it).

Edit: Yeah, according to PCMag.com, FIOS is the fastest Internet connection in the U.S.

I think it goes up to $90/month after the first six months, but I'm not positive. It was still significantly cheaper than what I used to pay for Time Warner in a different state.

Congratulating! I am gonna movein this weekend. How is everything going on? Laundry room/gym/rooftop ready?
  • Gym isn't ready yet. Roof not ready yet. Laundry is ready :D they're expecting the gym to be done in two weeks.

I'm actually doing the "big move" on Friday. I've been sleepin on my aerobed lol

HEYYYY how'd you get 69.99/m for the first 6 months? did you go through that guy jimmy? cause when i was trying to order it online it was $84.99/m first month. then 90+ after. :(

Yeah, same boat, for high speed net, premium channels, 2 hd boxes, 1 dvr was like 100+ a month for the first 3 months, and 134 a month after the discounts expire.
  • I think 69.99 is the price without any boxes. I only got one box, no DVR, no premium channels, so I think all together it is like $75 or $80.
  • Anyone hear that beeping?
  • Dr. Quartermass wrote: Anyone hear that beeping?
Yeah, that beeping noise is probably from the fire alarm--low battery. That's what happened when I first walked into my own APT. I had to have them change the batteries.
  • Yeah, when they enable the fire alarms, a little yellow strip needs to be removed to stop the beeping.

Some problems we have had so far. Our washing machine did not have the "safety bolts removed" from the damper, and decide to take a walk. We came home, our laundry detergents were all over the floor, and the machine was moved like 2 feet.

Also, our toilet paper holder was installed way too close to the toilet, I'm a tall guy, this made using the toilet almost impossible. Both were fixed by the friendly super.

All in all, the equipment and materials are top notch, Kohler, GE, Asko, but the construction is anything but. Our floor was improperly coated, some places left un-polyed, not to mention it has more waves in it than the Bearing Sea. The counter tops have chips in it, there are dents in the sheet rock, over paint is everywhere, and whomever was given a caulking gun to "seal" all the edges should be brought out back and hung. I have made sure to document all these issue, so when they try to give me a hard time about giving my security deposit back, I will have recourse. If I had to rate the construction quality for 1-10, it would be a 2 at best, it looks sloppy, lackluster, amateur and rushed.

Any word on when the pool and gym are opening?

What do you mean the gym isn't ready? Are we not able to use the one that was shown upon the lease signing? I noticed people working out both times I visited.

    Any word on the pool?
  • Well, I replied back when it was my 2nd day there. so maybe around that time we're not permitted? Right now I'm not sure. I remember the 2nd day I moved in, the super told me about two weeks. I've only been here for 1 week. He said we are allowed to go to the one at 277 Gold street. I'll check on that i'll let you know. As far as the pool, I'm almost positive that we're not allowed to use it yet.

This past week, I haven't seen anyone use the gym yet. If you know any information about that, get back to me cause I too want to hit up the gym.

    :) thanks!

You're definitely right about the quality. I spoke to the super and he said to definitely file it and make sure he signs it. Otherwise it will not be filed or it will be filed without a signature. I showed him the four holes that was next to the toilet paper holder.--I was also worried about the security deposit. so Be sure he signs the paper guys!
  • He told me "not to worry", but I am going to put together a sheet tonight and have him sign it tomorrow.
  • Yeah better be safe than sorry. :)
  • I need to document these things too...I had construction pencil ALL over my kitchen counters which took FOREVER to scrub off! A lot of scratches on the floor, cabinets...and wait you guys have a toilet paper holder?????
  • Problems and growing persons aside. I am digging my pad.
  • I'm not happy about none of the amenities being done but I'm happy with the apartment. The building is going to be amazing when it's done. I believe if the amenities drag on that we should get a discounts. Apartment is great though! :D
  • yeah, the apt is definitely growing on me!!
  • I am used to the beeping now. god help me.
  • So for those who have already moved in, how do people like the area? I currently live in the Financial District in Manhattan and am considering on checking out this building but have never lived in Brooklyn. How's the neighborhood?
  • Still getting familiar but it seems good so far, looking forward to vinegar hill and pigging out at Bubby's.
