The likelihood of an attack by one of BAFN's dogs is as likely as anybody else's dogs on the crowded streets of PS. This thread will prove nothing as to the potential threat or the possible intention of BAFN. Furthermore we're talking about one instance. Several people have eluded to other situations but have not had the courage to say anything. The only fight that exists on this thread seems to be about an attitude change required of management. There has been no proof of abuse of animals by BAFN. The only abuse seems to be of the high minded "I love animals too so you better appreciate me!"Park Sloppers. BAFN's mission is to rescue animals. I wouldn't presume to be in the same class as them no matter how many foster cats or dogs I pretended to be taking care of.
You hit it RIGHT on the head, Modsquad. -

true the family that gets bit together stays together.

Laurie, I wrote And I would only get a cat from a shelter...either a large one (like the ASPCA/Bide-a-Wee or a local shelter). And I've been through the kitten stage (they are nuts!) - love kittens, but I'd adopt an older one next time (not old, just older).
My first cat was from a woman in my office whose cat gave birth. My second was from Bide-a-Wee and he was a young adult (and he gave me 14 years of absolute joy). My current cats are from a local rescue (Barbarathecatlady.org). I take offense at what you said...I said I would only adopt a cat from either a large shelter or a small rescue...never said I wouldn't adopt from BAFN - I wish you luck in your adoptions, and rescues but there are many local rescuers that do good work...my next generation of cats will be from one other than yours. -
Flexichick wrote: [quote=CourtneyBleier]Thats it! Do you guys seriously not realize that your obnoxious comments are making it worse??? Telling my aunt she needs anger management and shit?? You are all so patronizing, its like you're saying this stupid crap HOPING she would respond in anger, JUST so u can say 'mission complete, laurie is crazy and blah blah blah, she's going to get sued and shut down' !!! Shut up!! If you're all adults, then why the hell are you acting like children? Grow up! It's called defense. You say something rude, we respond rude, and now we're wrong? Get over yourselves, this is so stupid.
Now you're gonna tell me i need anger management, right? haha
Maybe you can get a family discount.

Please don't assume that just because you didn't see it in this thread then the moderators haven't done anything. Most of the time we send a private message to people who engage in name-calling. -
I suggested to lock this thread and I see it's gotten worse since then.
Hate to continue but how do they know his bag of groceries was full of food and meat and was the meat cooked? It's a rhetorical question. The a hole comment reinforces my decision never to adopt another animal from them again. -
Laurie, are you aware that when you go to adoptions on the ASPCA site, one of the resources they give for local shelters is yours - wonder how they'd feel if they knew you were bad mouthing them.
I don't think the way to promote yourself is to put other agencies down.
Honestly, I don't know what happened with the guy and the dog - but instead of you calmly giving your side of the story (it's possible you told the guy not to go near the dog with the hot food as it was a puppy and puppies jump) you began ranting and raving. I'm sure BAFN does good work - but there are so many other rescuers around (and unfortunately so many dogs and cats that need homes) I see no reason to ever adopt from you -

Where did she bad mouth the ASPCA? According to their own website, they adopted out over 2730 animals in 2007.In 2007, the ASPCA placed over 2,730 animals into loving homes.

I'm Nepethean's wife and was with him when the incident occured. I just want to restore some truth about what happened. As a matter of fact, you can also read his post at the beginning of the thread. We were walking down the street when the dog bit my husband. I was just behind him. We never stopped to talk with these people beforehand and were never warned to go away. This is pure fabrication. At Laurie's rate of fantasy embellishment, my husband will soon be the one who bit the dog!

Wow, on that note, can we all just call it quits before BAFN screws themselves over any more? -

As I walked by last Monday (Columbus Day), their pit bull lunged at me and bit my thigh. Their first response was suggesting it was my fault because I had a bag of groceries in my arm. They also said that was their sweetest dog. They delayed getting the person in charge (who was across the street), hoping I would just walk away. After I persisted they finally brought over the boss. She offered NO apology whatsoever, but tried to get me to sign a medical waiver! WTF??
I love dogs as much as the next guy. But I was astonished how these people were more concerned about themselves than my fang scarred ass! Keep your children an extra leash-length away from these dogs when you walk by!
as a volunteer at the brooklyn animal foster network i find this very hard to believe, first off i know the dog you are talking about and where the hell did you get the idea that the dog is a pit maybe out of your fang scarred ass becuse the dog is a sheperd mix and it is your fault because im sure they warned u about busters behavior and im very sure that they did in fact appoligize for busters actions and i know for a fact they did not ask u to sign a medical waiver because we dont carry those with us the dog lived in a kennal for most his life you coming up to him with a bag of food does not help him and also you posting about your "attack" is so childish and shows what kind of person you are you are a close minded person that cares more about a pair of jeans rather than a dogs life -
if the dog has behavioral issues, he should be shown by appointment, or in an environment where he will be more stable and comfortable.
He does not belong on a crowded street with people passing by. BAFN is lucky that this wasn't worse ....I sense a lawsuit waiting to happen -
Oh sweet Jeebus.

his only behavioral issue is he wants attention and i dont know about you but most dogs i know want attention and by having him out there he is learning how to deal with people he has shown great improvment -
What... did he previously devour babies? And now he just eats denim jeans?
-
wow so close minded no he would bark alot and would be scared of people you people love to jump on anything that has to do with a pitbull bite well the dog is not a pitbull
-
I honestly don't care whether he's a pitbull or not. I like dogs, so long as they don't try to eat me.
If that makes me narrow minded, so be it. -
Chiming in again.
@bfan animal handler: Simply put, it is not my responsibility, nor anyone else's, to be a chew toy for your rescues while they "learn how to deal with people." On the contrary, it is YOUR responsibility to keep them off the street until they *know* how to deal with people.
@ modsquad: This has absolutely nothing to do with anyone accusing BAFN of abusing animals -- it has to do with a seeming (scratch that, it's not "seeming" at all, but rather real) reckless disregard for the welfare of the residents of Park Slope by the BAFN.
Is that clear enough for you all to understand the issues here? -
Flexichick wrote: if the dog has behavioral issues, he should be shown by appointment, or in an environment where he will be more stable and comfortable.
just for the record, we did not have the dog out all day. We knew he's not the best with strangers, so he had been sitting in Laurie's car all day until i had gotten there. The moment i got there we took him out, purely just to let him out for a little. Thats why immedietly after the "attack" we put him back in the car. We did not have him out all day, we just felt bad that he was couped up in the car. So enough with the 'you shouldn't show a dog that cant behave appropriately in public' comments. But we still have to try and find him a home...can't leave him out and keep in the car all day. Now that's just cruel.
He does not belong on a crowded street with people passing by. BAFN is lucky that this wasn't worse ....I sense a lawsuit waiting to happen -
and thank you, bafn animal handler.
Obviously in order to get the dog ready for a more suitable environment, we have to slowly get him used to it. Can't just throw him in the fire, otherwise yes, it could have been a lot worse. -
So , yeah , tomorrow is supposed to be like mostly sunny and 52 degrees.
Nice weather nice weather..... :sunny: :flower: -

if i have said this ten times already, it bears repeating: coming onto this forum and acting like petulant imbeciles (sorry, mods, is that a bad name?) only serves to make you look worse. you are doing nothing short of making even more people think you're incapable.
and sweet jeebus is right: learn some grammar, punctuation, and spelling. -
I never really knew who the BAFN was before this thread. Of course, I've seen them around along with other rescue groups but never really looked further than the tip jar and the cute animals. After reading BAFN's responses and the contempt they have for Park Slope...I think somewhere above laurie said "forget these park sloppers [sic]," I will certainly take notice...and donate my money elsewhere.
I think someone also said that BAFN should take a deep breath and take a look at their responses. I think you should because you are coming off as crazy and angry. The fact that you can't see this part of yourself makes me question your judgment and really makes me want to avoid you. -
Where did she badmouth the ASPCA
Did you know how many animals a year the ASPCA takes in a year? 20,000? 10,000? No, they take in 2700 dogs and cats a year!
Laurie says mostly puppies,kittens...yet I went on their website just to see what they had and there were older cats. And when I did adopt a cat from Bide-a-Wee, they didn't have a single kitten available.
They take in puppys, kittens for the most part. Very rarely older, seniors or neglected. Most of their animals are Humane Law Enforcement Cruelty cases where the animal is kept until the trial is over.
The ASPCA, North Shore and Bide-a-way are sitting on collectivley 1 billion dollars in donated money. They dont need this forums donation. Donate to Animal Haven, Kennsington Kittys and Sean Casey. They need you money more.
All I was saying is that I don't like when people/businesses try to defend themselves while putting others down. -
