  • Hello, new to the forum.

Considering renting at Brooklyn Gold and was curious how well the walls are insulated -- I've found that in some newer developments walls can be very thin -- how has that been for those who are already there?

Or is it all unclear since the building isn't fully occupied?

Also, do you already know which grocery store (and any other stores) that will be opening in the building?

Last, are they offering any months free?

    Thank you for any information,

    TB

  • I woke up this morning to find little bites all over my ankles. I am not sure but I think this place has bed bugs!!!!! I think someone might of brought some infested furniture in the building. I am freaking the F out!!! I made an appointment to see my Dr. for Wed. Does anyone else out there have this problem?? Hit me back if you think you might. Once bed bugs get in the building it's hard to get them evicted!!! I am hoping that I can break my lease soon. Thought this place would rock with the roof deck but from the looks of it no amenities are getting done in time. They keep on taking sh*t away from us. No lounge? No pool? No roof? Someone in the building told me that he was getting out of his lease since he caused enough ruckous with management. Those people are also a bunch of jokes - they messed up my lease 3 times!! I had to keep coming back in to sign riders. That old bag is senile and can't keep her numbers straight.. SO frustrated. By the way Tbeckeroo don't DO IT. THE neighborhood is sketch there's a women's shelter for drug addicts and homeless people across the street and the real deal projects are right around the corner if you are looking to get mugged raped or worst then rent at bklyn gold..

  • WillJackson, how long have you lived at Brooklyn Gold?

  • OMG YOURE NOT THE ONLY ONE!! Just last week i got bit ALL OVER MY SHOULDER AND NECK AND MY CHIN!

I TOO AM FREAKING OUT. Should we report this to Management?!

  • OK.. IF anyone has or thinks they have a problem with Bed bugs, report it immediately to management and you should inform your neighbors so it can be contained. Management should call an exterminator to do and inspection of your unit.

    BUT REPORT IT.

Do your home work. Are these bites happening every night? are they in a three or 4 bite pattern?

I broke out with bumps and allergic reactions in my first week and it was due to the construction dust that was all over my unit. once i vacuumed and mopped up i was ok.

There are many ways to prevent this from happening.

Do you take furniture off the street or not wash new clothes immediately when you bring them into your apartment?

Did you have stuff in storage or use a bargain price, non bonded moving company?

    Again, do your homework.

Go to bedbugger.com and especially this site:

    http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/vector/vector-faq1.shtml

for info. do not go to just Google the term "bed bugs". You will never sleep again if you do that, trust me.

Considering the situation in the city, the fact that people had to store belongings in storage for prior to moving etc. it is a very real problem that could happen in our building. So we need be aware and combat it.

Report, communicate and don't post fear mongering posts unless you are absolutely sure. and even then be cool about it, this is a high tension topic as it is.

    but yeah report it bumblebee.

  • Will Jackson, what is your story? any update now that you have opened this can of worms?

  • Will, if this is true, YOUR apartment has bed bugs, not the entire building. Yes, the possibility for them to spread is there, but only if not contained. I doubt they will allow you to break a lease over that. I also had a reaction to the construction dust, apparently gypsum dust is both a skin and lung irritant. It would be appreciated if you comment as to what was the cause, your lack of reply make me believe it wasn't actually bed bugs.

I have heard from a credible source that the construction (contractor) staff was recently let go. This will obviously cause severe delays on the amenities that were promised. Has anyone seen anyone working on the building besides the super and his staff, no. I still contend that we should put together a renters association and start making lots of noise. Either that, or we go over to 277 and start using their amenities, I bet they would not be to fond of that.

Our apartment is growing on us, but that's more a product of furnishing. Our floor is warping more and more by the day, leading me to believe there is an issue with the sub floor, or worse, the slab below it.

  • Any update on the bed bug situation????

  • I visited the building multiple times and in process of leasing application. I don't trust their agents at all, especially Michaela. They change what they've said and compared to other buildings I've visited, the leasing agents for Bklyn Gold suck. I'm actually considering not signing lease because the agents but especially Michaela is a incapable and misleading person. May even follow up with real estate agent complaint with NYS DOS.

  • I would seriously advise anyone looking into this building to make sure your current landlord will go month to month on your lease. Certificate of Occupancy is always delayed in all BKLYN GOLD buildings and they are notorious (and have a LOOOONG history of practicing business this time) for signing leases and taking deposits and making you wait and wait. One google search will reveal it.

  • After reviewing the HPD site, yes there were bed bugs.

Click on the "all open violations tab.

  • Reading this thread is hugely frightening. I was thinking of moving into a 1BR at BKLYN GOLD but now am having serious second thoughts. Have things improved w/ the management company since everyone got screwed over last summer?

  • Can anyone who lives / has lived in this building confirm that it's no longer a total nightmare for residents?

Comparing this building against a couple others in FT Greene and Williamsburg. Target move-in Sept 1.

  • Ok no love but I found this here where at least over the summer the move-in process was still less than ideal:

This Brooklyn Gold Apartment reviewer says "...the move-in process was a total nightmare. Lost forms, moving dates pushed back months..."

Still, BKG seems preferable given this Brooklyner apartment review: "The surrounding stores and restaurants/bars leave a lot to be desired. You would have to go to smith st which is a hike. Ordering food doesn't give you a ton of options."

    No thanks.

I'm on month-to-month, still plotting my move. Anyone on here lived in either of these buildings and actually have a current (i.e. more recent than July) opinion?

  • it's funny reading through a lot of these posts. these people kinda just seem mad at the world. ugh. get a life! and a lot of these posts are like 2 years old. jeez. is there no like system here where the most recent reviews are the first ones?

ive been in the bldg now about 9 months. there were a couple of issues when the bldg first opened up, but nothing that wasn't handled or addressed. it's like with anything new, things are going to happen. remember the iphone 4 and the atenna problems?

brooklyn gold is a pretty chill place. you get all these amenities free. yes, free. they don't charge you anything. there's a pool. huge gym thats usually empty. a rf deck. and a lounge that you can reserve for free. ive seen people using it for parties and stuff.

the actual apts are pretty nice. they are like brand new, so you don't have to worry about things breaking every five mins. or being cold because the heat doesn't work.

anyways, you got like every subway that exists in nyc. acf are the closest. but you also have the b, the q, the r at dekalb. and a little further, at nevins, there's the 4,5,2,3 trains. i used to live in williamsburg and ******* hated the L and the G. the biggest BS trains in the world. but here, if one trains down, you got like 5 other options.

the rents are super deals. they give you free months to sign up. me and my girlfriend saw a lot of crap. but when the broker brought us here and told us the pricing, at first we thought it was a scam. it's like, how can you get all of these amenities and brand new apts for that low?! and look the apts all come with washers and dryers in them and dishwashers and everythings new! that's the best part.

anyone who bad mouths this building probably has mommy and daddy paying for everything and has never ever lived in NYC. but if your looking for an awesome place to live check it out!
