one good documentary from netflix (instant play too) if you are interested to check out this interesting japanese subculture about host guys (modern geisha, male version), is "The Great Happiness Place".

I second Grand Illusion. It's one of those classics that is taught in film class. Also,

1. Rope - classic Hitchcock with only 4 edits in the entire movie; it's amazing to watch and to think about how many takes it must have taken them to get everything right (especially the scene where the swinging door swings in such a way that you see the bad guy doing something bad when it swings open).
2. Manchurian Candidate (original) - Angela Lansbury, only 5 years older than her "son" costar (Laurence Harvey), is chilling. Frank Sinatra said he was offered the role as the son but that he knew he didn't have the acting skills to play that part so he took the easier role.
3. Atonement - hot actors, hot (non-graphic) sex scene, sad story
4. Hair - it should have made Treat Williams a star - the dancing and songs are great.

Also, surprised at the dissing of the U.S. version of The Office. I think Steve Carell (and most of the cast) is briliiant.

Just finished watching Man On Wire - brilliant, thanks for the rec. For those of you interested in documentaries, check out Born Into Brothels - about Calcutta's red light district - difficult subject matter but amazing, and The Story of the Weeping Camel - Mongolian camel eventually reunited with its baby. Both available on Netflix watch now, I think.

Also agree with previous poster. All About Eve is perhaps one of the best pictures ever made. Top 5 anyway.

I highly recommend "Rachel Getting Married". I seriously did not think Anne Hathaway had it in her for that type of role. Plus (aside from the major dysfunction w/in that family) the wedding looked like a lot of fun

Changeling was good, and agree that it's creepy because it was true...although it was a little long.

I saw Pride & Glory and thought it was entertaining - not spectacular, but I can watch Edward Norton recite the alphabet.

Watch Rachel. Do it. Have tissues nearby. I watched this on my laptop while traveling last night and cried at the hotel through almost the whole thing....yet there are some very funny parts as well. And Debra Winger is in it. Yay! Looking like a woman her age is *supposed* to look - with wrinkles and all.

I wasn't fond of In Bruges.

Chop Shop was decent. Frozen River is in my queue - waiting for it to come.

"The Orphanage" , is creepy scary.

Don't watch it alone......

It has subtitles.

If you like dark/strange comedy, the brit mini-series Nighty Night (one disc) is definitely worth renting.

Carni - yes, I have streaming Netflix (Roku box), and that's how I saw Transsiberian and several other movies. It's awesome - although I do wish they had a larger selection

I talked to Netflix and the selection is based on the movie studios and their negotiations for distribution. Some are easier to deal with than others.

Some other streaming movies I liked include "I Like Killing Flies" and "Street Fight"
