Hmmm...I had no idea there was "emo" pre crappy emo. Ya learn something every day.
PS: I have a soft spot for stars and if I had tattoos I'm sure that would've been high on the list. And there's nothing EMO 'bout me. Unless you are referring to the late, great SDRE. Now, THAT was emo, not the third-rate, watered-down poser-riddled crap you hear these days. You could say that emo went form being The Cure-on-steroids to Air Supply with distorted-guitars, spiky hairdos, and some of the whiniest, lamest lyrical content heard in recent times. Bleech! -
Wow, what a thread.
As a native to Park Slope (FYI: They use to call us Slope'es), everyone on this thread fits in perfectly to the complex social web of Brooklyn. Its really great to see the conflict within and without, and discussion. Ah.
As for who's Brooklyn Park Slope it is, I guess it looks like there is room for the hipsters and the gangsters, and everyone in-between.
As for 'thugs' ... well, the term is loaded for sure, but it is not necessary to state the obvious. Be nice! Be nice, until its time not to be nice.
Rest assured, Brooklyn will take care of itself.

I was born in Washington Hts but thanks for welcoming us to your native land. Cheers! -
Yeah, sadly enough, I almost made Bingo as well. But, I didn't. That made me strangely happy. But that is only because I am not an Uber-hot asian male. Damn. And I don't own Pumas. And, I am not attracted to boys in skinny pants. Hooray for that. I guess.

Since there's no meaningful way of answering this question, one might as well shut the fuck up. -

Seconded. I know why some don't want to register, but the Gawker deluge always results in a trainwreck.
Wait... is it that we like the trainwrecks?

If those nasty posts from the Gawker sheep weren't enough to consider closing off the board to the unregistered, then the REALLY F'D UP ones from last night should be able to seal the deal. No?

aren't hipsters just a bunch of dorky losers without fashion sense? i hate the way these clowns dress. It makes me cringe. I hope park slope never becomes a williamburg type neighborhood. Yuck!

Apart from the one who wants to discuss Wittgenstein in connection with subgenres of bar-goers. He/she can stay.
I'm betting the OP was from Gawker; does his/her IP match any of our recent guests? -

Apart from the Livestrong bracelet--which I happen to wear, having lost both my favorite aunt and a dear friend to breast cancer--I think it's spot-on.

Many of them--the property owners in Boerum Hill--sold and left, unlike many of the italian families in Carroll Gardens. The rest? Good question. -
MK said I missed some post about how I/we should get a life and get out or something? Kinda ironic that they were here posting that while I was out with my incredibly hot husband, and hot friends (MK included), while being served by a hot bartender.

Touche, C.
Oh, it's true: all the beautiful, smart, talented ones are taken. But it's really nice to hang with them.
Too bad that bitter poster can't even do that!

Parkslope95 wrote: I'm the original poster. And first, I'm not from the midwest, I'm from NYC. And because it makes someone cringe doesn't mean my statement is inaccurate, it's just kind of a bummer. That is to say, blacks and latinos don't scare me, and I'm not a "sheltered sloper." But the truth is, and ask any cop willing to be honest instead of politically correct, that bars packed with young black men, disproportionately have more problems. More fights, more calls to 911 regarding guns, etc. You know why? Because they really do disproportionately have more fights, pull out more guns, etc. And that's the crowd that is in Royale now. Listen, I could talk all day about our racist society and how because of that we ended up with a whole slew of insecure black men who look for their self-esteem in guns, fights and pit bulls. But that doesn't change that what I said is accurate. We have just been taught to cringe at statements like mine because we don't want to believe it's pretty accurate.
Every stop to think there's a reason why the cops are always called when young black and hispanic men gather? You want to see bar fights...go visit some of your white hipster friends in the lower east side or williamsburg. i worked the bars in both of those hoods for years. When white people get wasted and stumble through the street, snort coke, smoke pot, fight, cuss and scream at eachother at 5am it's just good clean fun. When people of color do it - someone calls the cops or better yet there waiting outside to begin with. Hell I've even seenwhite guys stumble out of bars, high as a kite with a bloddy face and not only leae without having to deal with the cops, but then HAVE A CAB STOP FOR THEM. Maybe you should pull your greasy hipster bangs out your face so you recognize your own privelage....there's a reason why things are the way they are you fool. I've partied with black people for many years - Never Been Shot!
And by the way a bar with Indie Rock Bands in BK...oooooh really keeeewwwll!! lol
