Not necessarily. My car did this once and only once. I have no idea why. Somebody left me a note. I don't know who, or I would have apologized. I must not have been home, because if I hear an alarm that sounds like mine, I check to make sure it isn't.

how do you know it only happened once? Sure you got a note once, but mostly people are just annoyed by car alarms, not bothering to egg the car or leave a note.

thats very true, i say i'll egged cars etc.. but in realty i'm way too lazy to do anything about it.

and most people are the same way.

ah, cut the kid some slack, I've sure as shit had to read a LOT of annoying bullshit on here (hence my hiatus of recent) I dont mind if Carmen comes here to let off some neighborhood steam. At least she didnt come here to post a complaint about a car alarm in New Jersey.....

This has been rehashed, somewhat endlessly, on the PH board, but what you're saying here just isn't true. Every time I've called 311 about a car alarm (okay, only two or three times), I've been told (by different people) that they can't do ANYTHING and that I should call 911. 311 is for things that a city department can do something about sometime, like if someone had an air-conditioner that was constantly running louder than the law allows--they could send somebody out next Tuesday and it would still be happening.

But for something happening right now, especially after hours, you should call 911. After getting the "just call 911" spiel twice, I tried it once, and the 911 dispatcher was perfectly pleasant and certainly did not tell me that I shouldn't have called. If you feel guilty about calling 911, call the precinct or just sit and listen to the alarm, but calling 311 isn't going to do much good and telling other people that they shouldn't call 911 isn't helpful either. I'm not advocating that people call 911 every day, but if once every six months some jackass's alarm keeps you up all night, just. call. 911.


Well, I've seen the opposite. People I know have called 911 and have been told that it's for emergencies only. In fact, when they answer the phone they say "what is your emergency?".

Perhaps the precinct directly is the better option.

Seriously, I think you should be allowed to egg a car any time a car alarm goes off and it should be mandatory when someone honks their horn. You think the city would just take all that extra revenue by ticketing people for these things (just like all the double parked cars on street-cleaning days)

I've called 311 a number of times for annoying car alarms - as soon as you say you're calling for a car alarm, the operator calls 911, and transfers you to the 911 operator.

Aren't alarms made for emergencies? 911.
