DH Road Trip: Picnic Hike - Sat, June 16th
Join us for a little sun & fun at lovely Bear Mountain, NY.
A number of us have made plans to go up on Sat June 16th and anyone who wants to come is invited. We have a couple of cars going already, and there is car space available for a few more people. If anyone else's car is available, great. The mountain is maybe 1.5 hrs away.
Unlike a normal DH outing, which consists of eating & drinking, we will be hiking and sitting in the sun. And eating and drinking. Bear mountain has a massive grassy area at the bottom; some people will do the hike, some will chill in the grass. FYI the hike is pretty minor - less than 2 hrs round trip as I recall, so there will be lots of time afterwards for chilling in the grass with the degenerates.
I don't remember seeing a ton of outdoor grills up there but maybe someone can correct me on that. Anyway, standard picnic items should be brought, as well as anything else desired.
Hope to see you there!
P.S: I'm not sure how Bear Mountain feels about alcohol; discretion may be required. Also, parking is $6.

Subject: Bear Mountain
 Can I come?? With Papi Chulo??
I don't have a car though, I'd need to bum a ride from you if possible?
However, I do own a flask!
and I can get tasty food!
Seriously! I'm getting giddy with excitement! -
me too! me too!
-
Of course Mama, and tell PC to bring his way-too-sexy self as well. And with Sweet Tea and J we may be looking at close to 10 people already. Car volunteers may become key at this point, but we'll do it one way or another.
-
if it comes to it, we can get a zip car if folks will chip in a bit.
-
Sounds like fun - I'll see if I can get the day off. If so, I'm game for chipping in on a ZipCar.
-
I going in between the classic picnic of fried chicken or whipping up some homemade goodness. Ok I'm thinking about this waaay too much.
Have salsa, will travel
-
my AC trip may fall through. if so, I'm in. do I need proper footwear?
-
The hike really isn't that crazy - it can be done with sneakers IMHO. But doing it in heels would be hott.
-
yay, we have a date set! so far there are two cars. we can figure out logistics once we have a headcount.
you’re correct BG, i called and no park grills or bbq pits, strictly bring your own.
i couldn’t find much on the trail difficulty – are we doing the 9.7 mile loop? sorry to disappoint - no heels for me. i can’t even manage 7th ave as witnessed by my face plant yesterday afternoon in wedges.
apparently we’re too early for paddle boat rentals, but the pool and merry-go-round will be open. -
I had figured on a much shorter one, which goes from the parking lot near the hudson river straight up to the top. But there are tons of different hikes available.
-
Looks like a fun place.

I don't have a car in NY , so I can't help ya'll there.
It doesn't look like there is anymore room in the available cars , so if we need a rental , I'll chip in for it too.
Who the hell is driving? We must choose a competent person.
I'm not 100% yet , I need to know what time we head out , and what time we are heading back home. -
I know I'm driving up, and I'll be a designated driver for the day. Exercise & drinking don't work too well for me anyway.
-
Taking one for the team huh?
You're a good man Biggie. -
I'd really love to do this, but will be at a wedding that weekend. I hope it goes really well so that people will want to do it again!
-
H & I (J) R in.
-
drat. selling at renegade craft fair that weekend. (for those of you who don't go, come to bburg to go shopping!)
-
As I work for said Zipcar, I can reserve a fine mobile. I'm thinking an Element. I can get us whatever we need. Maybe even a Mazda 5 (the big mofo)
Bad thing is, I can't get us a deal on weekend rates
- but I am a member, so I could definitely drive.
Big Guy- what are the times again? I'm too lazy to scroll up... -

Ooh , so it's a seltzer for you then.
If I go , I'll be hiking up the mountain.
The degenerates that you mentioned can cook till the hikers return.
Anyone got a football? I know you bitches aren't gonna wanna just lay around on the grass tanning. Right?
I have a basketball , but I don't think they have hoops. -
Frisbee.
-
I's to eat at your pick-ee-nick
-
poor kitten!
and I can't drive. I mean, I can, and have a DL, but I plan to consume something before we leave that might not be so good with the car thing. -

I was thinking of leaving mid-morning-ish but whatever. -
Normally I would be all over that but it's the same day as my 30th birthday party (egh!), so if this one is sucessful I will certainly join the next.

Humm... what sorta "something" are we talking about?

A little somethang somethang? Care to share
Speaking of, will I need dramamine for this trip? Never been up there. -

I don't think so, but I guess it depends on your sensitivity. It's pretty much straight highway driving. -
A hike would do us some good. Count me and the girlfriend in. Also, we have a [small] car, so we could drive.
-
I was reading down, thinking, "Cool! I hope there's still room for me to go," when I realized that I'm going away that weekend to visit my brother. But if there's a next time, count me in.

Two more weeks left , ya'll.
Has the exact go, and head back home time been set yet?
I needs to know , please. -
Personally I'm pretty open. I was thinking about leaving at something like 10 AM and getting there at 11:30 or so. As far as the ride back goes, there's no reason we have to leave at the same time. In fact there's no reason we have to get there at the exact same time either, except for those of us who want to hike.
For anyone who needs to get back at a specific time, you'll have to hook up with a like-minded driver. Like I said, I'm pretty open but I want to stay for a while. I plan on doing the hike and then I want to chill in the grass for a few hours. I figured on leaving late afternoon / early evening. -
Okay , heading out at 10am is not bad at all.
Leaving late afternoon/early evening sounds good as well.
Thanks for the info BigGuy.
