Satellite on EP? — Brooklynian

Satellite on EP?

There is a crane with a satellite dish on EP across from the museum. Engineer overseeing street construction said the mayor had it put there for the West Indian Day Parade. Seems bizarre. For news outlets to share on Labor Day?

  • Verizon installed a temporary cell site for the parade.

  • I think brownie is wondering about the satellite dish truck that is next to the Verizon temporary cell site truck.

  • How do you think the calls go to/from the temporary tower?

  • hmmm.

How do they go to and from regular cell phone towers? I have not noticed satellite dishes near permanent towers.

Readers: the satellite dish is on top of the crane, but I wanted a shot that also showed the museum roof.

  • This might be a temporary relay to another celltower, or just a satellite hookup. Eventually, every cell call needs to travel on a non-cell network, and I think regular towers have a permanent land-line connection.

  • Permanent towers use hardlines back to "Ma Bell" or they relay it via microwave where there is no access to a suitable hardline.

  • that makes sense.
