meeting young singles?
so i am twenty something. queer (bisexual, if you must) and more creative professional than young business professional. but in any case, where does a single gal like myself go around these parts to meet new (and single) people? seems like soda is a nice crowd, but i haven't been gutsy enough to go solo. plus, i'm not a big booze hound. any advice?

I'm queer, not single though. i'm a creative person as well. the only place for ladies is the metropolitan on wed nite in williamsburg. other options are caddyshack and the occasional queer dance party. are you new here?

Bar Sepia is Bi-friendly for all heteroflexible types...not necessarily a singles spot but I have spotted a single lesbian or two in there on more than one occassion.
CattyShack is supposed to be a super-cool place to go dancing. -

no man, out of "personals" sites, nerve's sweeps the whole spectrum of "coolness" (i can't think of a better word for it). You have the sexy types who read nerve, the same service is used on Onion.com's, and I think on Salon.com or something, so you get the hip and brainy too. one subscription gets you all of those.. or something.

IMHO:
Nerve is definitely worth a shot for dates (full disclosure: my brother just married the only woman he met on the site). Sepia is good in that it's probably the most laid-back and friendly spot in the neighborhood. Cattyshack is fun for dancing and hanging out on the deck - also a perfect place to go on Sunday nights to heckle The L-Word. Ripple has great music if you're into live dj's.
Also, not to be a total fruitcake but I always met a lot of new people when I was a member of the co-op. Queer folks especially. -

Agreed. That alternative was what attracted me to online dating in the first place. But for whatever reason my recent experience with both has been exactly the same: an endless supply of first dates; or the occasional, casual sexual hookup. Which means I'm back to the proverbial square one. Anyway... -

queer girl here, weighing in. cattyshack L-Word night is fun. nice crowd. and it seems a lot of folks turn out who are not "local," which has its plusses and minuses. the bar at beast on some nights can be teaming with women "on the team" and chocolate monkey does some homo events. the gym, maybe?
i've done WAY more than my share on nerve and planet out. meeting people online: yeah, you can screen for 'interesting/compatible' and bright, but not for crazy and unattractive. meeting people en vivo, the ones that make you go 'hubba-hubba' must then be screened for mental illness and intellectual challenge, which is harder (and less of a priority, it seems) once alcohol is involved. i'm starting to favor the latter, 'cause at least the process can be fun.
altho, truthfully, i've been taking alafairnadia's approach lately. misanthropy can be very sexy. and you get a lot of reading done. :?
