I walk down Bedford from Eastern Parkway to Carroll St often, and I feel safe. No unsavory elements.

I have a cousin that lives near downstate hospital. She said they're selling condos nearby for around 400K. Having seen that neighborhood, those brokers have got to be crazy  Who the hell is going to move into those condos with the rampant lowlife around that area? -
The hasidim are doing a lot of development along E. NY Avenue from New York Ave to Utica. Many of those buildings appear to be designed specifically for large Hassidic families. Those folks will pay for the development because the single family houses in the area do not turn over much and the new development allows them to stay in the area, close to their temple and family. There is a new girls school (yeshiva?) that opened at Brooklyn just off Empire and I think there is a concerted effort to take advantage of some of the blight by tearing down small two story houses and replacing them with one large apartment complex.

My 2 cents:
I'm on EP btwn Franklin and Classon as well for ten years- I've seen so much change (Brooklyn Museum renovation was a like a mirage when it first unveiled...), but damn, Franklin is like a stubborn child that refuses to grow up. It makes me sad because I feel like the people who congregate daily on the sidewalk tend to be the people who just never move on in life- NOTHING changes there- at least that's how it sometimes seems.
Add to that, the high school kids- 2 schools worth at 3pm swarm that entire block Monday through Friday.
Have to say though, that the Shuttle changed a lot of things for most of the people living on my block. We can just bypass that whole corner, and coming home super late at night (MANY times), you wouldn't believe the difference 200 ft make.
BTW, Mobina- I believe it's Crips.

How is it here. My wife and I are thinking of renting there. Is it okay? -

Interesting how perception can be so different.
I love the area at the corner of Franklin and Bedford.

What exactly do you love about that intersection- the gas station, car wash, or the Washingtom Mutual?
