The mighty, meaty wind emanating from El Castillo de Jagua

Smell my greasy stench.
Bathe in my cyclone of meat.
Don't you feel dirty? -
damn lucky soda can

Look, it's not just about the mighty meaty wind, or even about the greasy grimy gate. This is what it's all about:

Now that is fucking good! $8 per person with enough rice and beans left over for a whole other meal! -
SWEET-MARY-MOTHER-OF-GOD man,
Did you get that from Jagua? -
Yep! It was my dinner tonight (and my wife's).
-
ay dios mio! me gusto mucho el carneviento!
and i'm a vegetarian too  -
Chicken and pork chops
golden brown and glistening
with succulent grease.
Is there a lip-licking emoticon? -
Omg. I'm going there this weekend come hell or high water! My brother is visiting...that would be a "real New York City experience," right?

Ha. At first I thought this was supposed to be a religious epiphany. Father...
Glorious drips of dense beef!
Father is it you? -
My deity farts...does yours?

Now why the hell would I ever want to do such a horrible thing like that?
[shudders at thought of a world without the meat vent] -
[spastic twitching]I can't stop looking at the vent, guys. I close my eyes...and it's still there![/spastic twitching]

I love how the grating of the meat vent has a shape of a heart. Coagulated meat juice is love. *hugs*

It's also funny how the grease congeals on the "heart" of the meat vent, just as it does in the real heart.

It's not grease, it's meat love! -

That sounds dirty. Although, to be truthful, the picture of the meat vent is also kind of pornographic. Maybe that's why it's so hard to look away...

I had lunch there today. We ordered BBQ chicken, short ribs, and Mofongo (mashed green plantains) with pork (meat AND skin). Along with side orders (salad, fries, bread, rice, beans) this was an insane amount of food for very cheap. Carnivore's pics make it look like a very reasonable amount of food, which it is not. [overstuffed] [/overstuffed]

Yeah, I just took a pic of what I had put on my plate. I did say there were enough rice and beans left over for a whole other meal though. -

Subject: the meat slide?
what is the prevailing theory on the slippery sidewalk slope otherwise known as the junction of park place and carlton in front of juaga? is this the particulated matter of carneviento that was too dense to be borne across flatbush into park slope  by the meat-fan? or, does its origin lie in some realm less-passive than gaseous matter chillin into a semi-solid state on concrete? i wish park slope had its own carneviento. maybe it would make some of those folks kinder and gentler... 8)
btw: curiosity, rather than judgement, underlies this question, as i simply love getting the extra lube to skid across the avenue to beat the light and would never want to compromise it. -
I walked by this morning, and it looks like they cleaned off the carneviento vent! I've got to get a picture to post here next time I go by.
I know Andy thinks I've got ideas of reference (google it if you don't know the term), but I think it's got to be in response to this thread, no? I mean, that grate clearly hadn't been cleaned for several years at least. Now they clean it within a few weeks of that picture being posted? -
Oh my God - they cleaned El Carneviento!
You bastards!!

NOOOOOOOO-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
You bastards!!
You know, some person who posted in this thread suggested they be reported. Perhaps that's what happened. If true, a pox on that person and may their children be born with three heads. -

Damn. Today I made my friend who lives in PH take me to the meat fan to see what all the fuss was about (we were headed for the subway there by it anyway) and I wondered why it didn't look like the pic that was posted. I could still smell it a block away, though. And after we walked by, I felt like I'd been dipped in beef drippings.
Bet it keeps one's coat nice and lustrous, though. -

You're damn right it does/did.... [Weeps silent tears of beef] -

Wait a minute, let's be clear here.
The luscious scent and feel of el carneviento are still alive and well.
All they did was clean the vent from which it eminates. Fetishizing the vent risks losing sight of what's so great about el carneviento to begin with, and quite frankly, verges on idolatry.

fetish (fĕt'ĭsh) , inanimate object believed to possess some magical power. The fetish may be a natural thing, such as a stone, a feather, a shell, or the claw of an animal, or it may be artificial, such as carvings in wood. The power of the fetish is thought to derive its efficacy from one of two sources. In some cases the object is said to have a will of its own; in others the source of power comes from the belief that a god dwells within the object and has transformed it into an instrument of his desires. Closely related to the idea of the power of a fetish is the notion of taboo. Here the power within the fetish is thought to be so strong that it is extremely dangerous and may be handled only by special individuals, if at all. Any object of irrational or superstitious devotion may be called a fetish.

We ate there for dinner on Saturday (YUM, by the way!!! And cheap enough for frequent repeat visits, which I assure you are planned!) and it was still greasetastic then...or maybe I just assumed so because of the smell. I admit I didn't take the opportunity to revel in the fan itself, which was clearly a mistake.
I'm a little confused about something, though: "Castillo de Jagua" is, according to my highly scientific internet research, a castle in Cuba. But this is a Dominican place...no?
