Hello friends
Snowy Saturday here in NY
Expecting a few inches
It is about 25 degrees now
Warren, we sometimes go to Brighton beach in the summer, but we have a
4 1/2 ft pool in our yard, so most hot
Days we're home using it.
Hi to Richard & Booklaw & the rest
Of our blog family.
Enjoy your weekend friends.

Hi Everyone,
Is everyone sick of this snow already!!!!!!
Had a party in Brooklyn yesterday, started to venture out, but had to turn around and head back home, the roads were horrible. Plus cars were going two miles an hour, it would of taken us 4 hours to get to Brooklyn.
Today it's pretty nice out, hopefully some of this snow will melt.
Well enjoy the rest of the weekend.....made gravy today...and then tonight will relax and watch the Oscars.. -
Guess Who. Someone was browsing one
of my original posts and reminded me that you guys are still out there.
Hope everyone is doing well and are happy and healthy.
Hey I'm an official GEEZER NOW - 65 on SS and Medicare LOL.
Wife is getting ready to retire at the end of the year (God help me
)
My middle daughter Nicole got married last June 27th and both her and
my son Chris are in Medical School in Florida. I'm wintering there as
soon as she finishes MS and moves out of my condo.
Older Goat glad to see you are still going strong. Hey I was
in the neighbor last year and this is for you:

It's still there.
My older daughter Lisa is still in Brooklyn holding down the fort.
Well take care and remember Spring is less then a month away.

Caught in Puerto Vallarta on vacation.
Think summer. -
Hi Jimbo...nice to hear from you
Hi to everyone....another cold day.....spring where are you!!!!!!!!
Have a great day -
Hi all, I've been reading your threads for several months and enjoying the fact that you all still keep in touch from decades ago in Brooklyn. I grew up on 13th street between 4th and 5th avenue. I and my 5 siblings grew up across from Holy Family Church and attended HF School on 14th street. Played ball in ps124 school yard. I live in South Carolina and threw my snow shovels away 7 years ago.
Hope you all are staying warm and safe. Jim Kavanagh -
Welcome Jim.....it's so nice to hear from people from the old neighborhood.
Hello everyone....should be a little warmer today...30 degrees ...lol,
Have a great day!!!!' -
Hello from Florida. Well the cold spell finally passed. Last two days were partly sunny and high temps in the 70's. Ships are having a hard time in Tampa Harbor due to heavy fog. One of the Cruise ships that was due in Monday AM did not get to dock until Tuesday evening! Nice to hear from some more people on here. Jim67, I went to PS 124 in the late 30's early 40's. Then went to PS 40 on 16th Street (long gone) and then to Manual. Many of my friends went to Holy Family and we would walk home together after school. I lived on 12th Street between 5th & 6th Aves. Graybeard49. I know that the Chuch is still there but it has not been a Reformed Church for many years now. When the migration of people in the late 50's through the 60's took place, too many members moved to LI & NJ. It is the Par Slope Community Church now. I had a tour of the building a few years ago when my wifes Mother's Memorial service was held there. Many, Many changes inside but the GYM is still there. Thanks for the photo. many fond memories for me there.

Hi Judy and O G,
I have three sisters who are older than I. You may have known two them. Carol is now 78 and Maryanne passed last year at 76. They went to HF in the 40's then to Bay Ridge High. My brother Neddy Boy, who died in a car accident in 1960, would have been 74 now. I drove and walked through park slope last year for the first time in 25 years. Wow, what a different atmosphere. I moved from PS to Bay Ridge in 72 and live on 98th and Marine Ave until 1984 when I moved to Bronxville in Westchester. Time does fly too fast. Good move living in Florida OG although Brooklyn will always have a warm place in my heart. Jim -

For some reason, I cannot use the quote feature on this forum - am trying to congratulate Graybeard on his great catch -As usual for me, whenever I've gone fishing, the fish go on a holiday vacation.Weatherman up here sez we have finally reached the end of the sub zero temperatures and it's all up hill from now on ...And, a Happy Purim to all!

Temps hit 80 degrees yesterday and today. Now that is true Florida weather. Carol feeling so-so. I am doing pretty well. Have been contacted by a young lady from another blog. She knows quite a bit about my old neighborhood from her Father who grew up there. She even knew one of the family names of a boy I went to PS 124 and 40's with, Joseph Pascone. She actually grew up in the Sunset Park area but as I said knew a lot because of her Father. Carol & I went to Wynn-Dixie today and got quite a few BOGOS. We spent $30 and saved $20.
Patsy your daughter is a knockout. If I was 60 years younger I would be looking to date her!!!! -
Patsy, sounds like a wonderful family. I didn't marry till 37 years old. I have a 27 year old son who is a Captain in the Marines. He survived Afghanistan and is now with his wife and two little girls in Okinawa. Marie was born there so other than face time, we haven't held her yet. Thank God for face time. Love technology.
Jessica loves college and is a 4.0 student for the second straight year. She's staying past her bachelors to get her masters and CPA. We're thankful that her boyfriend lives in Charleston (6 hours from Knoxville) so she can concentrate on her studies. I love the name Gavin. I knew a family on or near 20th street by the name of Joy back in the early 70's. Today was beautiful here, 60 and sunny. Jim -
I wonder how many of you remember that long before re-cycling, we had to divide our garbage a bit. In a burlap sack we would put all the kitchen garbage and hang it on the front fence. Then we had a large garbage can for ashes. (We burnt coal for heat). In the winter we saved the ashes as long as possible to put down on the icy sidewalk. It made the ice & snow almost impossible to slide on and of course it was much cheaper then putting out rock salt. The Dept. of Sanitation would push the snow from big snow storms down the storm sewers. (For years I always thought the sewers were just for Home Plate and Second base and to measure how far you could hit a Spaulding with a stick ball bat)(Broom Handle). I went to school from 1939-1951. In all that time we had ONE snow day when school was closed and that was in 1947. Until I was about 15 I thought Girls were just for throwing snowballs at and hitting them with a sock full of flour on Halloween. Oh yes, winters in the slope. We took our sleds (One sled for myself & two brothers) up to Prospect park to slide down the hills. If my Mother or Father were not watching we slid down 12th Street. Very few cars in those days. I was a lousy Ice Skater. Had those skates with two blades and I still fell on my a-- every time I went down to 3rd street playground where they flooded the basketball court so people could ice skate. On Sundays, when there was snow on the ground, we would help my brother deliver the Sunday Brooklyn Eagle Route by putting the papers on a sled. Yea, winter memories are not all bad!!!

Hello friends,
Hi Jim K
You have a wonderful family too!
My son in law is a marine
He was staff sergeant when he left.
Once a marine, always a marine!
He is now a NY police officer
He did 2 tours in Iraq.
My daughter Natalie met him on
A leave thru some mutual friends,
He's a Long Island boy.
Now a Brooklyn boy
For the time being
They rent my apt in my home in bay ridge.
Hopefully, soon they will buy a place of their own.
Hope you get to hold your grand daughters soon!
Grandchildren really are special.
Also I knew the Joy family too
You inquired about them when you messaged me, but you never received my reply back.
I went to school with one of them.
Nice family.
Hi Warren,
Hope Carol is feeling better.
Warren I would be very grateful if my Daughter Toniann finds a man like you
When she settles down.
Yes, Jimbo
Congrats on your catch.
Hi Richard
Glad weather is warming up by you.
Everyone enjoy your night!!

Hey Old80Goat,
I remember making scooters from a milk crate, 2x4, and one skate. We took the rubber out of the front of the skate so the wheels would allow you to steer left or right. Of course stick ball and a spauldine ball was the past time. We were great at catching, hitting and running. We took those games seriously. Lots of fun choosing up sides. You know who was the best third baseman or outfielders.
Catching the ball off the cars was out. And those egg balls were hard to catch. Ah, the good old days.
-
Hi Jim
I think we both posted around the same time on March 3. I say this only b/c you didn't respond to my post above. ^ lol.
More snow expected here tonite into tomorrow.
Hi to all my blog family & friends.
Have a great night!
-
Yes Jim, I remember those scooters well. Also the guns we made out of spare pieces of wood. You put a nail in the front top of the gun and added a rubber band and cut the other end with a piece remaining to attach the rubber band until you loaded it and fired. Then you would get cut up squares of cardboard from the movie posters and that was the ammunition. Some guys cheated and used linoleum pieces. We took old fedoras, turned them inside out, cut off the brim and made a cap with diamond shaped sides then we took bottle caps, removed the cork and attached them to the hat!!! In so far as cars when we played stickball, there was only one on our field and that was first base!
-
Hi friends
Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!
-
You too Patsy. Tomorrow is my B-day so it's golf then happy hour at our favorite beach bar.
-
Hi everyone,
Happy Birthday Jim.....enjoy your day
Have a great weekend!!!! -
Happy birthday, Jim
Enjoy!!
Hi Judy

-
Happy International Women's Day!Actually, every day is Women's Day as far as I'm concerned

-
Milk crate scooters - sure I remember them.Stick ball using Spaldeens - I loved to play that game and was also good at softball and baseball. We also played hardball which was a hybrid game combining both sports. Since I owned the bat I was captain and had first choice at picking a player for my side when we played at Jefferson Sand Field in East New York. Naturally, my first choice was always Willie Randolph. To this day I still boast to baseball fans here in St Paul that I was Willie's Captain!Everyone have a wonderful week.
Howdy, Stranger!
