Thanks to your gentrification, you have fvcked up this neighborhood royally! I’ve been hear for 25 years and it was a great place to live before you people. Your all protesting these ugly ass modern 200 story condos, the franchise stores you so hate: target, f'n baby gap, starbucks.. there all hear because of you. So STFU!! your getting what you deserve jackasses. Now this has become a transient neighborhood full of annoying mochafrapachino sipping, phohawk hair cut wearing, trendy fake bar hoping, toy dog walking while listening to folk music on you i-pod, scumbags. I cant even find parking on my goddamn block on a Saturday afternoon thanks to your friggen Volvos and Subaru Outback’s.. and some of you liberal basterds even have SUV's what a joke! Thanks for sucking the true personality of this neighborhood dry ,which by the way,was created by the people who lived hear for years. Now this place is full of midwesterners and godknows whear else, trying too hard to be too cool. go back to Kansas!
Now i cant even afford to live in the fvcking neighborhood that i grew up in!! How sad is this! Because im not a paper pushing stockbroker who makes over 100k a year. Fvck off!! I know you jerks will sleep well because despite all your fake concerns for the environment and neighborhood, you really don’t care who you step on in the end.

  • work harder you lazy slacker :p. dont blame others for youre situation in life. its always easier to blame others. instead of seeing what am i doing wrong.
  • Whoa whoa whoa.
It's called New York City man.
And before you get pissed, I am a native New Yorker. And as a result have studied the history of this city, which is built on the diverse people who have migrated here from all points around the globe.
Granted you are pointing out yuppies and a slew of other people, but you just sound elitist. Chill.
Did you want to build a fence around your beloved Slope?
Do a background check on everyone "applying" to move here?
Have you ever lived anywhere else?
    Seen how other people live?
New York is a city. People move here and live. Some stay. Some move away again.
It's an experience for some. They are living their lives.
So maybe be yourself and dont shop at those places.
    And the parking space!!??
When I was 4 driving around trying to visit my grandmother, we circled for hours!! This is new to you? And it's because of the people who moved here?
Whew, this has happened in every neighborhood. Do your research.
Times change. Either change with it, or move.
Or else you are just going to be pissed all the time.

This city is not a private club.
Stop trying to be the boss.

I mean that all in a nice way, of course. Like some New Yorkers I know.
  • the guy sounds like a moron, why even bother with him?
  • The regularly scheduled anger management class for long-term Park Slope residents will be held this Tues at Starbucks where mochafrapachinos will be served free of charge.
  • I can't believe you guys are taking the bait from this troll.

I also grew up in park slope and I agree with what you say. I realized I hate these people when sitting in at my block association meeting they suggested instead of having activities for the children we have a dog parade. ( what morons! )

Oh dear. I do go to trendy bars and have a toy dog and drink pretentious coffee but I am not from Kansas and I don't drive an SUV, so I guess I'm ok after all. Ha ha

Dogs are the new children so this makes perfect sense to me. I think I'll organize a dog parade on my block now that you mention it.
  • L & D - I'll join you for that dog-do - My wife refers to our oldest Peke as her first born  (His name is Che too)
  • do all the dogs get to wear tiaras?
  • Well-if you really are an old timer and not just a troll-then you should have bought a place years ago when prices were still good-then you would be living large in an apartment worth mucho mucho more than what you paid for it like smart old timers did :D

Oh-as for the dog parade-I have a dog and children-can my kid walk my dog in the parade-the doggie would love a tiara!
  • The dogs wear tiaras and feather boas. The children can participate, but only if they dress up as pugs and pitbulls. :D
  • **Note: the proper term for these people is now Grups.

  • Subject: um... wait a minute here...

I have to say, as someone who's only been in Park Slope for 5 years and yet who is also annoyed at the high rents and displacement of long-time residents, I am shocked at the attitude of people on this board. Yes, things change but some things have to remain the same. The charm of this area once it is 'white-washed' is not so great. I see a big difference between the newbies and the old-timers. I like having the 'old-timers' around. It adds a lot of flavor. I don't know who the people are responding to this person's post but I don't think people should be saying 'work hard' ... 'why didn't you buy...?' those are such callous attitudes with also a sense of entitlement which I'm not sure why you have. It's, I'm sorry to say, sort of obnoxious. It's like the popular kids in high school ganging up on the person you perceive to be the geeky guy.
  • I never read this incredibly dumbed-down rag, but I have to admit I loved this article.

BTW - real men arm-carry their kids, only wimps wear Baby Bjorns!
  • Subject: Re: um... wait a minute here...

...deleted...I don't feel like arguing anymore.
  • Subject: "logic..."

well I understand that my "logic" isn't perfect or suited to your likes... I don't think a lot of what plays into this IS logical. Your way of thinking doesn't have much to do with logic either. I wasn't thinking of what I was writing as "logic" but moreso thoughts and feelings on a situation that I have witnessed up close.

however... I agree with you that it's capitalism that is creating this system and way of thinking.

Greed seems to trump any sort of kindness or loyalty ...

    and that's that.

    real estate is god.

I stand by my original premise of the bullies picking on the geeky kid.

People typically don't change their way of thinking until something happens that makes them reconsider their life style, their life, etc. If this also doesn't resonate with you, don't worry about it.

I'm a newbie to PS and I think I added something to the neighborhood. Doesn't mean I think 2000 of me should replace people who have lived here their whole lives There has to be balance and the 'system' is mostly not set up for that. So yes it's basically capitalism.
  • it's also population growth. if you don't like gentrification, support birth control.

but i understand the frustration. i don't like the hoards of people who've poured into my hometown much either. i don't like that the woods and fields i used to drive by (and thought of as belonging, at least a little bit, to me) have been ripped up in favor of developments named after whatever farm used to be there or whatever stream is in a concrete culvert now.

Eh-don't think my kid would go for dressing like a pug or pitbull-maybe a cheetah-would that work? LOL
  • any city or neighborhood that doesnt change with the times usually starts to decay and die out. thanks to all these new comers. park slope blossom and renewal itself. you have alot more stores and shops now days. then before.
  • Das kapital would have much more of a hit it started with: “Thanks to your gentrification, you have fvcked up this neighborhood royally! I’ve been hear for 25 years and it was a great place to live before you people.”

As a general rule addressing a group as “you people” doesn’t win hearts and minds.

Sounds like the photo shoot for the DailySlope calendar . . .
    :D

    note to cat:
people are responding to a troll. think about it.
there's some variety among the posters here - old and new to the neighborhood. lots of geeks too, by my count
    :D

What a great quote...so true it really should be a bumper sticker! I cant understand why more people dont get this
  • Old timer here-waves...bows...19 years in this neighborhood..

    well . . .
gentrification is mostly done by the college educated, right?
a college education is an excellent family planning strategy . . .

A women's educational level is the best predictor of how many children she will have, according to a new study from the National Center for Health Statistics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The study, based on an analysis of 1994 birth certificates, found a direct relationship between years of education and birth rates, with the highest birth rates among women with the lowest educational attainment.
So it might be fun for your bumpersticker, but doesn't really get you anywhere thinking about the lack of decent affordable housing
