  • While I send my greetings to Yogi, I cannot forget that he was the most devastating hitter against the Dodgers in the World Series. You could not walk him, he swung at everything and usually connected. He was one of baseballs greatest and when you figure he and Roy Campenella played in the same town, it is amazing! Yesterday I attended a birthday party for a 100 year old man. He danced up and down the aisles and between tables. I wish the same for Yogi. Too bad his best friend Phil Rizzuto is not here to celebrate with him.
  • Hi friends
Hope everyone had a nice weekend.
Weather here has been pretty nice!
    :)
  • Good morning friends
    Where is everyone?
    Hope all is well.
    :)
  • Here I am Patsy. I had the last entry before yours! Weather here has been great too as long as you like it Hot & Muggy. Went for a swim in our Independent Living Pool today. Water was warm. That is the way I like it. The Rangers sure fell on their face the other night. I was telling people here that they would whoop the Tampa Bay Lightning! Boy did the Rangers make me look bad. Though I am in this area for 18 years, I still root for the New York/New Jersey area teams in all sports. I do not follow Hockey that much these days. Can not follow the puck on TV! I went to a Rays vs Yankees game last week and the Yanks got 10 hits but only 2 runs and lost. Seems like a conspiracy to make me root for the locals. NEVER WILL HAPPEN!!!!
  • Hi Warren
And the living is easy :)
    Glad you're swimming and going
    To sports arenas.
Enjoy life, that's what it's all about!!
I just went to library & borrowed 14th deadly sin by James Patterson.
I read the last 13 in order.
    Love these stories!
    Say hello to Carol.

    Have a great night!
    :)

    Have a great weekend!
Remember, we are free because of the Brave!!

  • Greetings to all, With Memorial Day coming up next Monday, it revives memories of my youth and early adult life. The Memorial Day parade that came down Eastern Pkwy & ended at Grand Army Plaza was a sight to behold. So many Organizations, so many bands, so many people! I can still remember how they separated the Veterans according to the war they fought in. When I was very young they actually had a small group from the Civil War riding in a car. Then there was the Spanish-American War, 1st World War and the Second World War, the big one, WW2. This was before Korea or Vietnam. The parade lasted ALL DAY All the American Legion and VFW posts had parties that day. Sometimes after the Parade we would go to Stenick Post on 13th Street for their party. The adults got Beer and the kids got soda and Ice Cream. Here in our Independent Living Apartments we will have a service to remember the Vets . I am fortunate enough to be picked to take part again this year. Then instead of our usual dinner we will have a picnic, barbecue style. The number of WW2 vets is shrinking very fast. We should never forget those who served in our Military at any time.
  • Have a great Memorial Day everyone!
    ~ Mamacita
  • Hi, Heard from Terry. She is trying to get back on here. Her son Graduated Law School & she is naturally very proud. It is nice to hear from our regulars as well as those who used to be on here regularly. I am preparing for tomorrow, studying the part I will play in the ceremony. I will be doing the Invocation. Also getting some flags and ribbons to display. I have discussed WWll on here before and some of the happenings in the neighborhood as well as in school. I did have one Uncle in the Army during the big one. Part of the time he was in he was stationed on the Queen Mary ferrying the troops over to England and the wounded back home. God bless the Gold Star Mothers!
I started this message two days ago but it did not get posted???
  • Good morning friends,
Warren I'm sure your part in the ceremony was great!!
    Hope all is well!
Weather here has been better than predicted.
No rain or thunderstorms like we thought
    (So far)
    TGIF..everyone have a great weekend.
    :)

Hello, Thank you Patsy for your vote of confidence on my part in the Memorial Day Service. We had a big crowd and the whole service was very well received. Weather here has also been very good. I got my report about my Colonoscopy and it was good. All Polyps benign! We are waiting for a report on Carol's upper G.I. test. She hopes it will tell us something as to why she gets so many digestive attacks. She stays away from Fruits & Veggies as directed but still gets attacks. It is especially hard on her since she has always enjoyed Fruits & Veggies. Today (Sunday) we will have our usual Champagne/Mimosa Brunch and then our Non-Denominational Worship service. A couple of hours after the service Carol will be at Bingo in the same room as the Service. Remember what Herb Oscar Anderson said on his morning radio show in NY years ago "The more things change, the more they stay the same".
  • Happy Brooklyn Day

    ... to everyone in God's Country !!!    :)
  • As I have stated before on this blog. It was Anniversary Day when it started. It was the Anniversary of the Brooklyn Sunday School Union and huge parades took place with representatives from every Church in Brooklyn (and later Queens) took part. I marched in it many times and one time rode on a mock up windmill for the 12th Street Reformed Church which was originally Dutch Reformed. We had numerous dignitaries that came from Presidents to Governor's to Mayors. I got to sit on Governor Dewey's lap and had my picture taken with him. No, I do not have a copy.
  • Hey, come on guys & gals. Am I singing solo in the choir here? How about some action from the old Park Slope crowd. Question. Do any of you remember the 5th Avenue elevated subway. How about the 5th Avenue trolley?. How about an Ice Cream sandwich on waffles at Germains????
  • I remember the ice cream on the warm waffles & licking the sides as it melted.
    Mmm!!
    Hi guys..
Hope everyone had a great weekend!!
    :)
  • Hi guys
    Happy weekend
    Enjoy!!
    :)
  • Where is everyone??
  • Howdy!

    I hope everyone is well.

As usual, at this moment I'm listening to KLBB-AM from Stillwater, MN.  It is a terrific nostalgia station that plays groovy  music.

This morning I had two very tasty sour cream pancakes (one topped with strawberry preserves, the other with agave syrup) for brunch.  Boy, did they ever fill me up! My tummy is still feeling quite full and satisfied with this treat. Goodies like that are virtually unknown in these parts but it's old hat there in God's Country where folks are known for their good taste.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend - me, am planning on watching baseball ~ adult amateur league (last weekend I attended a girls softball tournament).  There's just nothing like the outdoors!

    Take very good care.   :)

    Happy Flag day!!!
    Remember
We are the land of the free, because of the brave!!

May she always wave strong & proud.
    :)
  • Hi Richard
    Your pancakes sound delish!!!
    Enjoy the day!'
    :)
  • Hello All,

Patsy, I wore all patriotic clothing today and had flags (3) in my front yard. I can not forget Flag Day because it is one of my grandchildren's birthday. Another one is on D Day. Patriotic family.
Prodigal Son, I am surprised you found that many people in Minnesota. I thought they were all down here in mid-west Florida. They all come down I-75 and stay here!
  • Hi all!

Patsy ~ you are so right about those yummy pancakes.

Around here, everybody thinks buttermilk pancakes stand out (and they are right to some extent).  But nothing beats sour cream pancakes.

Years ago when I first moved here nobody even knew what bagels were. Today, folks here love them.  Maybe some day they will learn to enjoy bialys!

Goat ~ yes, you are so right about Minnesotans loving Fort Myers and the surrounding area.  While many middle class folks vacation there to see the Twins farm team and pre-season baseball, many from the wealthier classes settle there upon retirement.  They say it is a wonderful place to live.

Meantime, I'm enjoying watching youth baseball.  Last night, our neighborhood under 13 team had a great game against a rival team from a nearby town.  What great fun!
  • Hello, Another hot day and the thunder is bellowing out there right now. Oh well, that is summer in Florida!

When I was in High School I had a little difference of opinion with my English Teacher. She read us that famous poem "A Rose is a Rose is a Rose". I told her that if that was not written by a noted author they would probably put her or him in a rubber room. My teacher did not appreciate my opinion and said that I was poetically DEAD. Okay so I guess it is okay for me to write "A Pancake is a Pancake is a Pancake." Sorry but I do not see much difference in them. By the way, I am 1 & 1/2 hours North of Ft Myers Besides the little differences in speech like POP instead of Soda and the pronounciation of ROOF. We get along just fine with the Minnesota people.
  • Hi guys
Richard I am going to try sour cream pancakes at I Hop soon, I love sour cream.
    Especially with fried porgies!

Warren, we had rain 3 straight days & lots of it!! Today weather is beautiful.
On my way to TGIF on the bay in sheepshead bay. We booked outside patio that looks over the water to eat.
Looking forward to a nice steak.

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend .
    :)
  • To all you wonderful dads,
    Enjoy your day!!
  • Hi  all!

Happy Father's Day &  the start of Summer

Goat is correct - folks here say  ''pop'' for soda.  Years ago I became friends with a guy who had two kids playing youth baseball whom I helped coach.  He offered me a pop and I thought he was offering to  flatten my nose.  Thankfully, he pointed to a soda can and that's when I knew what he  was talking about.  Years later, I am helping to coach his grand daughter in softball.

All these years have gone by and I still love to watch youth baseball and softball.

Hey Patsy ~ try sour cream pancakes using a combo of rice & coco flour.  It is sweet and the texture is soft beyond belief!

Sports & food = my two biggest passions!

    Everyone have a WONDERFUL  Summer!
  • Hi everyone-been so busy lately. Had a family friend stay with us this week. Went to Naples Beach, out for lunch & dinner, shopping and the casino. Going to the gym & pool almost every day.
