omg. that's so distressing. ew.
which reminds me, I need to figure out why my camera phone keeps eating pix. -
Actually, these are 2 different flashers caught on camphone. The one Boing Boing picked up from Flickr actually ran (first?) on Citynoise.org, the site our very own Rhodamine runs:

Oh, man! That citynoise one is so much worse (the picture)! How utterly, utterly creepy.
This morning I had one of those guys who would NOT STOP STARING at me no matter how many dirty looks I gave him...finally I ducked behind my husband, which worked until he had to get off the train. The guy had his head in his lap by then, so I sat down kind of far away and started reading. When I looked up to get off at my stop, though, he was still there and full-on staring at me again, with a very weird smile on his face. Thank god it was rush hour...maybe he was just a creep, but maybe not. -

scary dudes on the subway are just plain yucky! it seems like there are more freaks on the irt, though. I've lived off the 1/9 or 2/3 the whole time I've lived in NYC and probably every third subway ride is punctuated by some totally sleazy dude doing something nasty. I once sat next to a guy watching hardcore porn on his portable dvd player. :x

People are so weird. When I am reading on the train and get to a part in my book that is particularly offensive/sexually explicit/demented (for example, for a few days a while back my commuting material was "American Psycho"...also featured in my "bad things to read in public" series was "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues", which if you've never read it, has some hardcore lesbian sex scenes) I'm always worried someone's going to look over my shoulder and think I'm depraved. Nevermind whipping out the XXX Hott Teen Girlzz on DVD.
Jeez. -
i love this! a name and shame your subway pervert! people should print out these photos and post them on trains, and in stations! it would be fabulous, and utterly mortifying for the pervs.

Restaurant boss
in raw - tipsters
Is he subway flasher?
BY TRACY CONNOR and ALISON GENDAR
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS
Camera phone shot of suspected perv.
Cops want to question a Manhattan restaurant owner after getting numerous tips that he's the subway flasher caught in the act by camera phone, police sources said last night.
Nearly two dozen people have phoned the Daily News and the NYPD to say they believe Dan Hoyt, co-owner of raw-food eateries called Quintessence, is the man whose photo appeared on the cover of Saturday's paper.
Investigators contacted Hoyt by phone and asked him to come in for an interview, NYPD sources said. No arrests have been made.
Hoyt did not return The News' calls, and his business partner and ex-wife, Tolentin Chan, said, "It's not proven yet."
She said whoever the flasher is, he needs counseling.
"There should be a support center to support these men to find what is the cause of their action instead of ...putting them in jail," she said.
Hoyt and Chan co-own two restaurants, one on E. 10th St. in the East Village and the other on Amsterdam Ave., and are well known in the raw food movement, which calls for serving uncooked food.
The photo appeared in The News after Thao Nguyen, 22, used her cell phone to take a picture of a blond-haired man who exposed and fondled himself on an R train on Aug. 19.
Two other women who saw the picture - which also was posted on the Internet - have come forward to say they were flashed by the same man.
"When it did happen to me I was in shock," said a 31-year-old Manhattan woman. "It's a violation of my space and my sense of safety. It angered me he thought he could get away with it," she said.
She said the man flashed her twice in the past six months, both times on the 1/9 line.
"I know that face and remember that creepy smile," she said. "What a surprise to see his face on the front page of the Daily News. I am grateful for Ms. Nguyen's quick thinking and hope this man gets caught."
A 23-year-old student said the same man victimized her on the subway last Wednesday, and she now plans to file a complaint with cops.
"I just wanted to forget about the whole thing. I am glad someone had the wherewithal to do something about this," she said.
The victims will be asked to look at photo lineups of the flasher. If anyone is arrested, the charge will be public lewdness, a misdemeanor.

LOL...If that in fact is the guy, I guess you could say he certainly knows more than one way to serve it up raw! Regardless, either way, I'm never eating at this guy's place ever.

Isn't it a little early to blame Dan Hoyt for this? I've seen the photos and I'm not convinced it's him.

I agree. This Hoyt character looks younger to me...also the only pic I saw of him was the profile one, which isn't very helpful. Were there more floating around? -

Opinion: the facial features in these two pictures are more similar than dissimilar. ... But resemblance doesn't mean much with small and grainy photos like these. -

They look really, really close, but yeah, comparing the pic against the largest one I could find of Hoyt, the pervert pic guy looks a few years older.
BUT, my photo is from 2001. Who knows. Still, never eating there by virtue of the quantam cooties-by-proxy principle. -
Also, that photo of Hoyt, in my post and yours...no idea when it's from. The article I pulled it off was from 2001, but it certainly could be older.

I used to live in Boro Park and took the M or R trains home a lot - I have seen our flasher quite a bit and Hoyt looks a lot like him but I would say it is not him. Unless our Hoyt had collagen shots the lips are difference and so is the chin and nose.
I guess this is the flip side to technology - mistaken identity. I bet there are people who, in their minds, have convicted this guy already. -

Yeah, I'd say the Daily News has screwed him pretty damn good.

The pictures are pretty similar. At the same time, it's interesting how DH, site admin, knows how to use the word "alleged," while 1010 WINS and other "news" sites kinda forgot how you're supposed to use that word until the conviction comes in.

Their noses don't seem to match. the "perp's" nose seems to be a little wider and flatter. Their hairlines seem similar, but if one was taken in 2001, wouldn't it have receded a bit more since then? The "perp" clearly has a nefarious and evil look to him. The other guy has kind of a babyface.
For The Record: I do not have any idea who this Dan Hoyt guy is so I have no personal investment in this one way or another. -

the secret's in the sauce!
this post is for entertainment purposes only, and in no way does it allege actual guilt or levy accusations upon any party that may or may not have engaged in subway salami slapping. -
I bought a cel phone today because of this story. This has happened to me alot over the years, and I feel better knowing I can do something about it now. The prev looks familiar to me as well, I take the R train once a week, and I know I've seen him before {clothed}. :x
Gotta say, I feel mighty sorry for Mr. Hoyt, who bears a close resemblance to the perv, but I don't think it's him. -
Hmm. Hard call. The picture that daniel posted a link to looks more like him than the one DH posted. If it's not the guy, I feel bad for him. Even if he's cleared, people will still be pointing and laughing.

Things are not looking good for Mr. Hoyt today.

A subway flasher caught in the act on a cell phone camera may have been arrested in 1994 for exposing himself at one of the same subway platforms he hit recently, sources told the Daily News.
Six victims in addition to the cell phone user have told police they were flashed by the man whose photo appeared on the front page of Saturday's Daily News.
And a dozen tipsters said they believe the suspect is Dan Hoyt, co-owner of raw-food restaurants called Quintessence.
Hoyt, 43, was arrested in 1994 and charged with public lewdness after he unzipped and flashed a victim at what was then the N platform at Manhattan's Eighth St. subway station, sources said.
