Dear asshole with a car on lincoln around 7th...

YOUR STUPID CAR ALARM HAS GONE OFF NO LESS THAN 7 TIMES THIS MORNING JUST WHEN I HAVE BEEN HOME. I WAS FORCED TO GET UP AT 6AM BECAUSE IT WENT OFF EVERY SINGLE TIME A DAMN CAR WENT BY FROM THE HOURS OF 2AM ON- I LEFT THE HOUSE FOR 3 HOURS AND CAME BACK AND IT HAS GONE OFF 4 ADDITIONAL TIMES SINCE THEN.

for the love of god please shut that shit off. its not even 11AM and its parked somewhere near me- I'm going to try to take a nap (IE continue sleeping in) and if it goes off again, I am inclined to go down there and pee on your windshield.

have some respect for your neighbors people. this is so irritating

    Call 311.
  • On my block we throw eggs at such cars. But you might also want to leave a note on the windshield.
  • leave a note and hope the person gets it. if they dont get it egg it next time.
  • i'll leave a note..when I pee on the windshield. and it will be my original post to this thread

no im not that mean. its just annoying because you KNOW this person must have known the alarm is sensitive, it is THEIR CAR after all.
  • just leave a note and hope they don't live on your block, to plague you forever with the @#$@!* honking alarm.

And please, can we all agree *not* to post here every time an unattended car alarm annoys us? Carmen, you must have just moved here . . . welcome to NYC. Noise complaints are #1 over at 311.

Not necessarily. My car did this once and only once. I have no idea why. Somebody left me a note. I don't know who, or I would have apologized. I must not have been home, because if I hear an alarm that sounds like mine, I check to make sure it isn't.

    Here's a ghastly thought . . .
how do you know it only happened once? Sure you got a note once, but mostly people are just annoyed by car alarms, not bothering to egg the car or leave a note.

thats very true, i say i'll egged cars etc.. but in realty i'm way too lazy to do anything about it.

and most people are the same way.

You're right. I don't truly know, but let's say "once that I know of in 9 years and I'm pretty conscious of checking alarms to make sure that they're not mine....and my car chirps with a different sound if my alarm has gone off since I enabled it last".

ah, cut the kid some slack, I've sure as shit had to read a LOT of annoying bullshit on here (hence my hiatus of recent) I dont mind if Carmen comes here to let off some neighborhood steam. At least she didnt come here to post a complaint about a car alarm in New Jersey.....

    Call 311.

This has been rehashed, somewhat endlessly, on the PH board, but what you're saying here just isn't true. Every time I've called 311 about a car alarm (okay, only two or three times), I've been told (by different people) that they can't do ANYTHING and that I should call 911. 311 is for things that a city department can do something about sometime, like if someone had an air-conditioner that was constantly running louder than the law allows--they could send somebody out next Tuesday and it would still be happening.

But for something happening right now, especially after hours, you should call 911. After getting the "just call 911" spiel twice, I tried it once, and the 911 dispatcher was perfectly pleasant and certainly did not tell me that I shouldn't have called. If you feel guilty about calling 911, call the precinct or just sit and listen to the alarm, but calling 311 isn't going to do much good and telling other people that they shouldn't call 911 isn't helpful either. I'm not advocating that people call 911 every day, but if once every six months some jackass's alarm keeps you up all night, just. call. 911.

Well, I've seen the opposite. People I know have called 911 and have been told that it's for emergencies only. In fact, when they answer the phone they say "what is your emergency?".

Perhaps the precinct directly is the better option.
  • I'd go with the eggs AND a note (so the owner knows it wasn't a random act of vandalism).

There's just no excuse for car alarms. They don't work as a deterrant. They only piss people off.
  • ^thats exactly what my (less grumpy-post nap) self was saying to my boyfriend earlier. Its not like I jumped up and thought OMG let me go scare the thief from that vehicle!

Ha! If I actually saw a thief stealing a car when the alarm was going off, I'd be like, "You go girl! Show that bastard!"
  • Call the cops next time.

Rudy Giuliani would have had the owner of this car alarm shot.

Had I been jolted awake by this horrid noise at 5 AM, I might throw a brick at the car before remembering to call the cops.
  • Subject: Car alarms

And what about those horns that honk when the owner locks the door using the remote? It always seems to happen when I'm standing squarely in the blast zone, and I'm all duck-and-cover!! every time.
  • Subject: Perhaps 911

Well, if the alarm is going off, perhaps you 911 is the best, after all it is an ALARM and it might be being stolen!

Seriously, I think you should be allowed to egg a car any time a car alarm goes off and it should be mandatory when someone honks their horn. You think the city would just take all that extra revenue by ticketing people for these things (just like all the double parked cars on street-cleaning days)

I've called 311 a number of times for annoying car alarms - as soon as you say you're calling for a car alarm, the operator calls 911, and transfers you to the 911 operator.
  • well i stayed with the bf last night in greenpoint, and when I got home I heard that shit go off AGAIN. so if its going off tonight the fuzz will be called. yes maam it will.
  • just call the po po on their dumb asses. hope they give em a ticket for noise pollution.

    Torch it.
  • Rose wrote: On my block we throw eggs at such cars. But you might also want to leave a note on the windshield.
Did some one say eggs? Now we're talking!

Tossing eggs is much easier than going through the trouble of finding pen and paper and writing a note that will be blown away by the wind and never read.

Eggs. Eggs. Eggs. Eggs. Eggs. Eggs. Eggs. Eggs. Eggs. Eggs. Eggs. Eggs.

Aren't alarms made for emergencies? 911.
  • it has always mystified me that car alarms are legal in NYC. i say we should just ban 'em.
