  • Hey, I unstickied this because it had been more than two weeks since the last update, but did these kitties get adopted? If not, I can re-sticky -- just please remember to update us every couple of weeks!
  • They're still with me, I got an email from someone yesterday about Trixie. He must have seen one of the flyers put up before I realized the girls couldn't be separated. I emailed him explaining that and included lots of pictures of the 2 of them together but haven't heard back yet. I'm hoping that after kitten season is over that they'll have more of a chance at getting adopted.

I may have mentioned this before but when I saw my cats and dogs I knew almost immediately that they were meant to be with me. Each cat I've fostered though I knew they were meant to be with someone else. I feel the same about Alice and Trixie even though I've had them for almost 4 months. They're doing really well with me but are still "separate" from the rest of my brood. I've accepted that I may have them for a long time but that's okay. I feel that the right family is out there somewhere and I just have to find them. Until then the girls are a pleasure to have around.
  • Still got 'em! The only person who has contacted me was a woman who owns a pet store on Coney Island Avenue. She called me last Thursday, she wanted mousers for her store before the weekend since she was going away. She told me the cats would alone alot and that's why she wanted 2, so they could keep each other company. I told her I didn't think A & T would like that very much and suggested she try Animal Care & Control. She said she normally would but she wanted the cats by the weekend. Didn't happen.

Anyway, I remembered something Q told me when I went to pick the girls up. He said that Alice used to jump from the fire escape onto the ledge of his other window. This ledge was a few inches wide and a few stories up! Somehow I can't imagine Alice doing that now. My evidence, let me show you it.

  • Sorry for no update, I was going to post one last week but a certain little bebeh has been keeping me busy. I'm beginning to think the girls do NOT want to get adopted. A couple came to see them on Tuesday, Trixie hid under the bed and Alice bit the woman! Naughty girls. I'll post more when I get a chance.
  • Ok, I'm off next week for my very first week off in almost 7 years. I plan on taking more pictures of the girls and writing a new bio for them. Also, a new flyer for them since the one I have up at work is several ones glued together. Of course, I still have to figure out how to get the girls to stop being naughty when someone comes over to meet them.
  • I'm having a hard time getting motivated to write a new bio for A & T. I need a longer one for craigslist and a short one with pics for a flyer. Anyone feel like giving me a hand with writing them? I have a bunch of medical stuff I've been putting off that I need to take care of soon. New lease means more rent and my other boss hasn't been needing me as much which means less money. Combine that with the kittens and all I want to do when I get home is watch Law and Order and play spider solitaire.

I know I'm a whiny bitch but I'm a bit overwhelmed and my long awaited vacation wasn't too relaxing for some strange reason. (I "acquired" the little grey kitten my first day off.) Anyway, if someone would be willing to help me out, I would be eternally grateful. Even if it's just helping me get motivated or giving me pointers. My aim screen name is the same as this one, I'm on pretty much whenever I'm home. Thanks guys!
  • Subject: 2 evicted cats

You are not a whiny bitch. Quite the contrary. I'm sorry you're having a rough time.
I just started a new job, so things are really chaotic here, but I'll pm you my e-mail address and see what I can do to help you write a bio. It'll take a few days to get to.
I would take the cats myself, but with Jake now having diabetes and also having hypoglycemic episodes coupled with all of the other animals, it's pretty crazy around here.

How is the newest baby doing? Couldn't any of the other cat rescue groups come to your aid this time (I know that's a tall order with all of the feral and abandoned cats out there.)

I hope things go better for you. You deserve it. O:)
  • Thanks to dakota's way, Alice and Trixie have a great new bio for craigslist! Now, I just have to tear myself away from the kittens to make them a new flyer.
  • Yay! Can we see a link?

    These girls are gorgeous.
  • ack! so much cuteness! I love the videos, too.

    Great job on the ad!
  • I think this may be one of the best pictures I've ever taken. Still nothing for these sweet girls.

  • Well, I have the kittens until after the holidays. They kept running out the door of the bookstore and it's just too busy right now to watch them properly. Catherine and I had a long talk about them and my desire to keep the babies. She's willing to let me keep them (which I really really want to do) but I know it's not possible.

One thing she suggested is for them to take Alice and Trixie after the holidays. They'll get tons of exposure since people will be going in and out and it will hopefully get them adopted finally. I've always felt that if people could just see them and interact with them, that they would find a home. I'm not worried that they would try to run outside, they've been there and done that and have no interest in the outdoors. I think as long as they have a place to go to get away from people when they want then they'll be okay there.

If this works out Catherine is thinking of doing it again. Hosting rescued cats at the bookstore to help them find homes. I think with the right cats it could be a great idea.
  • That's a great idea! Alice and Trixie are gorgeous and well-behaved. I hope they finally find a good home
  • I don't want to jinx myself but I may have some good news about the girls. I'll post later when I have more than a 5 free minutes. *fingers crossed*
  • Fingers crossed. And toes. And eyes!
  • Alice and Trixie have spent the last week at their possible new home. A very nice couple with a house in Bed-Stuy agreed to give the girls a trial run of 2-3 weeks. The husband Calvin is the one who contacted me, he had cats growing up and wanted to get a pair of kittens. At first he thought the girls were too old for him (since they are fully grown). But even after showing him pictures of kittens available for adoption he kept going back to look at A & T.

Last Tuesday night we packed the girls up and Calvin drove us to his house. The girls have a 3 story house all to themselves, complete with fun places to hide, laundry to sleep on and closets to explore. I spoke to Calvin Saturday or Sunday to check on them. Well, it's completely different from when I took the girls in. Alice has adjusted pretty well, eating (her favorite pastime) and showing affection. Trixie has been hiding and only coming out at night. I'm really hoping she adjusts and realizes that she has a great new home.

I have a really good feeling, this couple seems like a perfect match for A & T. They'll have a caring family and a nice house to run around in. I'll post again soon. Send Alice and Trixie good thoughts!
  • Great job Caseo! I will miss rubbing their tummies in the bookstore though!
    How are the babies?
  • These fosters are the older ones I had, not the kittens. I would have loved to keep Alice and Trixie but 4 cats and 2 dogs are my limit. I really hope this home works for them. Thanks littlegal!
  • Caseo
You really are a great animal lover! It can be so hard to get cats adopted once they are beyond kittenhood. I loved visiting those guys in the bookstore; and am so happy to hear they may have finally found a loving, forever home (fingers and toes still crossed).
Do you know if the bookstore will try this again? It seems to have worked well, so I hope so.
I was also wondering about the babies, M & G, but see there is another thread devoted to them on here.
Great work though. I hope that you recognize what a saint you are to all these animals who, through no fault of their own, have no one to really count on. You rock!
  • So if I'm not mistaken, the girls have been at their potential new home since Christmas or so, right? Any further word on how this is going?
  • I spoke to Calvan today about the girls and he wants to give it a few more weeks. Alice has settled right in, exploring the house, demanding food, and even coming downstairs to say hello to party guests on NYE. Trixie has not adjusted as well, she's still hiding but coming out to eaty and use the litterbox. They set up an entire room just for the girls, where their food and litterbox is. Trixie comes out to investigate only when it's quiet but if anyone moves she runs back into her room. I told Calvan that it took her months to come into my bedroom which is at the other end of my apartment from the bathroom. (Where the girls were set up.)

The good news is that they're willing to give Trixie a chance. Maybe I should go over there and give her a stern talking to. I mean, they have their own room for pete's sake!
  • I'm so glad that Calvan is giving them more time. Maybe Alice needs to talk to Trixie as well and tell her to get it together and not mess up their chance - lots of kids don't even have their own room!
  • Okay, given that this has been stickied for almost nine months and that they're in a new home, I'm going to go ahead and unsticky. If this placement doesn't work out, I think you might want to consider starting a new thread. My fingers are crossed for them, though!
  • I think that they should commit fully and just embrace Trixie's shyness. One of our cats was scared of a friend and it took almost a year for her to get over it. Now she follows the friend around purring, demanding to be pet... Do they try giving her treats, or tempting her our with a toy bouncing past? Otherwise, I think you should go over there for the stern talk... I'm really hopeful that they want to keep both kitties. Please keep us updated?
  • Surely more time is good. They will just more attached to the kitties and hopefully start to feel like the shy kitty is "their" shy kitty.
  • Alice and Trixie are such lucky girls, they've had the support of you guys and now have a great home. I think I may go visit them, maybe seeing a familiar face will help Trixie realize her new home is really wonderful. It took Trixie months to even come into my bedroom (at the other end of the apartment from where they were set up). She was very timid and would run back to the bathroom if I made the wrong move. I think I just need to reassure Calvan that Trixie will adjust but it might take longer than a few weeks.

Thanks guys, we couldn't have done this without you!
  • caseopele. you are a wonderful soul.

trixie was always wary of trusting anyone. perhaps i should take her for a day and park her fat ass back out onto my fire escape again.

    a little shock therapy....

    Q, keeping it real :P

Seriously! Alice and Trixie went from shacking up with a strange tomcat on Q's fire escape to having their own room in a 3 story house! With a wonderful loving couple no less! (Must resist urge to use more exclamation marks...) I'm going to have to go have a talk with Trix, remind her where she came from. Alice has figured out that they have it made, plenty of food for her fat butt. Q, I remembered you told me Alice would jump on your other window ledge. She couldn't do that now!
