  • A lounge is generally a place with lots of seating and couches. More intimate, quiet setting, quieter music, more of a chill vibe, people are more likely kicking back and relaxing. A club has a lot of room to dance, louder music and more dancing and mingling going on. They are most definitely not the same.

I want to check it out. There are not many bars, and it might be quite nice.

I agree with the recommendation to communicate with the owners. It will probably help.

Lounges tend to be quieter, with more sitting room, relaxed atmosphere, and generally speciality drinks. Clubs are for dancing mainly with a bigger dancefloor area and louder music.

    Thank you!

i haven't logged into this site since my second post, but i have to say, having read the definitions of club/lounge and listening to the noise generated by the Jalani establishment, i would definitely say that it is a club.

councilwoman james has been very helpful, and extremely receptive, in getting the owners to understand that they need to be good neighbors. i would urge anyone who is bothered by the noise to email her, as myself and my neighbor did. she responded within 12 hours. you can find her email address online.

i've found that the noise is somewhat better--though tonight it's awful and i am afraid for the rest of the summer.

i have a busy life and work out of my home (often at night). i don't see why the apartment that i've lived in for 5 years should be overtaken on thursday through saturday nights by music from outside.
  • I just moved in to an apartment next door to Jelani Lounge and was kept up all Friday night. If there are other neighbors who would like to meet to discuss possible solutions to the noise problem, let me know so we can arrange a time and place. Talk to your neighbors to see who else is being affected. I too am very scared about the rest of the summer - and year - because I can't function on 2 hours of sleep 4 days a week.
  • Have any of the aggrieved neighbors tried to talk to the owners? I wonder if they're receptive in any way or if it's going to be a tough fight for you guys.

    I feel your pain.
  • You should go to the next meeting and stop complaining on this board.
