Dr. Orna Kolker- affiliated with NY Methodist
I have lived in NYC for 9 yrs and kept going back to m old Dr. in NJ simply b.c I loved her and was afraid to change. After seeing Dr. Kolker this past November I vow to keep going to her. She is so personable, knowledgable and put me right as ease, which is hard at the GYN -
I love my OB/GYN at Beth Israel in Union Square - Dr. Suzanne Frasca.
She is thorough in asking the right questions and answering all of my questions. And she is quick and efficient (but gentle) when your in that particularly vulnerable position.
She also makes you feel very comfortable in conversation. She is old enough that you are confident that she knows what she is doing but not so old that your talking with your grandmother about your sex life. From my age perspective at least (mid 20s)
I've recommended her to several friends and all have good reviews.
Good luck finding someone! -
Definitely Orna Kolker at Methodist. She is fantastic.

Anyone have feedback on Dr. Bush (no joke) at Methodist? -

I just waited on hold for 15 minutes to try to make an appointment before I gave up. That's really unacceptable and indicates to me that their practice is not well-run.

It can be really hard to get through some times, which is frustrating because, actually, their practice is increadably well-run. They see a lot of patients and move them through the office very efficiently. I went with their practice for my second pregnancy and was very happy with them. Dorothy Min did a great job delivering my daughter. My best friend called them with a crisis after her old OB/GYN turned out to be a flake and she needed a D&C after a miscarriage. They saw her the next day and arranged for the procedure within the week. I've had 2 other friends who have had 2 kids each with them and remain pleased.
What I'm saying is: I think the long hold time is sometimes just because of high volume. It's worth putting it on speaker and waiting or leaving a message and having them call you back. -
Does anyone have a phone number for Dr. Fuchs? I looked on the Methodist physician referral page and didn't find her listed (only a Miguel Fuchs in Cardiology). Thanks!

i think dr. fuchs # is 369-8180. i didn't dig up her card, though... i grabbed that # from PS Parents.

I feel your pain. You would think that this area had a better selection. I found a doctor on 8th Ave & Berkeley named Linda Sese. I liked her right away. She was quite pleasant and competent. A very polished, old school little Phillipina woman (I was curious because over the phone I couldn't figure out what nationality the name Sese was). She in fact called me herself with results of a lab test. (Little things matter to me) The waiting room is lovely too. I was also able to get an appointment in a very reasonable amount of time. I dunno, it just worked for me after my doctor in Manhattan. I assumed I'd get better treatment the closer I was to Madison Ave. Wrooong. My god, that office was so icky and her lab coat looked like an old dish rag. I kept going there because of my insurance plan and because I just got used to it; it was too hard to find another doctor. So glad to have found someone close to home. Poor Dr. Sese. When I first met her I must have scared her with my little attitude and all my expectations but I wanted to make sure I was going to get the kind of dignity any human being deserves when they are in stirrups! Good luck.
I was going to Dr. Sese, but stopped because I asked her to call me w/ lab results, good or bad, and she told me not to worry about it and never called, then it took about a month to get in touch with the office cause they never answer. -
Dr. Guirguis is good too (but male). I go to him and I've heard a lot of great things about him from other patients.

i disagree about some of these comments about dr fuchs. i waited 3 hours to see her...she spent a total of 2 min with me as a NEW patient with a documented problem and told me basically she'd remove my cyst/ovary in open surgery. i was shocked--she did not expain the situation nor answer my questions but rather took a position of "there was no way" anything else was possible and why don't we look at the surgery schedule. long story short, i went to another dr. who spent real time with me and answered all my questions and concerns, had minimally invasive surgery and i still have my ovary.

Subject: Downtown Women's Ob/Gyn
I second (third? fourth?) the recommendation for Dr. Audrey Buxbaum in Soho, but as the posters here have discovered, the office is run very slapdash. There is a woman there, in billing now, I think, who is one of the rudest individuals I have ever had to deal with. Her name is Millie and she is truly a sadistic bitch (while at the same time being from the South! so much for Southern manners.)
Another con is that they don't send reminders for annual checkups so you have to keep track yourself.
But, I've gone to Dr. B. for nearly 10 years and I like her a lot. I went to a number of the people along 8th Avenue here in the Slope but there was always an extraordinarily long wait, sometimes up to 3 hours. Over the years I went to Amico, Calame and Scorza (all men, but all decent fellows - now either deceased or retired)
I just don't think the doctors here in the Slope, with a few exceptions, are as professional as ones in Manhattan. At Downtown Women's I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes and it's righ near the subway so it was an easy on-easy off on my way to work. -
I adore Dr. Weinstock, 9 Pierrepont Street in the Heights. The phone is 718-852-5810. She delivered both of my kids now in their teens. It is a multi-doctor practice and you get to see everyone during your OB visits.
I believe there are now two other females plus two males in the practice that do OB, plus another male doctor that does only GYN.
I very seldom wait more than 10 minutes on my semi-annual visits. The phones are sometimes busy in the morning, but not out of control. -
Subject: Downtown women ob gyn poorly organized
The drs a nd nurses here are wonderful, compassionate and smart, but the office is completely disorganized and they do not return phone calls, forget to send out necessary paperwork, do not schedule surgeries properly and overlook insurance submissions. It is very SAD that this administrative failing means often one does not get proper care. You can wait on the phone for 15 minutes and sometimes, not have messages returned whether the messages are illness or appointment related.VeggieQueen wrote: [quote=Anonymous][quote=Anonymous]Dr. Audrey Buxbaum and the staff at Downtown Women are excellent, but based in lower Manhattan between Eddie Bauer and Armani.

i had a similar experience. after calling for hours on end and only getting voice mail, i left a message on two different occasions. no one ever called me back. -
Subject: DOWNTOWN OB GYN office staff
They do take care of their patients when they see them and communicate with them, the drs are good! However, it seems to me that their mean, rude and incompetent office staff really overshadow this. Also, not to be too cynical, but how much $ do they make when they get someone in for a procedure, then they seem to be on their toes. I just have had lots of billing problems with their office staff while ill.

Subject: Re: DOWNTOWN OB GYN office staff
I think that can work if you are waiting for an annual and it is not urgent, but if you have real health concerns, like abnormal tests, or need attendance when you are pregnant, or you are ill, you cannot depend on the administrative staff or the nurses, to call you back, and that is really unprofessional and shows a basic lack of respect for patients. I agree that this is too bad since the doctors are so nice and intelligent, like Buxbaum and Shih. Are they aware how mean and irresponsible their secretaries are?
