What is your favorite inexpensive red wine?

This is now my "house" wine - I buy it by the case from Prospect Wine Shop on 7th Ave between 8th and 9th Streets...it's absolutely fantastic

Sipavola - a robust blend of 65% Nero d'avola, and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon from Sicily.

$9.99 by the bottle - 15% discount when purchased by the case. They deliver.

Now this is a post I can really get into. I love cheap,but good wine. And since I don't have much expertise, I will share my own current favs but really want some other opinions on good, cheap reds. Recently I am a fan on luzon, jumilla spain 2006. Pleasse don't judge b/c i don't understand the specific details.. I also enjoy Hogue and a wine called Flavio (that is my fav wine ever) that can be bought at Red, White, and Bubbly at 5th and union.
Looking forward to others sharing their secret favs so I can experiment with some new tastes.

Two Buch Chuck is $1.99 in CA, but $2.99 elsewhere. I wish they hadn't changed the label from "Charles Shaw" to TJ's, because you may be able to give a bottle of Charles Shaw to a host without them knowing you only spent $3 :-)

I had this fabulously delicious Notre Dame du Cosignac 2005 Cotes du Rhone for about $12 from SlopeCellars, but they are of it now :-(

I'm into the Marques de Riscal from Spain (it has a netting over the bottle)

Blackstone Cabernet (although the Merlot is more popular, I like the Cab much better)

Excelsior Cab and Cline Red Truck, both about $10 and both amazingly good.

Excelsior is actually my favorite bottle period.

yea i did some research, it's a between $2.99 and $3.99 outside of California. Three Buck Chuck and Four Buck Chuck just don't have the same ring to it as Two Buck Chuck though, so forever it shall be known as that by me. I spend a month and a half in LA recording an album with my old band and between us and the producer we put away atleast 3 or 4 bottles of it every night. There was a Trader Joe's around the corner from the studio... bad news!

I used to be able to find a great $7 bottle of "Cheap Red Wine." It was a brown paper label with the name in black stencil. Not amazing but unbeatable for the price. I haven't seen it on the shelves in ages...

No help there, just felt like reminiscing.

Carnivore - where do you buy that? For inexpensive wine, I'll try most reds once

Oh I do like Bogle a lot. It's cheap and a very gnarly-vine sorta wine. Has a good deep flavor for a super cheap price, sadly it is under $7 usually out west.

I'm pretty sure 7th ave Wine & Liquor has it. 88 7th Avenue at Union St.
They also have some really nice affordable red wines. The guys there don't mind when I ask for a rec on a good $10-ish bottle :oops: hee hee

Full disclosure, I am in some way affiliated with a local wine store. And nope, I'm not saying which one this time. I know there are more, I used our wineaccess shop to check those but it doesn't have everything. I'm pretty sure we have the Penfolds Koonunga Hill and I know we had that Notre Dame CDR at one time. As for prices, there may be some sort of, ahem, discount for select members of Brooklynian. (You know who you are!) When I get back to work and am less sick, I'll post some more. I'm still a bit mentally impaired at the moment (this post took me 30 minutes to write!).

Astor Wines (now at Lafayette and 4th St) is great for bargain wine. What's even better -- every Tuesday they have 15% off one region, so you can enjoy the usual case discount on single bottles.

And whoever is trying to get over with their friends that Charles Shaw is not the same as Trader Joe's has got to be kidding . . .

That was me, and while I'd never tell somebody I brought them an expensive wine if it was Charles Shaw, the label was nicer than the TJ's label and it doesn't scream out "two buck chuck" in quite the same way
