  • Subject: Inaugural

Would this be the same as the Bed/Stuy INAUGURAL Pet Show?

I know "first annual" is a commonly accepted phrase but the word you're looking for is inaugural.

    Check it out.

    Main Entry:1in·au·gu·ral
    Pronunciation:i-'no-gy&-r&l, -g(&-)r&l
    Function:adjective
1 : of or relating to an inauguration
    2 : marking a beginning : first in a projected series

    It's a pet peeve.

    No pun intended.
  • Uh, okay. Well, if you really feel that compelled to be anal retentive and correct 'em, at least do it in a congenial way.

  • ...and after pondering it for a few seconds, what's wrong with 'first annual'? It feels kind of silly, but if the intent is that it's going to happen once a year, it's certainly more precise than 'inaugural.' 'Inaugural' may specify that it's the first in a series, but it doesn't communicate anything about how frequently it's going to occur, whereas 'first annual' does both nicely.

But back on topic - this is my dog. Her special talent... uhhhh... she makes other dogs seem delightful and trouble-free? ...she can eat endlessly and not get fat?

I actually thought I was correcting them in quite a congenial way.

The ad hominem arguments are in your postings. Not mine.
