Settlers of Catan! — Brooklynian

Settlers of Catan!

daniel
edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
A few weeks ago I had asked if anyone here was interested in getting together some evening for a game of Settlers of Catan - I got a few positive responses, but had neglected to follow up on it. Here goes:

Is anyone interested in getting together next week - let's say Wednesday, although I am flexible - for a game of Settlers of Catan? Previously mentioned as potential venues was Soda, The Gate or the Tea Lounge.

Er. I'd play (if someone coached me) cause it's a board game and not universally banned as a 'freakshow' in my world. but I have no clue how to play, despite wikipedia's assistance, and would prefer Soda as a diehard proho'er who has issues with crossing flatbush.
  • We'll teach anyone who wants to play - the rules are simple and can be taught in just a few minutes. No experience necessary!

score! ok. wait, I'm out of town this weekend for some kind of evil forensic electronic blah blah thingy. otherwise, I'm around.
  • Is that, like, and RPG? If so I'll join in too!
  • This sounds fun, but I don't think I can do it that night. Hopefully next time!
  • For all who would like to play:

Does 8PM Wednesday @ Soda Bar work for everyone? It looks like it's going to be myself, my girlfriend Erin, alafairnadia and Isa (are there any area Nerds that might like to join us?). That's 4 players, the game can handle up to 6, and is good with between 3 and 6.

I'm sure your aware of this:

I think there's going to be an attempt at multiple games, so bring all that you want.
  • That works for me!
  • I'll see everyone there tonight, at 8PM. If you don't know how to play, don't worry - it's a quick and easy game to learn.

I can't play Settlers tonight because of a board meeting in my building, but I LOVE this game and have a bunch of people I play it with on the upper west side (we also have a D&D campaign going that we've been playing for over two years now -- yes, SterlingGuy is a MegaNerd).
  • never heard of this game 'til now, but it sounds cool! and i love board games.

i'm going to try to make it tonight if my husband doesn't chain me to the kitchen and demand a home cooked meal.

You might be interested in NerdNYC or the NYC Boardgames Meetup Group
  • I'm so sorry it ends up I can't make it. I have band practice. morganfelder will go in my wake.

Thanks, I just bookmarked those sites and will check them out when I get home tonight. I have already started warming up my D20, ready for orcs...!
  • tonight, right? I have pilates (sorry, I'm a yuppie in some ways) until 8 but should be at Soda around 8:30, should the Q function as expected. :)

I'm also planning to go to the Beast party -- anyone going to that?
  • Yes, tonight! See you there.

What happened? I came by at around 7:30 (right after dropping off my stuff when I got home from the airport) and I didn't see any DHers or anyone playing anything that resembled SOC. Am I just totally blind or did everyone flake out?
  • The sign says 8 pm.
  • D'Oh!

"And the worst part of all is... I never even learned to READ!"

    My b-d.
  • Damn! Carnivore, you're the only person who showed up. Erin and I got there just before 8, and stayed until 8:45. No one showed, so we left. Yourself and Isa are good people, everyone else - you suck!
  • This is pretty much sums up the entire History of Organizing Events over the Internet.

Bring that board game of yours next Weds. People will be showing up for that.
  • Well, to be fair, I think most people said they weren't coming until next week...

I'm still a little nervous about the whole walking up to people and asking "Dailyheights?" thing, though. I know it's been discussed to death, but I did a whole bunch of that on my honeymoon (after spending the year leading up to it on a very active message board) and got NO bites and a lot of people thinking I was insane, so...I guess maybe the board games will be a tip-off, though.

Bluedove, someday I would like to hear the story of what strangers you were approaching on your honeymoon and what you were asking. Maybe at happy hour next week?
  • I'll announce some identifying something or other prior to Weds. Usually Andy wears a "Where's the Beef?" button, but I'm not sure if he's going so we'll figure out something because it drives me crazy as well.

    You're on :)

It's really not that exciting of a story, though.

Maybe Andy can start selling DH bandanas (being careful to pick a color that isn't already claimed by a gang- green?) that we can all wear somewhere on our persons for easy ID at these events.
  • This sort of sucks because my band practice is now permanently on Wednesdays. Daniel can I make this up to you online?
