Tiring, Mama.
But you always rock this board.
Now where is the good Dr? -
i think he is waiting until we get closer to the 600th post so he can turn over the page for us.
what do you think, sweet tea? -
Not sweet tea, but it is plausible. However, I think the good dr has bowed out of this thread. Only the evil dr remains!
Right, alafairnadia? -
Ah-ha! How right you are, Carnivore! It is I, Evil Doctor, at your service!
For instance, epidemiological data is often presented in a misleading manner. For instance, if exposure to chemical A increases 2-fold your likelihood of acquiring cancer B, does it really make any difference to you if your odds of acquiring cancer B in the absence of exposure to chemical A were 1 in 10 million? Not really. It would represent a jump from 250 cases per year in this country without exposure, to 500 with (again, assuming the effect is real). On the other hand, if the incidence is already 1 in 1000 and there is a doubling, that's an increase from 250,000 per year to 500,000 in this country. Clearly the latter result is the more relevant to your and the public's health.
Too heady for you? I am an Evil Doctor of many talents. How about the following topic, instead...
Modern jurisprudence and philosophy of law is dominated today primarily by Western academics. The ideas of the Western legal tradition have become so pervasive throughout the world that it is tempting to see them as universal. Historically, however, many philosophers from other traditions have discussed the same questions, from Islamic scholars to the ancient Greeks.
I am, as always, your evil servant. Ah-ha!!

i can tell you're evil -- non-evil doctorj would never begin two sentences in a row with "for instance".

Shishkab seems to be on break....but I'll agree; "for instance" is suspect.
