The mighty, meaty wind emanating from El Castillo de Jagua

And cheap enough for frequent repeat visits, which I assure you are planned!) and it was still greasetastic then...or maybe I just assumed so because of the smell. I admit I didn't take the opportunity to revel in the fan itself, which was clearly a mistake.
Glad you liked it.
I'm a little confused about something, though: "Castillo de Jagua" is, according to my highly scientific internet research, a castle in Cuba. But this is a Dominican place...no?
I'm not sure where the owners are from, but I've always considered the place to be in the "Latin lunch counter" genre, (I think Jim Leff coined the term). -

i think that jagua = beach... -
No, the translator didn't recognize it as a word (I got "Castle of Jagua"), but a Google search turned up an actual "Castillo de Jagua" in Cuba...

oops- my ba- uh, mistake... i was thinkin' "playa"

NOOOOOOOO-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
You bastards!!
You know, some person who posted in this thread suggested they be reported. Perhaps that's what happened. If true, a pox on that person and may their children be born with three heads.
Okay... okay... okay. Deep breath, count to ten.
*exhales slowly*
The grill is clean, the congealed fat gone. This is like the destruction of the rainforest or stepping on that moss that grows above the tree line and takes like, a thousand years or something to grow one inch. It's a tragedy, people, but you have to face reality and DEAL with it.
What we need to be focusing on is... what did they do with the scrapings? It must have something like several thousands dollars in street value. They probably cut it with lard and are selling it outside the c-town as we speak. Anyone got a connection?
I'M JONESING HERE PEOPLE!! -
i asked a coworker from Columbia what she thought. She confirmed that it's Castle of "something". She was unfamiliar with Jagua. I suggested that it might be a form of jaguar, considering there's a big cat on the sign, but she didn't think so. Perhaps Jagua is the owner's last name and it's something along the lines of "Tom's Restaurant" or "House of Ping"?

You know, I really just might chop that shit up and snort it if I can get my hands on it. -

Is it me, or is this thread getting REALLY, REALLY bizarre? And a tad scary ...

Yeah, that was what we figured. A place name or family name.
They should just rename it "El Carneviento." -
**WHOA!** The vent is spotless! They even removed the soda can lodged in the corner! The mighty wind of meat does seem to have a different character now, but that could be entirely psychological.
In answer to Carnivore's comment about "ideas of reference," I'd be willing to bet that the vent cleaning is a result, directly or indirectly, of all the discussion on dailyheights. The vent clearly hadn't been cleaned for many years.
Who ever thought that a vent could generate so much excitement and controversy? Film at 11... -

I can't wait ! -
Don’t fret fellow PHers. The cleaning of El Carneviento is not the end of the world. It actually might be a good thing. Over the years my window fan has accumulated a layer of dust, pollution, pollen, etc. As an obsessive neat freak, I thought it was a good idea to clean the entire unit, inside and out. A cleaner fan blade and grill has increased the volume of air that my window fan can deliver. I imagine the same holds true for El Carneviento. El Carneviento has just been upgraded from tropical storm force winds to hurricane force winds. It might even be a category 5.

They could have at least enshrined the grease chunks and given me a place to pay my respects. OH THE FUCKING HUMANITY!!!

Good point! My sadness lessens... -

And I wouldn't have shared any of it either. Just me and a big fat jar of congealed meat juice. Dribbling and gibbering my way to meaty bliss. -
I can't stop thinking about the scene on the Simpsons where Homer is trying to make money buy selling grease and is outfoxed by some guys whose truck says ACNE GREASE COMPANY on it.
-
"That grease was Willie's nest egg!"
"My RETIREMENT GREASE!"

fear not, there's carneviento crown heights, check out the vent at la higienica, on the northwest corner of bedford and sterling. dripping with meaty greasy goodness. its one of the few places that actively tests my vegetarianism.

I guess "la higienica" is a misnomer?

So who won the haiku contest for the "Miss Congeality" title? This one was my favorite:

Can we nominate maybe the 4 top ones, then have a poll?
Right outta the Castillo

I nominate this piece of poetic jouissance.
Greasy meat chunks of pure love!
I think I just peed! -

As of 12 noon... there's a new can in El CV!! It's an unopened can of Goya pineapple soda.
Walking past, I couldn't help but slip into a fantastic reverie of the soda exploding in a glorious shower of artificial pineapple borne along on the misty zephyrs of the meat wind...
mmm... pineapple and ham... -
A couple times this weekend, i was stepping out of the Q station in the afternoon and noticed there was no MEAT WIND!!!
My sails floundered listlessly without benefit of aerosoled MEAT JUICE to fill them and lovingly propell me forward. I was beached. No pork fat lovin' to be found. I hope my nose was malfunctioning or I hit an off time for them.
A world without MEATY WIND JUICE collecting in my nosehairs...gah! Just shoot me. -
Despite the above, the meat wind blew for 8 more years. But, now, it is among the next to close....
Dec 18, 2013:
The mighty meat wind will soon RIP:

Not sure if there is an update about this already posted on another thread, but just spoke to the owner a few minutes ago and happily the restaurant is just moving a few doors down on Flatbush, apparently where the diner was. He expects the move to occur around May1-ish.
-
Yes, we started a new thread about it.
....however, this thread is classic enough that it shouldn't be lost.
The new location will likely have a proper ventilation system, which is kind of sad.
I wonder if they'd be willing to give the grease encrusted fan to the Prospect Heights Historical Society.
Howdy, Stranger!
